Depression and Weight IssuesHave you been diagnosed with depression, are possibly on depression medication, and find it affects your weight loss efforts? Post here for support!
I'm feeling anxiety about starting my anxiety meds. What can I expect? Will I feel like a different person? Are there serious side effects that I should watch for? Any advice would be SO helpful.
Hi Cassie. While I did not have a good experience with Zoloft, I just wanted to wish you luck. Everyone is very different in regards to side effects. Mine were, extreme fatigue, excessive sweating, sleepiness, and I just stopped caring about things, almost numb like.
I'm sure there are others who can fill you in on their experiences. Just read up on your medications and go with what feels right to you. Remember there are many different ones out there and you don't have to stick with just one. That's a relief to me! lol
Best of luck and be sure and let us know how you do.
I've been taking zoloft for awhile now and I'm fine with it. I feel better, and there aren't so many side effects. These drugs act differently with different people, though, so you won't know if it works for you until you try it.
Hi Cassie, I was on Zoloft for about 6 months. It worked very well for my depression, but my boyfriend hated it. It completely killed my sex drive, I mean completely, I couldn't even think about it. But like I said, it did work very well for the depression. I hope it works for you!
I was on Zoloft after my DD was born, I had to switch because I was having aweful thoughts... I really felt horrible on it. But you have to go into this like it will work for you, and if you have side effects, just call your doctor.
I was just placed on Paxil, does anyone here have any experience with it? I certainly hope it doesn't kill my sex drive anymore than my b-control already has Isn't odd that certain b-control will decrease your sex drive, maybe that's how it'll reduce the chances of becoming pregnant!! I did try Zoloft a few years ago, I didn't really have any side effects other than drowsiness but they went away after about a month... Good Luck :O)
I use Zoloft years ago and it was awesome. I was a bit sleepy for awhile but other than that, it was certainly better than being depressed. I take Citalopram (Celexa) now and nobody better ever try to take it away from me!
hi
I was on zoloft for years.. and thank god for it. I took my anxiety and my depression away. I went off of it and stayed off for years, but my anxiety came back and my depression worse. I went back on it and now i'm weaning off again....
The good it did~made me happy!, gave me drive to go back to school, took away my depression and ALL of my anxiety. Made me more outgoing and I didn't "sweat the small stuff"
The bad~ took away my sex drive for a long time, but it did come back while taking it, I did gain some weight on it, but I think because I was so happy I ate more. I had dry mouth very bad, had to nap in the late afternoon. Felt slightly dizzy on it at times, not all the time... If I had to rate zoloft I would rate it a 9 out of ten... good luck!
Hey there! My Dr switched me from prozac to zoloft maybe 4 weeks ago because it has an anorexic affect. It seems to be doing great so far! Good luck Laura
I was put on Zoloft, first at the lowest dosage, then I was having problems, and then they put me on the second lowest dosage... (25-50 then, after that 100)...
Anyway, every time they ended up switching me, I had started to have really bad thoughts that weren't there before. I would flip flop between being really numb but content to manicy, to fighting with everyone.
After a week on the 100mg, I decided that dealing with my depression can be possible with exercise... so I started doing that and weaned myself (note: I was wrong with this, don't try messing with your meds yourself, especially ssri's) off zoloft, and I've been clean of it for 7 months now.
Boy I went crazy when I ran out one time though. People thought I was batty, and I think I was. Three days without it just about killed me.
There's research about SSRI's leading to suicide - seemingly normal people just off themselves, and it's linked to these types of drugs. http://www.biopsychiatry.com/bigphar...-suicides.html
There's some information on it, it debates both sides.
I am on zoloft currently, I was changed from Lexapro to Zoloft in January, it is working great for me, I noticed that I actually lost a little weight originally, and it helps a great deal in controlling my eating.
Hi Again Cassie,
I know you responded to my post last week and we had both mentioned Zoloft. I felt really sick the first few times I took it, stomach cramps, headache, dizziness etc. That went away though. It had a very mild positive effect on my depression but it didn't help with my social anxiety disorder at all. Once my doctor upped my dosage from 50 to 100mg I started having really negetive effects: felt "numb" and had "crazy" thoughts. It sort of made me feel like I was losing my mind. I've recently switched to Effexor and it has helped me so much. I feel alive again and have actually felt like going out in public, socializing, and my sex drive has returned.
These darn drugs, the work different for everybody. My husband is on Zoloft and it's been successful for him. I take it and I'm a basketcase.
My best advice is give it the prescribed amount of time your doctor says it should take to be effective but don't be afraid to say it's not helping you if it isn't. If you start having really negetive effects like "crazy thoughts" etc...tell your doc right away! If it works stay with it and take it consistantly...no meds work if you don't take them as you should. If it doesn't don't be afraid to try something else, I'm sure glad I did. And my best advice that I just practiced myself is if you don't feel comfortable with your doctor or feel like they're not understanding or not listening to you...FIND ANOTHER ONE! Holy cow it's made such a difference having a doctor I'm comfortable with and who really listens.
You were the first person who responded to my post the first time I ventured in to the chick zone here. And it was comforting to hear from someone else with social anxiety disorder. It's such a hard disorder to deal with especially since going to get help means you have to fight against the fear of going out in the first place. I really hope you find something that works and I'd really like to talk to you again. Good luck chicky!
