Wink ThanksGiving Chat - Wednesday Nov 24th - Sunday Nov 28th

Good Morning,

I figured I'd make one thread to cover the holiday weekend since alot of you will be traveling and/or busy cooking.

I am home today and couldn't be happier.

Yesterday I took my dog Susie to the vet for an operation. She has many tumors that had to be removed and she did very well, I hate when they have to go and sit there all day and be so scared by themselves. But when the doctor called to tell us she was out of surgery and recovering well, my heart just jumped for joy. She is part of our family and we love her so much. The bill was suposed to be over $1,000 (this also included them cleaning her teeth) but the doctor said that the tumors weren't that bad and he only charged us $800.00. Its nice to know they are caring and honest. So she is home with lots of bandages all over her feet and when she walks its kinda cute b/c she tries to kick them off with every step lol.

Today is cooking and cleaning for tomorrow. The weather is weird, its going to be 60 degrees and we are getting wicked thunder storms later this afternoon.... ITS THANKSGIVING????? normally its like 30 degrees lol. But psssssst........ I like the warmer weather

Whats everyone up to today ?

If I don't see you tomorrow

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!!

Default Morning

When is thanksgiving? It seems like we have been talking about it for days already.

Just a regular Wednesday here. I am going on a field trip with grade 1 to the museum. I love being able to spend time at school with dd6. Tomorrow is a teddy bear picnic and I can only come if I bring a teddy.

I have to get busy with my course work. I have dd's 13th birthday party on the weekend of the 11th.......I think I will cook a turkery dinner. The pizza thing gets old.....we are gonna have our decorations up so it will add to the mood. I think the girls will get a kick out of it. There are nine girls coming. I will have to see what dd12 thinks about the idea.

Yesterday was such a productive day. I was beating myself up for being so disorganized as I couldn't find any of the papers we needed for passports and was upset about dd12's eating habits.....so I had alot of "upset" energy so I cleaned and organized and sorted and went to town. So I dug in and cleaned and sorted and meal planned. It is gonna to take a bit of putting up with the whineing but I am determined to feed these kids healthier foods and less snacks. It was getting so bad that dd12 was coming home at 3 pm......starving as she never ate much breakfast or lunch so she would eat from 3-11 pm.........I didn't realize how much she was helping herself. Sooooooooooo without making a huge issue about food I am trying to make some healthier choices .....this morning I made whole wheat toast, soft boiled egg and ff fruit yogurt with a glass of milk for her instead of her usual bite out of an apple. It is gonna be one day at a time but I am determined.

I am going to lay off school and only work nights for the next few months and try to really get this family back on track.

Have a great long weekend everyone.

I'll check back later

Eliz

Hey Gang!

Hey Leenie - you are so right - the weather is crazy. It's been raining a lot here. Yesterday morning it was 70 when we got up, this morning it is 60, and tomorrow it will be 40 in the morning with a high of 60 - that will be really nice for us bec it has been feeling like June and July for us down here in the humid south.

So glad your dog is ok and that you are home today! wooooooohoooooo (but I'm at work). I left the house at 6 this morning to go to Super Walmart before work. I don't want to have to stand in line all night after work and thought of a few things I needed (of course).

Cin - thanks for the explanation on the turkey and ham. And yes, I did follow ya.

April - so glad to hear you are feeling better and doing great on WW too!

and hey - about the grilled cheese selling for $28,000 - I must be in the wrong business - I could be making a fortune! LOL I make great grilled cheese sandwiches - well I don't guess any of them ever had a face on them - but still - they sure taste good - of course - they could have had a face on them and nobody would have noticed bec they chomp 'em down as soon as they are made - no time to look for pictures.

ok - I gotta get busy - lots to do here.

And tomorrow - I'm not posting on the daily food log - bec I'm gonna eat what I want - I'm not gonna go overboard - not large portions - but if I want a bite of something - well I'm having a bite - but I'm not writing any of it down.

