Default Question about Depression Med Side affects

Hi, oh wow I just found this site and their are actually people out there like me !! I mean thats not good, but .... well you know.
Anyhow, I am wondering if any women have had the same trouble as I with Depression Med. I went on Zoloft to treat my Dep. and to treat anxiety. It helped ! And was great untill, oh gosh, I tried to have sex. I had the urge but couldn't you know, get there, (the O word). Anyways it didn't stop after a month, has anybody had this happen? NOT cool. Anyways my Doc switched me to Celexa and Welbutrin, but that didn't help either. So I just plain quit for a while, but the anxiety was too much so I went back, and she put me on Kolonopin, and its great for anxiety, wonderful, but it's not made for depression, and as the weeks go by, well you know, I just don't want to get out of bed, and if I do, I just, well you guys know how it is right?
OK, I'm sorry for writing so much, I guess what I'm asking is, is there anybody out there who went on Zoloft and had sexual side affects, and then found something else (for depression) that worked with no side effects?
Thank you for reading, I hope we can all better,
Lindystar

Lindy, WELCOME !!!

Did you ask your doctor about the dosage your taking and maybe its to high. Some times keeping the same meds but just lowering it a tad may help.

I was on Zoloft years ago and had bad bad side effects, so I switched to welbutrin. It was much better for me.

As far as sexual side effects, welbutrin never seemed to be a problem for me.

It might take a few times before the doc can get the right combo to work for you. Hang in there.

Thank You, No we never messed with any dose changing, we were just always switching to something different. I will definetly ask my doctor. Oh!! And I apologize to everyone for posting this here, I am trying to lose weight, but my problem didn't really have anything to do with that, so I'm sorry, I will try to post in the right place from now on. Thankyou, Lindystar

please do post lindy! there is another thread on depression and weight loss and meds so keep looking through them

i have depression and anxiety and i am on both klonopin and celexa so maybe your doc could put you on a combo? i don't take the klonopin every day as it is too sedating. i have severe anxiety and long term depression (8 or 9 years almost without break)

my sexual side effects was complete lack of arousal. i never got to the big O as I lost complete interest in even trying. I didn't have the 'urge' at all. But loss of desire is a common side effect of both anti depressants, anti anxiety meds and depression itself. also are you on the pill? contraceptives can dampen sexual desire too. ditto anxiety.

just be patient and experiment. also have you changed your diet or exercise in the last few months? ie is medication the only change or have their been other lifestyle changes

you may also like to consider going to a specialist i.e. a psychiatrist as they sometimes have more specialised knowledge of meds and side effects that your GP

Default HI you are in the right place

Hi,
Unfortunately I don't have the sex drive I want either. Still I would rather be sane and happy then worry about the sex issue so much. I feel bad for my husband and I have to work at it but he too would rather me be happy. I know that is not the answers you want but sometimes you need to put yourself back together first and worry about the other aspects later.
Post here anytime you are in the correct place.

Hi, Sweet_Pea, Gosh, I didn't know that the pill does that as well, AHHH, geez its supposed to make "that" less stressful, not more! I think that my doctor and I need to have a long conversation and get somethings worked out. OH, about the Klonopin, it never sedates me like you were saying but I only take a half of a 0.5mg pill twice a day. It really helps me, and I never feel anything but better. Maybe you could take a smaller dose, and get the same resluts. : )
GG wow, that is wonderful that you have the support of your husband in that way. I don't think my boyfriend and I would be able to stay together if I could never. . . But I think maybe you are right, maybe I should concentrate on getting ME together. We will see, thank you all, Lindystar

Red face

yes it;s always good to chat to the doc and know what's going on. i'll give you another site to explore too. go to remedyfind.com and check out the different sections on depression etc and it will also have a description of each med or you can google them. the more you can learn the better

i only take 0.5mg but it is highly sedating for me. you have to match meds to an individuals biochemistry so what works one way for you can work differently for other people.

i agree worry about getting YOU together and sane and happy first!

Oh, crap! I just started a new thread about my sexual issues while on Lexapro. I didn't realize this thread was about the same thing--sorry!

My problem, though, as stated in the other thread, is just the opposite of yours--I want it all the time!

I think it must have something to do with the tension/stress being removed from my brain?

I take 10 mg. Lexapro.

On prozac here, and have no drive whatsoever. I wonder why these drugs do this? They have so many side effects, it frightens me, but what is the alternate?
I am, I guess, treatment resistant for over 20 years of depression here. It has been a very hard life. I do have my good times/sometimes days/sometimes weeks/even months, but for the most part I remain depressed. I have a psychiatrist and I have tried many drugs ... have lost all hope. I wish I were closer to God than I am. I used to be and prayer used to help me get through the days.
Am I the only person in the world who has major depression/severe and anxiety who doesn't respond all that well to antidepressants. I take Ativan,
It helps. I also am on neurontin for my nerves and for sleep and it helps. So they have the anxiety down, but not the depression.
Thanks for reading. Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced any of this or can relate to what I am saying.
