Today is a new day...(long rant)

  • So...I was in nursing school. Doing fine, busy as ****, studying like crazy, and doing really well. Within 1 week (at the end of the semester) I had an uncle show up at the Dr. with a BS of 699, an aunt who was admitted with pneumonia and malnutrition and put on a vent, and her husband who was in a hit and run who was left in a coma with his left arm in need of amputation. This was during finals in the spring....holy crap! I missed the cut off by 2 points and they kicked me out of school. Spiraling depression, but I couldn't stay in the bed forever. Got up, took some more classes (speech, I had been putting htat off until my SR year anyway) I just did my reentry exams..Had to take the finals for all of the classes I passed in order to get back in...Adult 1 passed(OMG the info!) Mental health passed, Med math passed, skill check offs...I did fine with foley and sterile dressing change but panicked during med reconcilliation due to the teach standing up my butt watching and saying "you didn't get it yet, you didn't get it yet" The anxiety took over! She totally freaked me out! FAIL..... the first place my head when was what now...? I have invested all of this time and money. My credits don''t count towards a culinary degree....(lol). I made an appointment and finally got some antidepressants and antixiety. Even though I don't have a solid plan yet, I know that things will be better this time. And to top it all off, I got on the scale this morning and had dropped 2 lbs...woohoo.

Sorry about the long post, I just had to rant, rave, whine, and bounce back.
  • Sorry to hear of all the bad things coming your way. If nursing is your dream there must be a way. Is there a counselor available ? Or maybe you could go into the medical field but some other area. Lab Technicion or XRay Technician, what else interests you in that field. You have the determination and have had a lot of sad things happen that would cause depression for sure. Good luck.
  • Thanks bargoo, I appreciate your kind words. I just really needed to rave for a minute. I feel better this afternoon.
  • Rave away, that's why we're here. I do it sometimes too.

    Good luck with your future!
  • Definitely Bounce Back!! I am trying to go back to school at 38 for nursing. Talk about road blocks along the way! You are strong and you can do this! It is like our lifestyle change.... Everyday really IS a new day.
  • I just wanted to also chime in and say, keep at it. Don't give up. I finished PA school a year ago, and there were many times during the didactics that I wanted to quit. Clinicals were challenging too because of crazy people that make me spazz out too. But, really, in the end, you can't let them get to you. Don't let anyone prevent you from reaching your goals... especially a rude teacher. If anything, try to let this experience motivate you to prove them wrong!

I hope you get the meds and support you need!!
  • Thanks for the replies...seriously. it's nice to be able to rant and be heard! I'm 4 days in on the meds and I'm feeling better. A plan is formulating (gurgling) and I'm doing my research.