What is everybody else's plan for eating tomorrow? we are having lunch and supper - never done that before - should be interesting - but we will have fried turkey at both and I LOVE FRIED TURKEY and mashed potatoes and cornbread dressing! YUM!

Hey Liz - Thanksgiving is tomorrow! and yep, we have been talking about it for awhile now huh. Glad you are taking a little time off from school. You sure are busy!

ok - I'm outta here - hope everybody has a Blessed & Happy Thanksgiving!

hugs,
cathy

Default Hi Ladies!

We're staying home for Thanksgiving this year-just the 3 of us. My husband is frying a turkey (I wanted to roast the bird, but I was outvoted ). I'm going to enjoy my dinner, but keep it simple. The one real "splurge" will be my homemade apple pie-just a sliver

My doctor wants me to stay on the Lexapro for awhile, so I'm keeping with it. I had a busy day yesterday-a new cast , blood work done; shopping at Wally World (not just shopping-a social event ) and I did o.k. . The doctor also gave me a very low dose of Xanax in case I need it-so far so good . P.S. on the cast: My ortho dr. is still planning on putting me in a walking cast at the first of the year. I'm looking forward to it!

Our son is still having some adjustment problems . He's doing better, but the pull of his old life is still strong. Please keep all of us in your prayers.

Leenie: Enjoy your day off! I'm glad your dog is doing well.

Cathy: Boy, y'all have been getting SLAMMED with bad weather . The storms are heading this way now , but it's not supposed to be that bad. The main thing is that once the bad weather is cleared, it's going to be COLD.

Liz: Sometimes we in the US forget that the rest of the world doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of November I didn't even realize until fairly recently that Canada has its own Thanksgiving Day (our "Columbus Day")-and I lived right next door (in Maine) for years

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now. Spending more time with your family is a wonderful idea-enjoy!

April: Seems like you've found what works for you. Glad to hear you're
feeling so much better-and congrats on your weight loss

Tippy: Enjoy your dinner out (no dishes! )

CIN: Free turkey & ham-cool

I'll be around this weekend-but to all that will be away.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Hi Ladies
Cin! thats amazing I love free meaT!
Confession Time
I have been out of control with food for 2 weeks now evenwhen i have planned out my day and eaten what I'm supposed to it all goes to crap
I'm frustrated with myself and with the situations that are leading me to do it
and the killer is i know i shouldn't be doing it when i am but i can't stop
ugh!
Our bizarro weather has me in ALOT of pain ( i don't take meds well ) and some fam issues are stressing me out ( i nolonger take paxil) so its a double edged sword with pb&J speared on it
I'm going to look for my WW stuff and see if some serious structure can't pull me out of this coz I don't know what else to do
On a holiday note we're doign the parade in ny with my cousin and I'm bringing salad and a veggie
I think I'll steam some asparagus with a little butter sauce on the side (so i can skip it!)
and salad with feta and black olives and maybe greek dressing

Hello Everyone!

Leenie – Gotta love days off! I got the whole week off from work, unfortunately I still have to go to school LOL and unfortunately I will still be doing homework on my days off *pouts* I’ll be doing a lot of cleaning as well for this Thanksgiving. Speaking of weird weather… we have had some weird weather to. It snowed here! Well not by me, but like a mile up from me. The whole mountains were covered with snow. It was beautiful! At night the moon reflected off the snow and we could actually see the mountains, it was strange! Almost like living in a different location.

Ebay Grilled Cheese – WOW! However, I’m with Cathy on this one… No time to look for pictures LOL *drools*

Cathy – Go for it! You deserve to enjoy Thanksgiving and not be scared to touch anything. If you can do it and not go over board then more power to you! Just remember, if you lost the weight once, you can do it again because you obviously have the will power for it. That just gives you more success in controlling how much you eat on Thanksgiving. I plan on doing the same thing, eat in control, but not worry about writing everything down.

