Default Metformin & Depression/Moodiness

Has anyone ever started taking Metformin (to control blood sugar and Pre-Diabetes (Type II)) but then started feeling like Depression was coming on or worsening? I started the medication this past week and this whole week I have been struggline with negative thinking (more so than usual) and my thoughts just keep spiraling until I'm feeling awful.

Just wondering.

Yup. I was diagnosed as insulin resistant, and was tossed onto Meformin. In addition to the potty issues, I found myself incredibly moody. I chose to discontinue the meds and make a diet change. It wasn't worth feeling miserable.

I have been on on Metformin/Glucofage since I was 13 for PCOS. I've never had that issue. Actually my mood swings got better once I was on it. But everyone's body reacts differently to medication, and if you feel that it's affecting your mood DEFINITELY talk to your doctor about it and consider other medication or like AZ said, a diet change. Hope everything works out for you hun!

I had the exact same problem, my husband told me he thought I was bipolar because I would go from happy to in tears at the drop of the hat. Or go from crying to really angry. Stopped the Metformin and the mood swings disappeared.

AZ Sunrises: As someone who was recently diagnosed as IR and put on Metformin, I am feeling the same thing with the mood swings. I am going to tell my endocrinologist next month I don't want it.
