~*Sweat This Summer Challenge 2017*~

:sunny:Welcome to Riestrella's Sweat This Summer Challenge 2017 Edition!!:sunny:

Summer is officially here! Despite being the time of the year our bodies are on show the most, it can be a difficult time to lose weight. Trips out with friends and family, food, alcohol, vacations - it can be just as challenging to lose weight this time of the year as the rest! Here's a spreadsheet challenge to try and help you through the summer months. So let's sweat our butts off together, whether it be in the heat or through exercise, and keep each other in check :). LEGGO!

Please read the rules below before joining.

Before Joining, Please Read ALL the Rules!
  1. You can join this challenge at any time up until the final 2 weeks of the challenge!!
  2. -->Click here to access the spreadsheet used to document your weigh ins!<--
  3. Enter your Username on 3FC, your starting weight and goal weight for this challenge NOT your overall starting weight/goal weight.
  4. Be sure to have your weekly weigh in on the spreadsheet by Sunday, because I make the charts on Monday. In the spreadsheet when the column is labelled "WK 1 8/31", that means the week BEGINS on the 31st August NOT the particular day you have to weigh in!
  5. Check back in to the thread and I'll publish a weekly chart to show who's dominating over us all. Charts are Top 15 biggest losers only!
  6. If you want to take a break from weighing in then right click the cell for that week and select "Insert Note" (definitely not a "comment" because these won't move with your username if new members join the spreadsheet!) and add your reason for not weighing in. If you have a week that you know you won't weigh in ahead of time - let me know and I'll insert the note for you.
  7. If you don't weigh in for more than 2 weeks without a noted reason you will be moved to Standby. Come to the thread and opt back in if you want to re-enter the challenge!

That's it!* A huge part of this challenge is the community support, so please use this thread to talk to each other and update us on your progress. It’s less about just saying “today I weigh ___” and more about actually communicating with fellow sexy candy panda’s and talking about your life and all its ups and downs. Think of this thread more like a chat thread rather than just a place to post weights. We're here for you on your road to awesomeness!!
*FAQ
  • Can I change my Goal Weight once the challenge has begun? ~ Yes!
  • There's a - mark in my cell for a week, but I know what I weighed! Can I change it? ~ Yes! The more information you can put in the better. Let me know your missing weights and I'll input them myself.
  • My weight changed during the week but I already entered my weight, can I change it? ~ OF COURSE! Just submit your weight again using the same form, no problems.
  • The chat thread for my forum is dead...can I talk in a different thread? ~ Absolutely! We have 2 threads going, one in the Chicks up for a Challenge forum and the other in the 20-Somethings forum. Doesn't matter about age or if you're a regular in that forum or not, please hop in to the thread wherever you see it.

:carrot:Enter your starting weights now and the challenge begins July 3rd 2017!!:carrot:

I'm determined to be more successful on this round than I was on the last one now that the move is over. I just joined another challenge that goes until Labor Day, so this is of similar length, but I want to stay consistent with joining your line of seasonal challenges as well, Rie. You've been doing a great job with them, especially considering how busy real life can get!

This challenge will be ending a little over a week before my birthday, so it will also help keep me focused on hitting my goal before that, as well! So, it's a win-win...lol. I would like to get under 200 lbs by my actual birthday, so I'll be setting my goal at 20 lbs down for the challenge and hoping that keeps me at least close to getting there by then!

Rosinante 06-28-2017 04:16 AM

Yay!

Thank you very much for this, Riestrella!

I didn't do so well in the Sizzling challenge, so I'm determined to try harder this time. I've regained a few lbs, probably mostly water, so I've given myself a strapping 22lbs target ~ I've really got to concentrate on this!

I'm still going to be weighing monthly but I'll remember to put a note on the spreadsheet so you don't think I've given up altoether.

Good luck, everyone! :carrot:

Farn0057 06-28-2017 07:27 AM

Thanks for setting this up, Riestrella!! I love your challenges! Im super pumped about this challenge helping me to be accountable this summer, especially when there's so many BBQs, get togethers, and what not. I have been doing poorly these last two weeks. I'm up two pounds and haven't really exercised. Plus, I've been eating out of my calorie range. I'm going to really focus this summer! My first wedding dress alteration appointment is 8/28! The last day of this Challenge! Talk about motivation! My goal is to get to 210, a total loss of 31.2 pounds.

Good luck ladies!!

curvynotlumpy 06-28-2017 10:22 AM

Rie, thanks for continuing to inspire us with these wonderful challenges. I'm doing another challenge that runs simultaneously with this one but is a tad longer in duration. It's been a long time since I've engaged in multiple challenges so my goal is to see them through and drop weight. :goodscale Good luck on your multiple projects and everything else that is keeping you busy!

MorningGlory1950 06-28-2017 11:23 AM

Riestrella ~ I thank you for your devotion to all of us! My weight had "waxed and waned" this past challenge. I need to psych myself to continue my journey. This challenge should do just that!

workinglikeadog 06-28-2017 11:37 AM

:carrot: Yeah, I'm so glad for this challenge. Hoping to lose a few more pounds this summer. Continuing with mindful eating, portion control and delayed eating for the diet part. Still plan on doing Kundalini Yoga one day and the next to walk for the the exercise part.

Thank YOU Riestrella & good luck fellow chicks.:carrot:

RunningRedHead 06-28-2017 12:32 PM

Thanks for running the challenge, Riestrella. I just signed up for the Labor Day Challenge as well, which ends a week after this one. Good luck everyone ;)

MumofMany 06-28-2017 03:19 PM

Sounds like a great plan! Count me in! :) Hoping to lose a stone/14lbs.

rdjrneace 06-28-2017 05:09 PM

New here and this is right up my alley - hope OK to join in.

Blicca 06-29-2017 11:38 AM

So excited to get started! I love these challenges, Rie!

Rosinante 07-01-2017 03:39 AM

Oh, I need this! Cancel my plan to weigh monthly, I'm so not ready for that yet! My weight is just creeping up and up. Back to weekly for me!

Ditto!

MorningGlory1950 07-05-2017 02:02 PM

Rosinante ~ I am right there with you! I was on a bit of a staycation last week and for 5 days I reverted back to a bingeing behavior that I am not at all proud of.

gardenerjoy of The Beck Diet Solution thread wrote:

"I feel lighter" is a thought that I can successfully substitute for "I'm hungry." Feeling lighter makes me happy. Feeling hungry makes me grumpy. Most of the time, I get to choose which I want.

I am going to employ this technique every time I am tempted!

Have a wonderful week!

jessiegreene 07-05-2017 03:27 PM

Thank you for setting this up, after 3 weeks of vacation and eating like a pig I need some encouragement and accountability.

MorningGlory1950 07-07-2017 12:41 PM

After 5 days on a low carb I am feeling so much better after a 5 day debacle of binge eating. I am reading Rational Recovery by Jack Trimpey and it has helped immensely in - stopping once and for - all this irrational behavior.

Let's all embrace this summer as our time to succeed and sweat! :flow1:

Riestrella 07-10-2017 08:32 PM

Week 1 Chart everyone!

https://s1.postimg.org/nqylwnorz/week_1.jpg

Rosinante 07-12-2017 03:43 AM

Thank you for posting the Week 1 chart!

Woohoo! I'm on it

6lbs off now, just weighed this morning. I'm pleased but not ecstatic, as I'm re-losing a regained re-loss of a regain. I'll be happier in another 6lbs when I'll be into newer weightloss.
Also, I'm a week into a new BP med, and one side effect is fluid retention, and I know that's happening, I can see it in my ankles. Compared to other possible side effects like insomnia, depression, a permanently flushed face, I know i'm getting off lightly! but could live without weight gain too. I wonder if it will settle?

Good luck, everyone! :carrot:

 Same here!

I hope the BP med doesn't significantly slow your loss/add too much water weight. Good luck getting to the new weight loss numbers! :)

The regain relosses are a pain, aren't they? :D

Good luck!

Chunkahlunkah 07-15-2017 06:35 PM

Rosinante - Yes they certainly are! And thank you! I'm looking forward to getting to some fresh numbers.

Rosinante 07-19-2017 03:40 AM

Growling and grumping here. A whole week of effort for 1/2lb loss, 8 meangy ounces. to me. Good luck, everyone else! :D

I feel your pain! Week 2, I lost only two ounces. I lost a nice chunk for Week 3 though. :) ... Putting a little less chunk in my chunkahlunkah.

Riestrella 07-23-2017 11:53 AM

Woah, guys! My bad! I completely spaced on week 2 charts! I'm sorry! For some reason I thought I'd already done them?!

Riestrella 07-23-2017 12:10 PM

Hey everyone!

It's been a looong time since I updated y'all. Seems like it's pretty quiet around here? I'm not surprised given that it's summer! I've been busy too. Since the beginning of the challenge I went to Colorado for a wedding. It was lovely! Though I definitely ate too much. I had red meat almost every day it seems, eep. A very indulgent week that's for sure. When I got home my body was thanking me for not eating so unhealthy, but I definitely put on a pound in Colorado when I lost the water weight.

I've not really been feeling the buzz about doing T25 like I was before, so I think I'm going to focus on yoga for now. The last time I did a T25 video I had to stop it early because my hamstring seized up. I think I need to ease myself into rigorous exercise so I think yoga is the way forward for now. Which leads me onto my next point: I HATE SUMMER SO FREAKING MUCH. It's so humid here! I just hibernate in the summer months!! I'd love to go out on walks but it feels like an armpit out there. Not nice. I can't wait for Autumn already, but that's a good 2 months away *sigh*.

I need a bit of a loose plan for the next couple of months to get me through summer (which is always my worse time of the year for weight loss).
1) Focus on eating healthier food/snacks. I've gotten back into the bad habit of eating too many grains. This needs to stop! It doesn't do well for me to eat grains with every single meal.
2) Drink water. Another habit I've lost is drinking my usual 2 bottles of water a day. I used to be so good at this! I CAN DO IT.
3) Yoga. It's not much, but it's something, and it'll help with the general aches and pains I get with being fat. Once summer is over I will start either running again or doing T25, whatever I feel I'm in the mood for. Traditionally I usually start running again in Autumn/Winter. I do have lofty running goals (wanna do a famous marathon somewhere in the world!) so I need to actually BE a runner for that to happen!
4) Check in here and stay accountable. I keep avoiding this forum and even thinking about my health because I say I'm too busy, but if not now then when? Life will always be busy, which in my field of work is a GOOD thing, so I can't keep avoiding staying accountable forever.

I think that about covers it. I know the YouTube channel "Yoga with Adrienne" has a Yoga Camp series that I'll probably work through. I like her a lot.

As for my personal life: Things are ok; not terrible, but not great. Just ok! It's all to do with money/paying rent. I miiiiiggghhht get a gig that will pay a lot of money which will be rent covered for a couple of months and will fund my trip to Japan in a flash, BUT I'm not counting on it. I'm expecting a rejection email soon. There's a sliver of hope though.

I'm looking forward to my trip to Japan at the end of September, though I can't lie and say I'm a bit bummed out I'm still in the 170's and it's just a couple of months away. If I can really work on my food intake over summer then maybe I can lose enough weight to feel confident at my friends wedding? I wasn't too bothered about the wedding in Colorado, but being at a Japanese wedding I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb as a foreigner. On the day I won't even think about it - I'll be enjoying catching up with old friends and seeing a good friend get married!

That's all from me! Hope everyone is doing well!

Rosinante 07-24-2017 03:24 AM

Hi, Rie! Thanks for putting the week 2 chart up! I love your challenges!

Wow! You sound to have a lot going on just now! Good luck with your self-challenges ~ and I hope the gig comes through! :D

Well done! I like that, "a little less chunk" :D :D :carrot:

Chunkahlunkah 07-26-2017 10:22 AM

Ries - Sending out positive vibes for you to get the gig! What lovely locales you visit for weddings. Thanks for positing Week 2. GL with all your goals! :)

Ros - Thanks! :D

Rosinante 08-09-2017 04:20 AM

Plodding, rather than sprinting, but have lost 9lbs in this challenge. It helps, thank you, Rie!!

LauraRVA42011 08-09-2017 09:59 AM

Hoping this challenge is still active! I will keep posting if only for myself. :)

workinglikeadog 08-09-2017 07:38 PM

This challenge is helping me as well. I gained a few pounds, but looks like I'm a bit more focused now. One day at a time.:love:

I've been roasting and eating more turkey breast than usual.

Farn0057 08-11-2017 06:17 PM

I'm still here too!!

Riestrella 08-14-2017 12:33 PM

Hey guys!

So sorry I've been absent from this challenge! I'm a terrible challenge host this year. Just when I think I'm ready to get back into the weight loss game and be active on 3FC again, something comes up and smacks me right around the head as if to say "JUST KIDDING! TIME TO STRESS!" My weight is slowly but surely creeping back up though, which is terrifying/disappointing/upsetting all rolled into one. This is the heaviest I've been since 2012 and I'm actually heading towards the weight I was when I first joined 3FC all those years ago. Arggghhh. I just can't seem to get the ball rolling on anything these days, both in weight loss and in life. If we had more money I'd actually go and see a professional about my issues, but alas, we're poor so I have to deal with this by myself. I definitely feel like my depression/anxiety issues has started to get in the way of me living to my true potential. It's like there's this version of me in my heart that's super productive, determined, ambitious, driven, has all these dreams but then there's this steel wall wrapped around it that stops any of that coming out. Sorry for the dramatics, but it's the best way I can describe it! It feels good just to vent it out sometimes.

ANYWAY. ENOUGH RAMBLING. Here's Week 6's chart!!

I've started counting calories again. I'm sure this will be a short term thing, but for now I need SOMETHING to focus on to keep my weight in check. I'm not a huge fan of counting calories personally, just because I get really lazy with it, but fingers crossed this will put me on the right track. I'm just mindlessly eating these days, or not realising just how much damage I'm doing with my day to day meals.

Rosinante 08-17-2017 04:48 AM

Thanks for posting the Chart, Rie! A nice, long challenge like this I find very helpful: I have such a switchback record in weightloss, that in the last year I've managed to lose enough to get down to only 10lbs more than I was this time last May ..... So to remind myself I've had a 10lb loss so far is a much needed fillip.

Have another  on the anxiety/depression, little beasts. I think you're doing just right to focus on calorie counting for the time being; I know that when the a&d are biting me, having a defined plan really helps me feel more in control.

Thanks to this summer challenge I lost 19 lbs so far! It's my reminder to not give up and seeing others do this challenge too helps me not give up. If there's another challenge let me know! <3
