Hi I just wanted to share that I have taken Zyprexia, (very briefly) and it is NOT a Mood Stabilizer for Bi-Polar Disorder. It is an Anti-Psychotic for stopping visions/hearing things that aren't there. Go to your library or a bookstore and check out a MED Reference book, and they will explain the pro's/ and cons of what med you are taking.
I did gain weight on Lamictal and it didn't help my moods at all. I was the worst I have ever been on that medication and I despise (sp) it.

Just FYI, it's true that Zyprexa is an antipsychotic, not a classic mood stabilizer, but it, and other antipsychotics can be used as mood stabilizers, especially in bipolar refractory to more classic treatments.
In psychiatry there are classes of drugs TYPICALLY used in certain disorders, but the lines are blurry and the current trend is to focus on the meds that work for certain SYMPTOMS, not certain diagnosis.
...I just point this out so that no one reads this and assumes that b/c their doctor put them on an anti-psychotic that it IMPLIES that they think they're psychotic and/or that the doctor doesn't know what they're doing...
i'm on Abilify - no weight gain with it.
I can't tell... I've never been good at noticing. I just changed to Lexapro from Celexa and they added Topamax, so we will see but now I'm trying to diet ???? I starting gaining weight in my 20s which was when I was put on anit-depressants. I was always thin. I remember thinking I would never be over 120. I ate whatever I wanted?!?!
I just thought I gained weight b/c I got older mid 20s. I jumped up to 160s before I knew it. Oh well
