October Exercise Challenge
October in the Northern Hemisphere gets us to days that really feel like fall -- and in the Southern Hemisphere spring is springing. Great seasons for putting new energy into our exercise.
State your goal and track it throughout the month with this supportive group of fellow exercisers. We'll compile our exercise goals into a list. Up until now, I've tracked my walking (outdoor) and my other exercise (indoor) separately. Given that Fall is upon us here in Canada, it's tough to predict what the weather will be like and thus difficult to know how much indoor vs. outdoor exercise I will do. So, beginning this month, I will simply track total exercise minutes...whether outdoor walking or other indoor exercise.
So, following that lengthy preamble, I shall get to the point! :) I think an October exercise goal of 2,500 minutes is a reasonable target... a bit of a stretch but nonetheless achievable. |
So last month I went above and beyond what I thought I could reach. I set a miles goal of 40 miles and by the end of September I had reached 137 miles. It was all thanks to working hard on the cardio machines at the gym! So this month I’m setting a target that I never believed I’d be able to do in one single month! I didn't meet my gym goal in September so I'm going to stick to 20 times again and try reach that target. Here is to October, best of luck everyone.

I did not meet my goal in September. I am signed up for two 5K fun runs in October. My goal will be the Lazyman Marathon (October). Oct 5: 5K plus warmup jog = 3.5 miles Oct 8: 3.1 mile run Oct 12: 1.5 mile run Oct 14: 3 mile run Oct 19: 5K plus warmup = 3.2 miles Oct 21: 2 mile run Oct 26: 5K plus warmup = 3.5 miles Oct 27: 3.1 mile trot Oct 31: 3.8 mile run Total: 26.7 miles completed my third 5K fun run in October :) |

I like the three levels also. I would normally do 1800 minutes for the month, but I'm traveling and have an illness, so I'm going for

Last month I (barely) met my acceptable level -- I had to walk 2 times yesterday just to meet the miles, and go to the gym...I am tired today and my poor doggie does not want to get out of bed :D. So this month I am really going to push myself for the desired level and maybe Wow I Did It! sprinkled in. Good luck everyone. :grouphug: |
Thanks Joy! I am shooting for 1 lap (1.2 miles) a day walking in the walking park. For the days that the weather isn't cooperating, I have bought a small stepper and I will use it for 20 minutes instead. For any day that I may be sick or hurt, I will accept making up the exercise on another day, as long as I get it all in during the month of October!
Edited to add: I'm going to simplify this. I went on another walk this evening so that I could time it, and it's approximately 20 minutes, so if I do 20 minutes walking or 20 minutes on the stepper each day, that equals 620 minutes for the month. GOAL: 620 minutes walking and/or stepping 10/1: 40 minutes walking/ 5 minutes stepping/ 45 minutes down |

Gearing up to exercise!
I have been trying to get some exercise in since starting the program (IP) so this board will be my new kick in the pants!
My goals: 1. Some form of exercise for at least 45 minutes per time 3x a week. 2. Meet with personal trainer. 3. Try one new/different form of exercise. Here we go!!!! Week one: found a trainer but not much else! |

My goal is to walk/run 6 out of 7 days a week. And to do 3 circuit workouts a week. This week is kind of hard since it's starting on a tuesday, so I am going to start that officially next week. But this week I am just going to make sure I do something every day.. whether it's just a walk/run.. I may do a circuit workout on Thursday. ;P 10/01 - Walk/Run. ( 30mins, 2miles ) |

Gardenerjoy-- I need to modify my wording. A dear buddy here pointed out that with the weather turning to Fall etc, that it might be better to challange myself to the EQUIVALENT of 30 mins a day of walking for me for October. That way if it's nasty one day, and I miss that day, then if I walk 60 mins the next day, I'll still average out good. (averaged 30 min a day x 31 days is 930 mins walking for me for Oct for my goal). Can you modify that for me?

GOAL: 620 minutes walking and/or stepping
10/1: 40 minutes walking/ 5 minutes stepping/ 45 minutes completed 10/2: 20 minutes walking/ 85 minutes completed 10/3: I'm not counting this toward exercise but I was helping a friend move today and I was on my feet for hours, up and down stairs, out to the truck and back, carrying boxes and totes and furniture. That is the reason I did not walk or step today. My feet are aching, lol! |
Yay! I met today's goal!
October: 01: Walked during AM & PM break, 1.53 miles on treadmill 02: Walked during AM & PM break, 1.35 miles on treadmill, 30 minute circuit done 03: Walked during AM & PM break despite a horrible wind. I went to the gym after work and walked 2.01 miles on the treadmill (40 minutes 53 seconds), then as an extra did 2 minutes on the elliptical. That thing is trying to kill me! LOL |
