I was on topamax for migraines as well (I am no longer on it). I didn't notice a decrease in appetite.

I've been on varying levels of Topomax for nearly 5 years for migraines.
I, too, get the "Dopomax" effect at the higher dosages - so I had to cut that down to 100mg per day, but then the headaches returned. Now I'm trying to taper myself off slowly but from other posters, I REALLY don't want to gain weight!
I lost about 15 pounds within a month when I started topomax. I could not drink soda anymore - it tasted awful, even diet. I just plain didn't want to eat. All that, though went away after about a month or so, so if your MD rx'ed it, I'm sure it's for a good reason and try to stick it out for a good couple of weeks!
topamax was great for me for about 6 months, lots of energy, no migraines, lost 40 lbs in 3mos. was willing to deal with difficulty finding words to finally be pain free after almost a year of daily migraines. then I started having all these weird symptoms. all the "uncommon" side effects hit me hard - rapid heart beat, fainting spells, odd pains in my legs. first they thought I had heart damage from the chemo, then that my cancer returned in my bones, my gp finally figured it out. I didn't want to stop the med by cut it in half, which caused me to have suicidal hallucinations! for some people it works great, but I wouldn't try it again. it should always be started at the lowest possible dose and gradually increased.
This is all really good information I went to see a shrink yesterday my second appt with him and he prescribed me Zoloft for my depression and he suggested next time (3 weeks) he may prescribe me this if I wish for Weight Loss..He wanted me on Wellbutrin because it may cause some weight loss, but I can't take it because I am a former bulimic..
Does anyone else have a doctor that has recommended this for weight loss??
