My friend has been on Prozac for years and is very happy with the results.
Here's the mother coming out in me now ... are ya ready ...
If indeed you have a chemical imbalance in your brain that is causing your difficulties ... antidepressants will work. Don't panic if it seems to take a long time and don't worry if the first one doesn't seem right. There are lots to choose from.
Take them exactly as the doctor told you and stick with it.
Now about the weight gain ... imagine that you feel calmer all the time, imagine that you can go from one task to the other like most folks do, imagine that you can need to do something, plan it and go do it.
Now imagine how that will effect your weight loss journey. Logical planning of food and exercise. The ability to calmly, rationally intertwine that with the rest of your life.
If Prozac is the best medication for you ... in six weeks you'll wonder why you never tried it before.

Thank you both! I did forget to take it this morning. I have to get used to it. I 'll have to keep some extra ones in my purse. I really hope this works for me.

A close friend is on it, in fact she's been on it for 16 years and loves it. At times she tried to get off of it and always hit bottom again. She has neither lost or gained on it. She is at an ideal weight, hope this helps

Thumbs up Prozac

Hi,

First of all I have to tell you that your before and after pics are such an inspiration to me. You are a beautiful woman, and were beautiful even before you lost weight. You must feel so much better now.

So, the Prozac. I've been taking it for years. I take the cheap version, Fluoxetine. If I remember correctly it upset my stomach a little for the first week or so but not too badly. I could feel it kick in in about 3 weeks and what a difference! I can focus, keep things in perspective, and feel confident about what I have achieved and can achieve. Public speaking still isn't my forte', though I feel perfectly comfortable in a classroom or speaking to a group of parents, but put me upon the stage with a mike and I'm still really fearful. I could never be the school principal.

It's been wonderful for me. I didn't gain any weight that I wouldn't have gained anyway. You are going to feel so much better!

Good luck. Oh one more thing. If you take the Fluoxetine version it is free. I'm not sure why, but I haven't paid a dime for my prescription in over a year.

Hey Debbie, its great to hear Fluoxetine is working well for you, yes they say it takes time for it to kick in.... some folks feel it right away and others don't. We're all different. I used to work for a Generic pharmaceutical company who made Fluoxeting and I can tell you this......Fluoxetine is the generic name (which is actually the active raw ingredient in prozac) so you are not getting a cheapo version, you are actually getting the real stuff, just not the Brand name (ya ever hear you are paying for the name?) so don't worry, you got the real stuff

I am thinking of going back to my doc and requesting it..... I'm feeling my SAD really early this year and I know I'll need early treatment.

Hugs to you all
