Insight welcome

I was wondering what your thoughts on this were...

Suppose I'm on a diet. I count calories, so I'm a bit obsessed with writing it down. However, if I go to a restaurant where the nutrition is not disclosed - or I somehow go off my intended plan for the day - it becomes a free for all. Something clicks in my brain that says, "Hey! You've alreay ruined today! It's not going to hurt to eat all you want and start being good again tomorrow!" So thats what I do. I go out and buy everything I shouldn't eat and eat it, because I can. Because, hey today is ruined anyway - what harm can I do? I justify the binge. It's a horrible habit, but I can't seem to stop doing it. I can recognize that I do it on days when I'm being healthy - but when that one or two days a month roll around - i just eat EVERYTHING without thinking, then feel horrible for the next two weeks while I undo all the damage I did in that one day.

I think it got to the point once where I stayed up until midnight, because I could eat up to 11:59 pm without it making anymore of a difference than my original slipup.

Has anyone else had this issue, or figured out a way to overcome it? I realize that I can just "change my behavior" but if it was that easy, I'd have done it and my therapist wouldn't still be trying to figure me out after 2 years. It's like a compulsion I can't seem to change no matter how much I try.

It's also worse when I'm alone...

If I eat that cake and no one is s around to see it, have I really eaten it?:?:

Leenie 06-26-2009 12:58 PM

Hi Ladies, and TGIF ;)

Jelly I think I would have a hard time having some one living w/me too. Big adjustment thats for sure.

Marbear, I don't think many of us can say we haven't struggled with "I'll start my diet tomorrow" syndrome. I've done that so many times and then there's the, oh heck, I'll start on Monday or at the 1st of the month... lordy thats how I gained most of my weight. So to answer your question.. yes, I can most certainly relate to that. How to stop that? hmmmmmmm thats the $1 Trillion dollar question. What I try to do is, if I screw up a meal to be really good at the next meal instead of stand back and get the chocolate pnutbutter ice cream out lol. Its a vicious cycle isn't it, and its always easy to say I'll start my diet tomorrow on a full content belly :( One meal at a time... one meal at a time

I am so glad its Friday yahoooie... whats everyone up to this weekend. Tomorrow i'm treating my toes to a pedi... my 2nd one in my life LOL I never thought I would have them done but boy, when you get it done once, your hooked.

.

G'Morning :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

HeatherAngel 06-27-2009 10:26 AM

Morning all!

Leenie, I had my end-of-school-year pedicure on Thursday - enjoy!

Jen - hang in there - stressful days for you, for sure!

Marbear - I echo Leenie - we've ALL been there... someone once told me she'd heard her WW leader state the following: 'Blowing your diet with one cookie and then thinking 'Well, I might as well ruin the whole day!' is like slipping on one step, and throwing yourself down the rest of the stairs!' I always remember that - doesn't always stop me eating!

Nothing new here kids - just enjoying the start of my summer :) Where are the rest of our girls??

Heather :D

hope4me 06-27-2009 01:38 PM

I'm here! I'm getting ready to plant my tomato plants and do the weekly cleaning, laundry, etc. What a great way to spend a day off! I don't really mind. I like hanging around the house sometimes.

Though I haven't been perfect nor have I tried to be I'm down 5 lbs. Yay! It's a start. I guess the high cholesterol scared me into getting started. I'm doing ok on the competition at work. I'm using that as another anchor to keep me going.

Well, I should get a few things done and I'll check back in. What are y'all doing today?

HeatherAngel 06-27-2009 04:11 PM

I'm being a dutiful daughter (rare for me!) and having my parents and niece round for a BBQ - I figure I might as well enjoy the summer on the back deck of this lovely house as long as I can!!

It's just gorgeous out! Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine!

Hope - way to freaking go - 5lbs!! awesome!!

Heather :D

hope4me 06-27-2009 08:38 PM

Heather-Thanks! Bbq sounds good. What are ya havin?

I got a call from a friend today and we went and got an unplanned mani and pedi. Leenie, I thought of you. I rarely ever get them but it was nice I have to admit. :cloud9: Sure beat the heck out of the housework plans I had. :o I did plant my tomatoes and did a few loads of laundry so I should get some brownie points for that right? :D I also did a 45 minute workout. :exercise: So all in all it's been a fairly productive day.

Leenie 06-28-2009 07:26 AM

Good Morning, another sunny day (finally) in Jersey :sunny:

Heather bbq sounds nice, and yes, enjoy every moment you can, especially with family.

Hope 5 lbs is fantastic congratulations  Pedi's are so nice, I got a french one b/c when it grows out you don't see any white lines from the new nail so it seems like it last longer. I can't believe how many little girls get pedi's... how spoiled rotten are they haaaaaaaaa.. including mine of course. Gee my first pedi was at the age of ... lets just say old ;)

Today is my mom's 81st surprise birthday party so thats what I'll be doing most if not all of today.

