going to the psych today

  • I havent been on meds for a few months. I felt I could handle life without them. I am finding out otherwise

I have been on so many meds I dont even know what to tell him today. I would really like to start meds again but am afraid I will put yet more weight on. Is there any meds that DONT make you gain weight?
  • Lori I wish I could help you. I didn't have any problems with Welbutrin (which is suposed to help curb your appetite) and I didn't have any problems on Prozac (which also helped me curb my appetite, more than welbutrin).

Tell your doctor exactly what you said in your post... you've been thru it all.

Good luck sweetie and please let us know what happened.

    Hugs & Kisses
  • I don't think there's any way to know what will cause weight gain until you start it. I'm on Welbutrin and haven't gained any weight. Before that I was on Effexor and didn't gain weight. Before that I was on Cymbalta and gained something like ten pounds in two weeks; my appetite was off the charts. On the other hand, my mother took Cymbalta and lost weight, because it curbed her appetite.

    Good luck.

  • Hello. I take Zoloft and Wellbutrin and it didn't make me gain any weight.
  • I went and he put me on prozac and seroquel. I am bipolar so he thinks this med combination will help me. We will see. I was on prozac years ago and they worked really well for me. I am hoping they work again.
    Thanks for the input ladies.
  • The Seroquel will make you very drowsy, so take it before bed, and don't drive. My best friend is bi-polar and she has had some problems with the "dopey" effects that it has. But I am on Prozac and it saved my life...so, good luck to you!
  • I'm so glad you went. Good luck with the medications, you should do well

    Hugs !!
  • I am on Trileptal and Effexor for bi-polar disorder and I don't know about the Seroquel, but if it's said to make you drowsy, take it before bed, as you likely already know!
The Trileptal totally makes me LOOOOOPY. I take it about half an hour before I'd like to be asleep. It's wonderful, cause I don't think I've ever NOT had trouble falling asleep before I've been on this, and I sleep very well, though not like in a stupor.

I am glad that you went to the Dr. and that you are medicated again.

I really think, as another bi-polar person, that at the VERY least, a mood stabilizer is essential for living your life happily and productively. The anti-d, perhaps you will be able to leave off of, eventually, but the mood stabilizer, from everything I know, is definately the most important part of managing bi-polar disorder.

I hope this works out well for you, Lori!

  • good luck lorenzo. hope it all works out for you
  • rachel - well done for getting under 190 way to go!!
  • Lorenzo, thanks for sharing. I am new here but just posted that I too have diagnosis of bipolar. please feel free to email me direct and maybe we can be support buddies. I hate this dx and what it did to my career. I too was tried on various things and yes i do think they contributed to increased appetite and weight gain (zyprexa, depakote). You lucked out with what you got....ha ha.
