Autumn to Winter Challenge 2019
Inspired by boopchick's challenge last Summer, I now bring you the Autumn to Winter Challenge, which runs from September 23rd until the first day of Winter, December 21st, 2019
Whether you are looking to lose weight or maintain, all are welcome. Feel free to join in at any time. Post your starting and goal weights and your weekly progress on your day of choice. Autumn has a lot of Food rich holidays, so can be a tough time to stay on track. Let's all motivate and support one another. Feel free to join me again in the spreadsheet:Autumn to Winter Challenge |
I've gone ahead and set my goal to get into the 160s by the end of the challenge. I'm losing very slowly now, so even though it is only a few pounds, it will still be a stretch. I'm pretty sure I was in the 160s in high school, 25ish years ago, but was ok with how I looked and felt then, so rarely weighed in, so not 100% sure when I left the 160s. I might have still been high 160s when I left for college, but I was definitely in the 170s by the time freshman year was done. So regardless of the exact date, it has been a LONG time since I've seen the 160s.
I had set my end of year goal to be at 100 pounds down, which would be 167.4, but as long as I'm close to that, I'm happy. |
I do terrible with challenges but I want next summer to be better than this one was so I have to start somewhere. I'll probably figure out how to navigate the spreadsheet by the 23rd!
|
UMM YES! Thanks Lacerta for this!
The final day of my challenge is the day hubby & I leave for our belated honeymoon. I'd like to have nice numbers prior to my two weeks of eating "all in" lol! What perfect timing. :) Adding in my numbers now! Edit: Well, my goal will be 10 pounds down from whatever my Autumn's end number is! Which...I secretly hope is below 150  |
Haha, you don't have to do the spreadsheet at all if you don't want to, but all you need to do is put your name, your starting weight and your goal weight in the first 3 boxes of a row, then your weight each week on your chosen day. The boxes on the right will take care of themselves.
Also :welcome: and Good luck |
Thank you for starting the challenge Lacerta. My tracker app claims I’ll be at goal by Dec 25 but I really don’t believe that. I’m going to aim for a more realistic 20 lb loss in that timeframe. So I’ll say challenge GW will be 161 lbs. I’ll adjust on starting day if by some miracle I lose a lot this week. |

Count me in!! :-)
|
I'll be joining again as well! I can't believe summer is basically over!
My 5K is this Saturday and I didn't work out like I planned of course lol I think I'll beat my record time though! |
I'm getting ready for a trip home on December 26th, so this is perfect timing for me. I'll get my starting weight on the 23rd, and adjust my goal if it is too much/too little
|
I'm joining this challenge!
I have a family trip on December 23 so it's near to my goal date for the moment. I've done a challenges before, I hope this time I'll be able to stop binge eating. |
My weigh in day is usually Monday. Keeps me honest over the weekend! I've adjusted my goal to 18.5lbs lost in this challenge. Im hopeful that 6 lbs/month is doable, despite a vacation and the holidays being in the middle.

Thank you for starting this Lacerta! I had forgotten to update my stuff from the summer to autumn challenge. It felt good seeing my progress this morning!
|
Thanks for starting this again Lacerta! This is the challenge that kicked off last year's weight loss so i'm going for it from the beginning again!
SW: 277.8 CW:277.8 GW: 257.8 (-20 lbs) |
Woop woop!
I am 152/153 after a Saturday of all-in eating. With that said, I know it's not pure fat gain and will stick to the same goal: 140! Since I also suck at finishing challenges, let's make this the SECOND ever challenge that I see through to the end! :carrot: |
HAPPY FALL!
Thank you everyone for signing up. I love seeing so many people who want to work on being healthier now and not waiting for a New Year's resolution. I'm starting the season right where my weight has been averaging for the last 2 weeks, at 176.2. I'm hoping for a whoosh sometime soon. I set my goal for just being in the 160s, but I'd really like to hit 100 pounds down by the end of the year, which is 167.4, so I'd want to be as close to that as possible. That would be 8.8 pounds from where I am today, which is not out of line for what I've been doing. |
I’m in!! I’d like to lose about 10 pounds a month on this challenge, bringing me to a new low of 210!! Good luck everyone!!! SW: 241.8 GW: 210.0 |