Well girls, have a really great day and lets try to stay OP or the best we can do today. Nobody's perfect but if we try our best that seem to be all we need.

Purefire 06-28-2009 10:58 AM

Good Morning!

It's been awhile since I've been here. So I guess I'm a new / old member. I had almost reached my goal but then I moved from Indiana back to Massachusetts. In three years I've gained all the weight back and then some.

So I'm trying to lose the weight again. This time I want to lose weight.
Talking to other people who are trying to lose weight and have some of the same issues help last time. Hopefully this time it does the same lol.

Purefire =^.~=

Leenie 06-29-2009 07:17 AM

Good Morning,

Welcome Purefire  the chickies on this board are so sweet.

Where in the world did the weekend go? zooom ~
I have to take dd to the doctor this morning, I think its a corn at the bottom of her foot but nonetheless I have to get it checked out. Then its off to camp for her and home to work for me.

Hope everyone has a great day !!!

Hugs, Leenie

marbear24 06-29-2009 10:29 AM

Good Morning Ladies,
Hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm not sure if any of you are soccer fans, but it was good to see the US beat Spain this weekend.

I've swam for the past 3 days - and I'm feeling a lot better than I had been.

It's still rainy up here in Maine - I miss the sun. :sunny:

Have a good day!

hope4me 06-29-2009 11:30 PM

Marbear--good job on the swimming. It's amazing how fast exercise can make us feel better, isn't it? That's why it makes no sense to me why I ever go very long without doing it.

Purefire--welcome to our group! I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you along your journey. I had also lost all my weight and gained back even more. You are not alone.

I worked early today and came home and took a nap. That pretty much took up the whole day. Time sure flies by. My eating was good today but I didn't fit in my workout. My time management isn't what it should be but my efforts are putting me in much better shape than if I did nothing. I'm grateful for that.

We went to the store tonight and bought blueberries, strawberries, red and yellow rasberries, and blackberries. Yummy. :T I could live on berries (if I was rich that is!) They are so expensive. Can't wait to put them on cereal in the morning.

Leenie-The french pedi is a good idea. I've never done that. Of course I've only had a couple pedi's in my whole life.

marbear24 06-30-2009 07:55 AM

Good morning ladies! It's still rainy. Boo. The weather isn’t helping my mood, or the little saplings I have sitting in my office window. They want sun!!

No matter how much I shower, I still smell like chlorine - so when I walk out in the rain and get wet I smell like I just got out of the pool. Ha, Oh well :).

Lennie - Have fun with the pedi :). I've only ever had one, and it went very poorly. I'm uncontrollably ticklish on my feet :( the lady got really mad when I couldn't sit still and kept laughing uncontrollably.

Hope- Berries are delicious, though terribly expensive. I’ve resorted to frozen blueberries for breakfast. Not quite the same, but still good (and still kind of expensive. Oof.)

Happy Tuesday. (aka: One day closer to Friday)

Leenie 06-30-2009 10:11 AM

Can't stay and chat... work calls

Have a great day Ladies.

Leenie

HeatherAngel 06-30-2009 11:34 AM

Morning!

Hope - I am so confused by the berries, but maybe I have no perspective... I pay $2.99/pint and measure out a half cup onto my oatmeal each morning, so it works out to about .75cants a day... is that a lot?? I am so unsure... I don't even know where my berries come from - probably up from the states! Do you pay a lot more for blueberries?

Anyway, just plodding along here, getting ready for Thursday. A bit anxious now - I hope I'm doing the right thing!! Bit worried I'll end up on one of those 'Worst Plastic Surgery' websites - !!!

:welcome: Purefire - you will find lots of support here - glad to have you with us!

How are all our other chickies??

Heather :D

hope4me 06-30-2009 11:05 PM

Hi ladies,

Long day at work. I was busy, but not really in a good way. I'm just glad to be home. I'm off tomorrow but I have pool tomorrow night. I don't have any plans except housework I guess and hopefully working out.

Heather, I guess berries are cheaper at this time of year than usual but I still feel like they are a costly 'garnish' or an add on. If you eat an apple or banana it kinda fills you up, berries are more of just a treat but not filling. We spent over $20 on them yesterday and $20 could buy a couple of meals instead. I don't know. My pint of blueberries were on sale for $4 but can be $5 for 1/2 pint in the off season. I guess I think of them as a luxury but I do buy them more than anyone I know. It's all perspective I guess. :dizzy: Do you have to do any prep tomorrow or fast or anything to get ready for surgery?

Buddly, Amarie, Sassy- what's going on?

Jelly-I was wondering how Transformers was. I want to see it.

Leenie 07-01-2009 08:41 AM

Good Morning,

Heather  good luck tomorrow sweetie, please know you'll be in my prayers for a gentle recovery... take pictures !!!!!

