  • Took a 2 mile walk this morning when I got up, so I finally made it to the birch grove for a frugal supper.
  • I'm in! Making something nerdy is always a way to get me motivated.
  • Morgan, Welcome!! I'm glad that you'll be joining the fellowship! This is a difficult task, as you can see...many people have come and gone! But I have faith in you!
  • I got 4 miles in at the gym this morning. I'm also hoping from another 2.5 when I get home from work. I can then make it to the first camp. LOL. Hooray.

I had to look up what cloven (split or divided in two) meant.

I've also made it to the Stock Road.
  • Hooray. I got some really wonderful mileage in yesterday. I took a 2 mile walk when I got home yesterday and this morning I spent 1.5 hours at the gym.

    I've made it past camp:

Now I'm on some hilly roads... My favorite -_-
  • I got an additional 5 miles in. However, it doesn't look like I will be getting any more today. Apparently we are having a blizzard. Ooooh...and big news! I saw my first Black Rider.

I look forward to getting in another 6 miles so that I can travel with the elves!
  • I've heard of this before... it sounds like fun I'm going to use it to keep track of my running mileage from now on. I've read the books a dozen times but it's been years since I've read them last.
  • Welcome, Aunty Jam! You are such an inspiration. I hope someday to be able to run!

I got another two miles in this morning. My REAL 2 mile neighborhood walk looks like this: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/100-...e-us-walk.html
  • Up to 35 miles now. Looks like I'm staying off the road now. Black Riders are scary!
  • I know I'm so very far behind, but I was wondering if I might join the "fellowship" anyway? Lunar told me about this, and I know I have a pedometer somewhere in this hobbit hole of mine, lol. I should be able to strike out soon! As long as it's not pouring buckets, I was actually hoping to take another walk tomorrow and see how these new shoes I got will work out.

One important question, though. Now that I'm hobbiting it up in the Shire, does this mean I don't have to shave my legs this week?
  • Welcome, friend!! Did you get any walking in today? I got in 6 miles at the gym, which puts me....at the Elves arriving! YAY! <#
  • Soooo... I'm a little behind on starting, but here we go! I've logged over 120 miles since January, but I want to start fresh with this challenge so I'm going to start with my miles so far this week!

    4.1 mile walk Monday
1.0 miles on my elliptistrider (a mix between a stair master and an elliptical so it clocks in flights as well as miles...)

I've crossed The Great Road from the Brandywine Bridge and entered Tookland!

"I know we are going to take a very long road, into darkness; but I know I can't turn back. It isn't to see Elves now, nor dragons, nor mountains, that I want [...] but I have something to do before the end, and it lies ahead, not in the Shire."
~ Samwise Gamgee, Book I Chapter 4: A Shortcut to Mushrooms

On the morning of September 25, Frodo, Sam, and Pippin scrambled down from the heights of the Woody End into a tangled, thicket-filled valley cut by the Stock-brook. [1] They followed the course of the small river, staying on the north bank as it was too wide to cross, until it brought them out into the wide flat-lands of the Marish under overcast skies threatening rain.

I found this cute blog, and I would like to start reading the books:
