any advice on how to gain stability in recovery, control mood swings?

  • Hi...

I am a bit nervous to write this. I have bipolar and a loved one who in my life has noticed my mood swings, snapping in anger, mental switching/vacillating between feelings and emotions and is rather concerned about me. I am ashamed of these issues yet I know I have come a long ways in my life of thirty-six years. I used to get livid for days, now I almost immediately feel guilty and apologize after an anger episode which is major progress.

Regarding my eating/food issues, I am almost certain that I have dealt with EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) upon a Registered Dietitian's telling me this and I am currently in Overeaters Anonymous. I work with a sponsor, and on step one and have some issues tied into my bipolar from my ednos.

I am in biweekly talk/cognitive behavioral therapy and I see a psychiatrist at the same agency as my therapist once every six to eight weeks for twelve to fifteen minutes (med checks). I feel my therapist and I have some issues to work out regarding a better treatment strategy and I strongly feel that twelve to fifteen mins is not a lot of time for an assessment of one's mental state and how what psych med regimen they should be on.

So that's my story. What are your experiences and may I please ask, what has helped you if you can relate? What are your suggestions and advice? Please be honest and I am open to your honest opinions.

    Thank you in advance.
  • seabiscuit, I see that there haven't been any responses yet, and I dont want you to feel abandoned! I don't have any feedback..I just take my med and I don't see anyone ( I would like to but don't want to spend the $)
  • Thanks Holly :)
Thank you Holly! I really appreciate you replying to my post. Thank you very much. It helps to know that I am not alone.

I hope your med helps you. I understand about the not being able to afford healthcare, many Americans cannot. Personally, I am on government programs to help with my expenses and that does help a lot.

Take care and thanks again. Have a nice holiday.
