Do any of you weight lift? Do you stick to the machines or use free weights?

jrkessle 12-04-2012 06:30 PM

I've decided to take a scale break until my finals are all over. I feel like I depend too much on the scale to tell me how to feel about myself, so I'm not going to weigh-in until Monday the 17th. My goal is to get back on track between now and then and to see great results by that point.

Fatness 12-04-2012 06:39 PM

I don't do much weight lifting; but I need to do it more offen..

I need to give the scale up too.. It's controlling me! I will try my best when I hit the gym later to not look at the scale until Monday! This will be hard for me!

jrkessle 12-04-2012 07:38 PM

@Fatness I am just psychologically traumatizing myself every time I gain a little bit of weight. I'm like crying my eyes out right now because I ate 3 pieces of pizza at a little last day of classes party tonight.

Don't worry about it. I was like this over the holidays . I was 198 when I went to my friends house and came back 204. I look at it like this; I did not really gain weight, but the food was still processing In my stomach.

Let me tell you something ; jog 10mins on the treadmill and walk it out for 60min and trust me your digestive system will kick into play and get that food to move.

You will still be burning at the same time. This worked for me when I ate a lot for thanksgiving.
:carrot::carrot:you can do it:carrot::carrot:

I weight lift about four times a week. I use mostly free weight, but some of the machines for legs. I find that I lose inches and weight faster if I mix cardio and weights. It also helps for toning this flabby body and can totally change your body composition. Keep up the good work and see if you can incorporate weights (even starting weight free weights for arms).

You can do it! I really like the first and the last outfit for NY's eve, especially if you are going to a bar. They are a little more risque. ;)

As for me ladies, I've been working out, but don't think I've lost much more weight. I started my period a few days ago and feel bloated. I'll check in at the gym later today and keep you updated. I really wanted to get under 200 for the new year.....still hope. :)

I started my weight training last week and the scale did not move but I know that I'm doing the right thing. I did lunges and squats and pushups and situps, bicep curls and dead lifts. I need to do some research and find some knew exercises to do with the free weights. Where do you get your exercises from? I used to have a trainer but I can't really afford one right now.

Fatness 12-12-2012 02:33 AM

The scale does not move when weight lifting! Lol crazy right! I am also doing the same thing.. Might be a while before I see 189.. Lol doing weight lifting 2 days a week. But I do butt workouts every day! Lol...

How are you ladies? I been busy with school! It's my last week and I don't know what I will do with my time!

I used to be a personal trainer, so I know about different exercises to do in the gym from that. You can do a google search for free weight exercises and you will come up with a lot of information. There are also youtube videos on how to perform certain exercises if you need a visual. Lunges, squats are great for a most of the core body parts. Squats especially really tend to work the butt and legs. Watch how you lift with dead lifts..you can easily screw up your back. Keep at it because sometimes as you gain muscle you don't see the scale move as fast at first. You will notice your clothes fitting better though as you lose inches. I've been back full time at the gym for about two months after a two month break and I'm just starting to see the difference again with tighter muscles and losing inches. The scale isn't moving as fast though , but I'm not worried as much. Keep it up!

I just finished a big workout tonight of squats, arms (shoulders, triceps and biceps). I've started running intervals as well..so I walk for two minutes and then run two minutes.

The scale will eventually move. I'd recommend doing at least three times a week with weights and you'll notice the difference faster. As you gain lean muscle mass, your body is burning calories at a faster rate even if you are at rest. The more muscle you have, the faster you burn calories afterwards. Keep it up!

I'm well thanks..trying to get under 200 for the New Year. :carrot:
Did you pick a dress yet? :)

Thanks for the tips Jojo! I found some exercises online that I'm going to try tonight. I also love feeling a little sore after my workouts...it sounds crazy but I know my body is changing and that makes me happy. Since you say that it will take a little longer to see the scale move, maybe I should take some time off from my weigh ins? If I continue eating right and exercising, the scale will eventually reflect all my hard work. No sense getting bent out of shape about it beforehand. Maybe I'll try not to weigh in until NYE?