Jen, good to see you :)

Hope enjoy your day off today.

I can't believe that its July 1st already.

Heather ~ Good Luck

Today is such a crappy day out. Its pouring and thundering out. :tantrum: But it's nice to listen to.

I did go for an hour walk this morning. It was lightly raining and I looked like a drowned rat when I was done.

I'm not overly happy that I ended up gaining weight. Its Only 1.6 lbs but I knew I would last night. I had a few things that I shouldn't have yesterday, but I'm back on track today. Having a cheat day here and there isn't a bad thing.

I have a bunch of cleaning to do for the afternoon. My room looks like someone dropped a bomb in it. It was clean yesterday.

Have a good day ladies.

Purefire =^.~=

Good Luck Heather!!!

buddly 07-01-2009 11:44 PM

Good Luck Heather!!

Canada Day here, we didn't do anything special most of us had to work. We thought of having a hot dog roast but the bugs are to bad out there. We've been having a fair amount of wet cool weather and the bugs love that.
DdC leaves tomorrow morning to fly to Calgary for judo nationals. This is her first time flying and she's more than a little nervous especially since none of us can go with her.
Anyway just trucking along here wondering where summer is.

Take care everyone,
K

Leenie 07-02-2009 11:37 AM

Good Morning,

HEATHER !!! gentle ----> can't wait to hear from you.

marbear24 07-02-2009 12:25 PM

G'day ladies.

Heather - hope you're feeling ok!

Jelly - I'm jealous that you get to go on the roller coasters. My husbands a big wuss and won't go on the with me, and it's not fun to go on them by myself.

Jelly's right - it is a very boring/slow day today. If anyone has something fun to share - please do!

Purefire 07-02-2009 09:10 PM

Hi Everyone.

Heather: Hope your doing ok.

Jelly: Enjoy your trip to six flags. I'm not a roller coaster person. I am afraid of heights. :yikes:

Leenie: Enjoy your 3 day weekend.

It's only the 2nd of July and so far this month is going down hill. Which I sort of expected. I am hoping after the 4th things will get better.

So I need to vent..

Today I did almost nothing. I made my bed but I still have to clean the rest of my room which is not really a mess I just like it a certain way. I had I list of things I wanted to do today as well. Instead I took a nap.
Which I needed but my mother called and woke me up and I've spent the last 2 hours taking care of her. She's on medication and lost her meds 10 days ago. She hasn't taken anything since. She was going off the wall and the fact that she was drinking and in fact drunk didn't help the situation. I got to the bar she was at and told her to pack up her stuff.. it's time to go home. Which she did.. thank god. Then I called the pharmacy to find out what I could do about getting her medication. The insurance won't cover it until July 10th, but her prescription is cheap enough that they gave me a 15 day supply for $11. Why no one thought to do this is beyond me.

I've also been in a crappy mood since this morning. So that is probably the main reason I got nothing done and took a nap. I think almost my whole family has a facebook account. The issue was the comment my cousin Brooke made which started an argument between family members.
The comment was only...."remember, remember the 5th of november. the gunpowder, treason and plot. i know of no reason why the gunpowder
treason should ever be forgot. ( i really want to watch this right now.)"
It really meant nothing. The date however did. My cousin Josh made a comment on it that caused the argument. My grandfather died on Nov 5th 2008. and July 4th is his birthday. It is still hard on alot of my family members especially me that he is not going to be here this year. Just reading the posted comment made me so upset.

I'm sorry I really don't vent this much. Those were just the two things that were really bothering me today. I can usually just deal with it on my own without saying anything.

The only good thing today is that I've been OP. I am going for my walk which I do every night in about an hour. I am looking forward to tomorrow night. I'm taking my son to see the fireworks.

Purefire =^.~=

HeatherAngel 07-02-2009 10:12 PM

Thanks, chicks! :grouphug:

Just a quick note to say I'm home - pretty sore, and a bit barfy, but I'm doing okay :)

Grateful to you all for such awesome support -will chat soon!!
Heather :D

hope4me 07-02-2009 10:33 PM

Heather, you should be one HOTTER mama by now. :flame: I hope the next few days won't be too painful for you. I'm sure it will all be worth it. Can't wait to see the pictures!

Buddly, how did dd do on the flight? Flying alone can be a little scary the first time. How are your meds working out? Things any better? Happy Belated Canada Day! I tend to stay away from the bugs as much as possible too. The itching from the bites is miserable.

Purefire, sounds like you had a rough day. Sorry you are having to take the roll of parent with your mom. That's tough. I didn't know you had a son. I hope you both enjoy the fireworks! Good job on staying OP with all the stress of the day! :bravo:

Marbear, I wish I had something fun to report but just another day at work for me too!

Jelly, have fun with dh and the rollercosters! I haven't been on one in about 5 years now. I used to love them.

