Feedback as to Experience w. Wellburtin!!!

Hello everyone. I have been put on Wellbutrin for depression last Friday. I take the XL 150mg in the morning w. breakfast. My experience has been the following:

1. Horrible Nightmares
2. Not a problem falling asleep but I wake up during the night and have a hard time falling back. Very tired when I wake up.
3. Slight constipation
4. Feelings of jumpyness inside

I know that it hasn't been very long since I have been on it but I don't feel any better with regards to the depression. In fact I have become more depressed due to all of these side effects. I would love to hear others experience on this drug and if any of these side effects may decrease with time. Thanks and I look forward to your responses. Have a nice day!

I was put on Wellburtin and became suicidal. My doctor took me off immediately. You may not be able to be on that prescription. Tell your doctor immediately.

Hi I have been on Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. started out on 150 for 3 days and then increased to 300 mg. It takes a few months to get used to it and I have tried exfexor and I like this wellbutrin alot better. Also two girls I work with take it. I have lot 18 lbs. and contribute alot of my success to feeling happier, I gained alot of weight after a hysterecomy. I also started counting points WW (don't go to meetings). I lost the weight in 6 months. Give it a while!!!

Antidepressants affect each person differently. If you're having those side effects, tell your doctor so you can get switched to a different drug or your dose changed. One drug works great for me but it won't work so great for someone else. Likewise some drugs work great for others but cause me to become suicidal! What you need depends on your personal chemical makeup and your condition. Antidepressants each work differently and a doctor has to try different ones until he finds one that works for you.

It sounds like you've definitely got the "anxiety" related side-effects. I've been on it for about the same amount of time & haven't experienced anything like that. Like the others suggested, tell your doctor ASAP.
Good luck!

Hi! I've been on wellbutrin for about a year and a half now. I started with 150s and was on them for about 3 weeks before moving up to the 300mgs. I had some of the side effects, insomnia, jittery-ness(is that a word?), and I got headaches for about the first month. After that they just seemed to go away. I lost about 10 pounds and it has REALLY helped me as far as the depression goes.

But as Ari said, antidepressants effect everyone differently and I would talk to your doctor and see if you can figure something out, or maybe try a lower dosage?

Anyway, good luck and don't give up! There's help out there that'll work for you in one form or another!

Update on Side Effects

Good morning everyone. I wanted to continue to journal about my experience with being on Wellbutrin...

The side effects that I was having have improved. I no longer feel internally nervous (jittery), my horrible nightmares have stopped (even though I still have some crazy dreams that make no sense), and I am doing better with not waking up in the middle of the night. In fact last night was the first night that I slept soundly with no dreams all the way through til my alarm this morning.

I don't feel like my mood has improved all that much but I do know and understand that it takes several weeks for the meds to improve mood. I am happy that my side effects have decreased and for anyone who reads this that is new on Wellbutrin and are having a hard time with it all I can say is try to hang in for a couple of weeks, for me time helped the situation. Thanks everyone for your responses!

I had some jittery side effects when I started on Wellbutrin, but they went away within a couple weeks. It doesn't do a *lot* for my mood, but it really gives me enough energy to face the world, which is what I needed most - WITHOUT the sexual side effects that were driving me NUCKING FUTS. I'm glad it's working out for you now! :)

I took welbutrin for about seven years (after trying zoloft, which worked great but gave me terrible reflux, it took several years for the damage to be gone). I had crazy dreams before welbutrin, during it, and now, after. During those seven years I dealt with a lot of the baggage I'd gathered during the years before my diagnosis, quit drinking, lost a lot of weight, etc. So last fall I decided to taper off & see what happened. I still have really nutso dreams but I think that's just me.

A couple of weeks ago I felt like I was sliding back into the darkness and I really didn't want to go back on (it messes with my digestive system quite a bit), so after doing some reading about sugar & moods/depression, I thought I'd give it a shot for a bit and see what happened. I have given up refined sugar completely, eat almost no meat, no refined carbs of any kind (no bread, no white rice, etc.).

The result, though it may be too soon to tell: I feel amazing. No mood swings (not the same as depression I know, but there it is). No yawning black chasm of depression.

I am grateful to the drug for giving me the space I needed to get myself back on track but I'm really hoping that I can manage my depression with diet and exercise.

All that said, everyone reacts differently, and you may need to try something else, like I did with the zoloft.

cheers,
Sue

I went on Wellbutrin and within days verbally attacked my mother and sister. I literally saw red and just went completely psycho on them. I will never take that medicine again and my doctors office has it listed as an allergy so it is a permanent part of my history now. It didn't help with my depression at all.

Glad some of your side affects have subsided. Hopefully the depression will fade soon. When I tried Wellbutrin I felt like I was on speed and NOT in a good way! :) I had "Flight of the Bumblebee" going in my head all the time because I felt like I was going that fast!

I have been on Wellbutrin (XL 150 mg)for 4 weeks now and today my doctor asked if I wanted to go higher. I said no and now hove 3 more months of the 150mg pills.

I have not had one single side-effect .. I feel calm and balanced. They really have saved my life.

I have been on wellbutrin for about a month now. I started at 150mg and now take two pills a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. It has really helped me. I do not feel any side effects. I have always had problems with insomnia though.

On Welbutrin

I am on Welbutrin as well - 300mg/day. When I was only on Welbutrin I had the same side effects as you. My doctor tried 20mg of Celexa to relieve the anxiety, horrible nightmares, sleep problems and jumpiness. They are now vertually gone. I have changed to the slow release Welbutrin (you take one 300mg only in the morning) and I have found that my mood is more even through the day.

Good Luck

I've been taking Wellbutrin SR for a few years now. Luckily, I don't have any side effects. I was actually hoping for the weight loss one, my luck, I didn't get it. With all psych meds, it can take a few weeks to feel the benefits of the med. However, side effects can start almost immediately. Some tend to disappear after a couple of weeks. As others have already advised, let your doctor know what's going on. :goodluck:
