Default W.O.W. Women on WEED - Butterball Christmas Challenge!

Calling all butterballs! It’s time to focus on your Christmas goose and drop a turkey before the fat man in the red suit shows up . This challenge, I propose, we mix it up! Can you work off a turkey before Christmas? Along with our normal WEED (see below) everyone this challenge will be issued a 25lb turkey to work off by December 24th. Each pound you lose, or mile you log, shrinks your turkey. For example, if you run/walk 15 miles, and lose 10 lbs in the next 7 ½ weeks, you have LOST YOUR 25lb TURKEY! Share your story, set your goals, ditch the bird and come have some fun! (Don’t chicken out!)

Women on... WHAT??

"Women on WEED" is not what you might be thinking. During previous challenges, a group of us formed a great bond, and we've been challenge buddies ever since. We use the word "WEED" as a mnemonic device to set daily goals, an easy and very specific way to remind yourself during your day to take care of your body, and to nurture your Mind, Mouth and Muscles... it really does help. After all, we are all taking this a day at a time, right?

We would love to have you join this challenge! When you do, you will see it often - and you are encouraged to give it a try. Here's what it stands for:

W - Water intake. Set a daily goal for how much water you're going to drink. Although there is conflicting research as to how much to actually consume in a day, we all agree it is important to drink lots to stay healthy. So make it a goal!

E - Exercise. Efficient, healthy weight loss isn't going to happen unless you incorporate some kind of physical activity in your life. Everyone does it differently; some go to the gym, some work out at home, and some find ways to sneak in little bits of exercise all throughout the day. Set yourself a goal, even if it's small. Little bits done often WILL add up over time!

E - Eats. Being that we all have different eating plans and weight loss philosophies, this is sort of a wild card. Whatever plan you're on, set yourself a plan-appropriate daily eating goal for the day. Don't forget to make it specific!

D - Daily goal/Daily affirmation. This is another wild card. It doesn't even have to be weight-loss related! This is the spot where you list something you want to get accomplished. Or, you can use "D" for a daily affirmation - it's an opportunity to say something good and positive about yourself. Sometimes, when we fall short - and we ALL do sometime - we are tempted to berate ourselves. Although it's good to recognize when we don't reach our goals, it's also good to remind ourselves of the awesome parts of ourselves. So go ahead and remind yourself of that in the "D" part of WEED.

Kris here. 44 YO mom to 4 kiddos, wifey to captain construction man who hunts a lot, and I work as director of 75 public works magicians. I have been on this site for YEARS and love the WEED group. We have held each other up through thick and thin. I want to start my November challenge by saying thank you ladies, and know that I am thankful for you!

I have some battles ahead. A trip to a new doc on Friday has put me on notice. Prediabetes. High triglycerides. Overweight (shocker). Still smoking cigarettes on an off. It’s idiotic really. Add this to my “genetic mutation” that predisposes me to cancer, and I’m playing with fire. I have been referred to every fricken specialist you can think of (GI, OB, Heath Ed, Dermatologist). Reality check, again. Gotta get serious. I need to show up this challenge. No more excuses. I’m gonna lose my turkey.

Speaking of which, I will be changing my pic to my turkey. And naming it. And it shall be a reminder that it needs to go away. Every. Single. Day.

I look forward to new peeps, and of course our die-hard WEEDers. Let’s get a head of the feasts and drop the turkey now!

MY PLAN:
W – Minimum 64oz daily (Starting 1st week with Jillian detox lemon-cran-daffodil root tea water)
E – 30 Min a day/10,000 steps (November Daily Dog Walk Challenge)
E – Start by logging MFP consistently. Calories at 1,600-ish.
D – Action cures fear. Ditch the bird.

Current Turkey Weight : 25 lbs
Turkey Total Lost: 0

Kris, I am thankful for you as well! I am SO proud of you! You got this! Just one step at a time! I just looked and the Tink is not full yet. Gonna see if I can make that work! You need to start taking care of you so you can take care of the rest of them!

OK, on to intros. I am Mavis, 49 yo empty nester! Married for almost 30 years to my HS sweetheart. We have 2 boys who are off following their dreams on opposite corners of the USA. We also have Hubs 93 yo Dad, so we are free by no means. I work two jobs, I need to find some balance in my life!

I love the turkey idea! I'm going to need to tweak if just a bit for me. I'll do the 1-1 on pounds lost, but I am going to do 1 for every 5 miles to inspire me to get more miles in!

w 100 water
e running, try to get back to spinning at least twice a week and lifting
e low carb, reasonable fats
d keep moving forward

Checking in!

Mavie -glad you made it! Let me know on the Tink. Once you sort it out, we need to get a room out there! I wish I hadn't missed the 5k. I thought about how easy your turkey would be to ditch with all the running you do. Nice compromise and way to keep pushing yourself!

Today, food started strong. I was in control at lunch. Lost it at dinner as it is hubby's birthday (the big 40) and we ordered pizza in. Water was less than 10 oz which is inexcusable. Currently only at 4,100 steps. Boo. Tomorrow will be better on all counts.

I went in to work today with 2 major things on my to-do list. Came home tonight with both of them still there. Boo. tomorrow will be better.

It went from 88 degrees yesterday to low 70's today. I'm a SoCal girl. I can't do 15 degree changes in weather or wardrobe ( and yes I am a wimp as 70 degrees begins my cold threshold). I would at least light some sunlight left on my drive home.

That's it for now. Hope everyone is doing well!

OMG, have to agree on the hate the dark ride home. It just sucks. Also means I have to run in town instead of from the house. Not my fave because it's just less convenient. (We live on a rural mountain road, no streetlights, no sidewalk and lots of blind curves where I'd be in danger of getting hit) it also means my beautiful bike is put away for the winter. Boo on all counts!

Kris, don't beat yourself up about pizza, today's a new day. Happy Birthday to hub! 40's have been decent for me. Get those steps up there today! I forgot which tracker you have? I'm thinking I'll ask Santa for one this year!

W 100
E spinning or elliptical, kettlebells
E low carb, day 3 with no cheats if i can pull it off
D how blessed we are to live in a democratic society. Vote today, because you can.

Hey ladies. Love all the turkeys Kris. So cute. It is almost time for me to get stuck at the gym on the treadmill. Went Sunday for the first time. However, this week is going to be beautiful...70's in November??? I will be outside for one last hurrah. I do need to get some weight work into my life though, so the gym is not a bad thing.

Kris- So did you get signed up for that 5k? Hubby keeps asking me about this winter race. Just might have to do it. Even though I detest the cold.

So not sure how much I told you about my daughter. We moved her home this summer from a terrible living situation she was in. Wet moldy basement..yuck. She put all her things in storage. Went to get winter clothes a few weeks ago and all her stuff was gone. Apparently she put it in the wrong unit and they auctioned off her belongings due to a balance form the previous renter. It really sucked. Everything she has acquired for 30 years...gone. SHe has handled it so well..better than me. We got her some winter clothes and it looks like birthdays and Christmas will be fun shopping for her. God bless her heart. She didn't deserve this, she works too hard trying to improve here life.

East coast butterball checking in. Got on the scale today and am officially 250 lbs again!!!!
Carma here, calorie counted in the past with success. Going to give it a try again. Almost 44 yr old Married mom of two,13 yr old boy and 11 yr old girl. I am a critical care trained nurse who currently works in Cardiopulmonary rehab. Which means I get paid to watch people exercise, unfortunately I have been lacking in that myself. My husband I lost our mom's in 2013 and now help care for my father in law. It has been a depressing, money sucking last 6 months of which I gained 33 of the pounds I lost in the first 3 months this year. The excuses stopped today. I recorded every ounce of food. Felt good. Hopefully I get up early enough to walk in the morning to get exercise back on track.

Weed for today:
w: 64 oz water, 20 oz other beverage
E: 10 minute walk at lunch
E: I think it was 2400 total. Don't want to crawl out of my bed to get phone.
D: I can be my own best friend or my own worst enemy, the choice is mine.

Weed for tomorrow:
W: 80 oz water
E: walk 30 minutes
E: shoot for 2000.
D: I choose friendship.

Kris: way to go on the 5k registry.
Mavis, mindy and jeni hope all is well.

I did a whole post this morning...and lost it!!

Mindy, that sucks for your daughter! I can't imagine. On the other hand, you've been really upping the mileage, good for you!! I am with you on the weather, this is awesome!

Carma, Welcome back! We've the same year. I lost my Dad last year, his sister 7 months later and have been caregiver for my FIL for several years, buts its getting tougher every day.

Kris, Hope the rest of the week was better! Get those things off your to-do list!

W 100 I got that today
E Nothing, but I am OK with that. I got home last night and had to can a bunch of meat. I am thinking maybe lifting the canner and stuff I pulled something. This morning I thought I was having a heart attack. It feels like someone is standing on my collarbones, ugh!
E Day 4 on plan, we will see.
D After me, you come first!

Weed review for today:
W: 80 oz plus 32 oz tea/coffee
E: 10 minute lunch walk, 30 minutes this evening.
E: 1856 in 247 out
D: feeling strong. 1.5lbs down, I know it is mostly water weight.

Weed for tomorrow:
W: 80 oz
E: walk 30 minutes
E: under 2000, try and get more fruit and vegetables
D: I need to plan out my meals with my shopping.

Mavis: it helps someone is in the same boat, not sure how much longer we will be able to care for my fil. The goal is to get him back to being independent, but he doesn't show a lot of ambition.
Mindy: just read about your daughter, how awful!
Kris: tough call from the doctor. Is your hubby being supportive?
Jenn:

My son joined me on my walk. Think I may try and progress to running once I am walking 1 hr a day, 5 days a week. It will be tough. The darkness is killing me. I need to hunt down more head flashlights. Hopefully I can walk in the afternoon.

Morning chicks. Canning the rest of the meat today! Should be finished by noon, the last of it is in the canner now! Going to hit the shower and go to packet pick up for tomorrows 15k, may take Hubs and stop at Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Have to meet some peeps at 7 tomorrow to head for the race. After that I have just some work stuff for the afternoon.

9 weeks to my marathon. I've been pretty lazy since the half. Calling it recovery, but it's lack of ambition. I'll be taking my long run back up 2 miles a week from tomorrow. That will get me to 23ish 2 weeks before the marathon and then I'll taper back. If I can run 23, the excitement of race day will take me thru the last 5k.

w 100
e stretching & crunches
e day 1 op, I was not so great yesterday. we went out to dinner Wednesday for our anniversary, I stuck to plan but was up anyway. Probably salt. Anyway, I was bummed and ate like crap yesterday. On a good note, should run those carbs off tomorrow and still see a loss for the week!
d keep it going

I hate when life gets so busy I don't have time for me. It has been like that. This upcoming week I have a Meeting Monday and conferences Tues and Thurs. YUCK!! After that though it is smooth sailing into Thanksgiving. Going to the gym today and hopefully Monday/Wed.

Scale is stuck on an ugly number...182.6 Been there over a week, it won't budge. Have a great week ladies.