I had slowed down a good bit, so last week I decided to lower my calories by 50 and it looks to have worked, hopefully this just keeps up! I can't believe I am on track to meeting my goal I set last summer! My new goal will be 150, I never thought I would get this far so I set my first goal of 180 pretty realistically, but here I am!
|
Well, Lacerta, I'm back for another go at this . Thank you for continuing this thread and challenge. Fall is a glass half-empty, half-full season for me. I'm grateful for the beauty of the season, and the cooler temps that allows me to walk from here to there without sweating all over the place. At the same time it is the season for comfort food, my birthday, and the holidays. My goal for this challenge is 190.
Wishing everyone much success and good luck! |
Love seeing all of the progress so far! :) Also, yay it is FINALLY October. I am so looking forward to cooler temperatures...though cool here is like 70s.
|
I really like these quarterly challenges. It is gratifying to see weight slip off.
I traveled the last 6 weeks of the Summer to Autumn Challenge and basically maintained during the travel period - but that makes me feel so good! Honestly, I thought I'd gain back at least 5 pounds, but I lost two! I really loved writing that loss down in the last challenge. Hoping to get to 209 by the end of this challenge. Two pounds a week is tough for me and I'm not sure I'll make it -- but I love writing a lower number down every Sunday morning. Thanks Lacerta. |
Good job everyone!
I had a cheat day Thursday, it was my last test before my final and I just felt like I deserved it lol I have been craving a sausage egg and cheese mcgriddle from McDonald's so I had that for breakfast, then my lunch was a funnel cake at a festival, then dinner was pizza and cheesey bread from my favorite pizza place. After the fact I really didn't do that bad, I ate way less on my own and I was satisfied. If this was a year and a half ago I'd have probably ate 4,000 calories that day but instead I was around 2,300! |
Way to go everyone getting off to a good start. I had a really good week this week and got a substantial way toward my goal. But historically, my pattern is to then stall for a few weeks. Plus I don't normally lose anything the week of the 10th due to stress retention from work anyway. So my hope is to just hang on to the 173s this upcoming week.
|
Oh, and because we have so many participants this round (awesome!!), I am going to move anyone who doesn't update at least once a month down to the inactive list at the bottom. For now, I went ahead and moved sgregg, as she posted in another thread that weight loss in on hiatus due to being pregnant (grats to her).
If you get moved to inactive and then come back and update, I will happily move you back up to active again. |
I'm down a total of 4 lbs so far, since starting this challenge!! :-)
|
Kstrong: I made a mental note on you, since you mentioned it, but I'd say go ahead and just add a note in advance "Traveling" for the weeks in question would be perfect.
Denise: Great start, way to go! |

Hello! I'm new to this site and this is my first time posting.
My name is Jules and I'm looking for a much needed weight loss! For the past five years I have been yo yo-ing in between 165-190. I am fed up and ready to make a change for good. I'm so happy to have found this site and thread. I think a challenge is just what I needed. I started October 1st so I will update with this information. Good luck to all. We got this! :jig: SW: 183.92 CW: 179.9 GW: 160 |
Welcome Jules. Good luck and :dust: to you
|
Jules - Googlesheets doesn't calculate correctly with commas, so I went ahead and changed your two weigh ins to decimals instead so it will calculate lost pounds and percentages properly. Way to go on being over 4 pounds down already and reaching the 170s
|
Whoops! I didn't notice I used commas. I was wondering why the calculation wasn't working. Thanks for fixing that!
So I was wondering what is everyone doing for weight loss? Diets or workouts? I'm counting calories and exercising every other day at home. |
Jules: Weight loss happens in the kitchen, getting fit happens from working out. So it depends exactly what your goals are. Studies have shown that working out is not a big help to losing weight, but it is a huge sign whether or not you will keep the weight off, and also helps you look better after you lose the weight. So both is optimal, but don't expect the workouts to make you drop huge amounts of weight. I watch calories, go for a walk most days and do bodyweight/dumbbell workouts around 3 times a week. I also recently implemented a stretching regimen most evenings, which I've really been enjoying.
So, after an absolutely abysmal September, I've had an amazing month so far in October. I actually reached my October goal this morning. I'm currently only about 2 pounds from my goal I originally set for this entire season. I'd really like to hit the 100 pounds down mark, which is 167.4, so I'm going to change my goal to that. I thought about setting it there in the first place, but September was so terrible that I was concerned 8 pounds was too much to hope for. But since I'm already over halfway there at the 3rd week, I don't think that is a crazy goal for me. Goal updated. |
I cheated again this week and it shows. I had to celebrate again friday night and went drinking. I dropped my daily calories 25 more today and I'm going to get back in the gym this week so hopefully I turn things around!
|
Wow Lacerta!! That is amazing congratulations! Once summer is gone I always find it easier to lose the lbs and get back on track. I think it's great that you update your goal it will only push you more!! Congrats on the progress.
I agree with what you say. The best way I've lost weight is counting calories and it's amazing how much we don't realize how many calories we are consuming. I try to work out to give me a push because I find it quite hard to only consume 1400 calories which is the goal I set. I'm also vegetarian so I must eat legumes daily and they really add up calorie wise. I'm down two lbs this week so I'm super happy!! My b'day is coming up and my mini goal for then (Nov 10) is 173lbs I'm currently at 180. |
@somedaysunny
Don't worry about the cheating!! It's in the past now work on making this week your best one yet!! You can do it. Alcohol is tough to give up but it's empty calories and not worth it. If you must drink steer away from beer. Maybe have a gin and tonic or vodka and soda. At least try to limit the calories as much as you can. I'm a big beer drinker and let me tell you this summer was my worst yet. Anytime I drink it's also followed by chips or fries and in the end on one outing I would consume like 2000 calories or more!! This month I decided to stop drinking and I am feeling so much better not to mention the bloating has gone down significantly. But I do understand that if your out with friends it's almost impossible to not fall into the temptation of just saying screw it and enjoying yourself. Let us know how you get on this week!!! |

Welcome!! Jules I pretty much just cut back on my food intake and exercise.. I struggled with overeating for the most which is what caused my weight gain. So now, I work on not eating so much/smaller portions of food!
Lacerta Congrats on reaching your October goal hun!! etherbunny WTG on your numbers moving down hun!! Progress is progress!! somedaysunny There is nothing wrong with you having a cheat day/meal. Just don't let it suck you back in and consume you that's all!! We all cheat sometimes, well I know I do!! lmao I just pick back up and keep it pushing! You got this girl! |