Joanne – My prayers for your son! Even if the situation is not the same, I am sure the ladies here understand how hard it is to get over temptation. We all have our faults, it just takes time and hard work to not let that “pull” get to us.

KO – Don’t worry… I was in the same pot as you. It took me a while to find something that worked for me. It took me a LONG time. The funny thing is, I used to laugh when people said you need to count calories and weigh your foods out and this and that. I refused to do that because I think that was desperation at it’s lowest point. Well guess what… I am counting calories, weighing my foods out and so on. You know what? After several years of failing diets and so on… this is the only thing that has truly worked for me. Now when I saw counting calories, I don’t just say I gonna eat 2000 calories a day and that it. If I eat 1700 one day, I can splurge and eat 2300 another day… something they call calorie cycling or zig zagging. I have a diet program called Diet Power and it allows me to track both ways, strickly 2000 a day or zig zag for the week. It’s helped a lot, however! I found that I went from 3200 calories to cutting it to 1800 calories. That was to much at one time. I ended up weakening my immune system and got sick several times after each other. So now I’m backing off slowly. I’ve cut down to 2500 calories. Right now I’ve cut down again to 2200 calories. Its going to take you time to find what is right for you and what will work. Just read what other people do, take notes, and then try something. However, there’s one thing you can’t get around. You need to exercise and you need to change your eating habits. For me, I eat what I want, but I stay within my calorie limit, however I’ll change some things like one of my recipes calls for “Heavy Whipping Cream” I use 2% skim milk instead. Or I’ll use a low fat dressing or something. Every little bit works. It will definitely be frustrating, I know that it was for me, but you will eventually find something that will work for you! Don’t give up! Just start over and try something different. *big hugz*

Lynnie - you sound like me! I have eggs chilling in the fridge for deviled eggs and have a veggie tray all set up. Just gotta find the dip! Now it's time to go cleaning.

I weighed in on Sunday… I lost 1lb… man! I’m telling you it was hard for that 1lb! With all the stress going on WHEW! I can’t wait for next term. I’m going back to having class online on Tuesday and Thursday, so that gives me more time on the other days to do homework and plan time for exercising. Also three class, not 4 or 5 lol!

I’ll catch up with you ladies later, I got some planning and cleaning to do.

Take care!

AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING (if you are planning on going away and I don’t catch you later )

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Enjoy your day off and time spent with family and friends.

Eliz

Thanksgiving Prayer

A 4-year-old boy was asked to pray before Thanksgiving dinner. The family members bowed their heads in expectation. He began his prayer, thanking the Lord for all his friends, naming them one by one. Then he thanked the Lord for Mommy, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa, and all his aunts and uncles.

Then he began to thank the Lord for the food. He gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes, even the Cool Whip.

Then he paused, and everyone waited -- and waited.

After a long silence, the young fellow looked up at his mother and asked, "If I thank the Lord for the broccoli, won't he know that I'm lying?"

Default what a funny thanksgiving

You wouldn't believe what happened today of all days. Our oven decided to act stupid. We cooked our turkey the whole time it ws supposed too.The white was down and very good.Well my BIL2 and his wife wanted a drumstick. The bottom of the turkey wasn't done. The bottom of the dinner rolls weren't done. The bottom of the candied yams was not but thank goodness I had already baked those before rebaking them cut up.

When Dh was cutting the drumsticks off I started cracking up because i had told my husband i thought the oven was acting dumb. I was right.None the less ; it was a great Thanksgiving.

Good morning gang!

what a cute joke Liz! hehe

We had a great day yesterday! ate too much food, but had a good time visiting with family, and it was really beautiful here - crisp and clear.

I think we are gonna put up our Christmas Tree today. Just waiting for dh to get back from duck hunting so we can get started. But that is fine - I'm gonna drink my coffee and take it easy this morning.

What's everybody doing today? anybody going shopping and fighting the crowds? I plan to stay right here.

Hope everybody has a blessed day!

hugs,
cathy