So much for not getting on the scale until NYE...ugh...I got on this morning. NO PROGRESS. Super frustrating. I'm going to assume that it's going to take my body some time to catch up and I'm just going to keep on doing what I'm doing.

I hope you ladies are having a great day! My office holiday party is today and I'm really looking forward to that.

I LOVE the first dress! I've also been shopping for NYE dress (I only wear dresses on NYE and my BD). haven't found the one yet, but I wanna look smokin'!

hope you have fun at your party! my scale is moving so slowly this month (I'm at 209). it is very very frustrating :( but I just have to tell myself it will move, even if it's taking longer than I wanted.

I also want to look nice for NYE , so if you know any good sites pls list them so I can check them out!

Also I want to wear heels, I can wear no more then 5". So, if you ladies know any sites with sexy heels in the 5" range list the site pls!

I'm supposed to go to the gym tonight but it's not going to happen because my parents are coming to town. I'm going to have to do some crazy last minute cleaning to get ready for them. Fingers crossed.

Tomorrow ends my scale break! I will be weighing in again on Friday post-workout.
CW: 225
GW for Friday: 221

ChickieBoom 12-17-2012 11:21 AM

Happy Monday everyone...so I got on the scale this morning and the needle was just under 200. I'm not going to claim that number until I see it again tomorrow morning but I'm thrilled that my weightlifting seems to be working.

I have my gym bag with me and I plan to do a vigorous workout tonight. I actually downloaded this awesome free app for my iphone that has free daily workouts. I've never tried some of these things before.

jrkessle 12-17-2012 10:27 PM

I was 222.4 when I woke up this morning. Hoping for 221 tomorrow post-workout!

222 this morning! Worked out this morning too, but had lunch with my mom and didn't have a chance to weigh-in post workout. Excited to weigh-in tomorrow, and planning a long workout to hopefully be in 220.5 post-workout! Goal is 219 by friday!

ChickieBoom 12-18-2012 02:29 PM

I did one of the Brazil Butt Lift Masters videos yesterday and it was amazing. It was a really good sculpting video that used an exercise ball. Just what I'm looking for. I'm going to order mine today.

That sounds nice, I must try it.

ChickieBoom 12-19-2012 09:48 AM

It was a nice change Fatness. Something different to do that was fun. I don't know what I'm going to do today. I'm going to workout during my lunch break. Probably more squats and lunges and whatever else I can think of.

ChickieBoom 12-20-2012 04:35 PM

Ok...so last minute work stuff and Christmas stuff has kept me out of the gym the last couple of days. This is exactly why I should get my workouts done first thing in the morning. No matter. I'm two pounds away from my Onederland by NYE goal! I'd love to make it to Onederland by my weigh in on Saturday morning but I'm trying not to be unreasonable.

jrkessle 12-21-2012 12:17 AM

Weighing in post-workout tomorrow! Goal is 221!

you are so freaking close!

I weighed in at 205, which isn't where I wanted to be (I was hoping for 203). I just started doing zumba, and it is awesome. sure, I don't actually look like I'm doing the zumba avatars dance moves, but I have fun and I sweat :)

Good luck! I'm like chickieboom, I also weigh myself right in the morning bc that tends to be my lowest weight throughout the day.

jrkessle 12-21-2012 02:52 PM

@ChickieBoom and @kisskiss: I weigh-in first thing in the morning, and again post-workout. post-workout is always my lowest of the day because I work out in the morning after breakfast. And weigh-in was 221.6 post-workout. sad that that extra 0.6 is there :( really wanted to be 221... so mixed feelings today. mostly disappointed :/

Very interesting! It never even occurred to me to weigh myself after a workout but I might just try that.

KissKiss - You have come so far! Congratulations on all your hard work!

@Fatness - I'm sure you will! You've been rocking it for the last couple months. We're all so proud of you :)

I'm bringing broccoli and a fruit salad to Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow night to avoid the cookies and cakes and goodies! Hoping that will help stay on point and steer clear of all the bad stuff.