My eating wasn't what it should be today. I did well at breakfast and dinner but lunch...:moo: I had some mozzarella sticks followed by a burger and fries. :ink: Tomorrow I must do better. I paid with a stomach ache for part of the afternoon. I'm off tomorrow and just working around the house and fixing something for our cookout/potluck at work for the July 4th holiday.

Check in with you ladies tomorrow. Any plans for the 4th? I'll be working all weekend.

hope4me 07-02-2009 10:37 PM

Heather, just missed you!! Glad you're home and ok. Get some rest and chat soon. :)

Leenie 07-03-2009 08:08 AM

Good Morning,

Heather's Home !!! whooohooooo you rest up girlie. How are you feeling today? what exactly did they do? You certainly are a brave soul, I'm very proud of you.

Hope no plans for the 4th... which is kinda nice. I just wish the sun would stay out.

Purefire, you can always destress here, thats what support is about and I think no one understands that more than us chicks here. Sorry to hear about your mom.... I can understand why your moods have been out of sorts, its to much for just one person to deal with. Try not to pay mind to your cousins comments... like my DD would say.. boys go to jupiter to get stupider and she's only 7 LOL. Pretty sad a 7 year old can figure out boys already LOL. Enjoy the fireworks with your son.

Jelly.... enjoy NJ, hope it stays sunny for you. I live about 1 1/2 hrs from 6 flags and the last time I was there I think I was about 18 years old... LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago LOL. I used to go for the concerts... last concert I saw there was... ut ummmm.... the Oak Ridge Boys haaaaaa bet you have to look them up LOL. Anyway enjoy.

Marbear I'm with your DH.. no fast rides for me. about 10 years ago I went on the tilt a whirl with my nephew and neice... when I got off I was so sick, my insides were shaking for about 2 hours. It was aweful. I learned my lesson LOL, and to think I loved that stuff as a kid.

Whats up with the rest of you chickies.... ???

Have a blessed day

Sassy_Chick 07-03-2009 09:54 AM

Hola Chicks. I hope you all have a Great 4th! Um which brings me to the next question........um it is July, R we going to start a new thread?? lol. Doesn't make no difference to me, was only asking!

Have a Great One!!!

buddly 07-03-2009 11:44 AM

Good morning

Heather so glad to hear you are at home and alright. You take it easy and heal well *gentle*

Well DdC made it alright and it sounds like she is having fun. She doesn't fight until Sunday, but she said she has 14 matches!! She is going to be so tired when she gets home Monday. Her coach said he will take her to the team physio and get her elbow looked at today and again after her matches, so hopefully she can get some help there as it still causes her a lot of problems (she dislocated her elbow in Sept) She is nervous about the trip home, but I'm sure there will be others leaving at the same time so that will help.

Hope I'm still a little discomboobilated. So many changes have been going on in life lately. I have been going to a weekly group to learn relaxation techniques and how to destress. Its nice to not be alone. Thanks for asking tho.

Happy 4th to all my American friends!!! Stay safe and have fun!!!

Hope you are all doing well. I have to start getting ready to head out to work.

Take care all,
K

HeatherAngel 07-03-2009 12:05 PM

Hi

Feeling much better today - I am MUCH more able to handle pain than nausea! As soon as I'd thrown up enough to get the anesthetic out of my system, I felt much better :) I'm very slow, and less mobile than I thought I'd be, but telling myself it will all be worth it! I'm not one to sit still, so recovery will be a bit boring! :lol3:

Buddly - discomboobilated? ME TOO!! hahaha

Leenie - I went the whole hog - tummy tuck for the excess skin, breast lift and augmentation. It was so funny to take my clothes off in front of my mum last week - she was really against my surgery, couldn't see anything wrong with how I looked. She was really shocked at the results of losing so much weight, and came on board supportive after that - it was nice to get her support in the end.

I needed the boob lift, Leenie, but I'd gone from a 48DD at my heaviest, to a 36B - and a very small, sad, deflated B... I always joked that I looked fine in a padded, underwire bra, but take it off and where are my knees? Oh there they are - under my sad little boobs! So the surgeon explained that a lift would lose me a cup size -!!

Anyway, I'm selfishly rambling on about myself - I love you chicks!! Have a great 4th my friends South of the Border, and a marvelous weekend!

Heather :D

Leenie 07-03-2009 08:16 PM

Oh my it is July isn't it LOL Sassy's right :)
Thanks Purefire for starting up a July thread... I'll close this one now.

Heather I'm sooooooooo happy for you... and I know exactly what you mean about the knee covers ;) .... horrrray to your mom as well. We love you too chickie. I'm glad the pain is bearable... I too toss my cookies with anesthesia.. ick. Feel better toots ;)

Buddly I'm glad dd is doing well

On to July...............
