100% To Thanksgiving Challenge!

Hi all!

I just checked and it is 14 weeks to Thanksgiving or 98 days. I want to lose as much as possible before then cuz it is harder to lose during the holiday season.

Anyone up for it? Let blast the next few months and make it happen!

Sno

littlebumblebee 08-15-2012 06:25 PM

Hi Sno
Count me in, I enjoy a good challenge to help keep me on track.

kelly315 08-15-2012 06:28 PM

I would love the challenge! By thanksgiving I should be much closer to Onederland!!

Snowbrocade 08-15-2012 11:54 PM

Most Excellent

Oh great--welcome ladies!!

we can do it!

mothermavis 08-16-2012 06:12 AM

I'm in. I keep saying I'm going to get back on track, but I haven't done anything about it. Someday starts today. :carrot:

Snowbrocade 08-16-2012 11:26 AM

Countdown to Thanksgiving 98 days!

Hi all!

day two of the challenge and all is well on my front--I am determined to stay on focus and change my habits.

I love Mother's quote--choose your hard! Right now I choose the diet hard! I can do it! You can do it! Remember it is each baby step that adds up to the result.

Cheers

sno

tyla 08-16-2012 12:25 PM

I'm in also. This is day 2 for me, too. Thanks for doing this, Sno.

Mountain Mamma 08-16-2012 02:49 PM

You're right, once the holidays are upon us temptation abounds.

I don't do challenges . . . but strongly tempted by this one! What are the rules?

Ladybug10 08-16-2012 03:01 PM

I would love to join! The holidays are always rough on me and I usually gain during that time. I don't want that to happen this year. If I stay mostly on plan, I should be pretty close or right at my goal weight. I hope everyone is having a great day. :)

littlebumblebee 08-16-2012 06:08 PM

Today is day 2 of the challenge for me. I am OP for the day.

Snowbrocade 08-16-2012 10:10 PM

Fabulous tyla and bumblebee-day 2 rocks! and tx for the will power dust!!

Mamma--I want to make this a serene challenge where we cheer each other on rather than worry about rules. I do think the more we check in, the more we lose. How about rule number 1--dont beat ourselves up about our weight! (preferably no beating at all) maybe as the time gets closer we can strategize together on ways to handle the holidays.

Ladybug--welcome!

Snow, that's good news - I'm glad it's low pressure, just support - good for us s l o w losers! Thanks for doing this - Thanksgiving may not seem a goal for some, but for me, when the days get shorter my appetite gets larger! Hoping this will help keep the focus!!

Lishar 08-17-2012 09:51 AM

I think this is a good challenge. I have been doing this weight loss/healthier living for about 3 wks now. I just upped my calories to 1500 because of my exercise schedule. The last 2 I was just beat and took a nap. It's not productive to exercise then lay on the couch all day after.

Do you want weekly weigh in's? That way we can see progress. I think it would help me. I enjoy working towards a goal. Not sure how much I will loose but 30lbs would be nice. Moving towards onderland and 50 would do it. I don't think I will loose 50lbs In 3 months :)

littlebumblebee 08-17-2012 11:03 AM

Checking in, day 3!

Sno
That is a excellent rule, that we do not beat ourselves up, if we feel we made a mistake. It is important that we continue to move forward, and to reach our goals.

Ladybug10 08-17-2012 12:15 PM

Yesterday I was a little off on my eating. Not too bad but I had sudden cravings for something really sweet and something salty. I had some ice cream and then right after a small bag of cheetos and a slice of pizza. My weight this morning was 133 which I think is great. Like the rule said, I'm not going to beat myself up about the random indulgence. I'll just eat on plan today. At least now, the cravings are gone. :)

Snowbrocade 08-17-2012 12:58 PM

Day 3 of challenge, 97 days left

Hi all!

doing well and staying on track--need to eat more veggies tho I think. that will be my goal for the weekend to eat more veg.

Mamma: right--I am a slo loser and a fast gainer. for me I see this as a way of being accountable and noting the passage of time. when I am off plan I tend to put off losing weight and then time flies and before I know it I have gained a lot. If that makes sense.

Lishar: how do you see a weekly weight in going? let me know what works for you. also I have heard that rest is just as important as working out for weight loss. I know I get very tired sometimes after working out and I figure my body is telling me something. I will rest and then set a goal for doing something for a half hour or so--if I then am still tired then I go with it and rest. I think cutting calories also makes me tired at first. Oh one more thing--supplements can really help--I take CoQ10 and omega three and that helps with energy. sorry for the long response.

Ladybug--I know I get the same thing with sweet and salty. good for you for not beating yourself up.

In my case I think it is a matter of teaching myself that I can satisfy those cravings with healthy choices. Like learning to do something for the long term? Otherwise I am eating Cheetos or chips or crackers every day, all day--not so great for healthy eating let alone weight loss. I have a bag of trader joes airpopped popcorn for the salty thing and usually I can get by with a handful or two of that to satisfy the craving. then I use fruit for sweet--the fruit is awesome in the summer and very satisfying.

I know I get freaked out by thinking that I cant have the foods I love so the way I think about it is that I can have those foods occasionally and in small portions.

anyway I am verbose this morning!! sorry to go on.

have a great day all.

Sno

tyla 08-17-2012 04:30 PM

Day 3 here. :) TGIF, Everyone! Let's keep at it.

Sno, I'm trying to teach myself to eat healthier, too. This morning I went to a networking breakfast with a group of people. I was proud of myself for choosing an egg white omlette. I ate it and didn't eat the rest on my plate. It helps to know that others are trying to make better food choices, too. Good luck to you! :goodluck:

Little BB, so far I've been sugar-free for a few days. Congrats to you for being sugar-free for 2 or 3 weeks!

Lishar 08-17-2012 05:24 PM

Sno no worries I get a little chatty at times myself. maybe on our first post we edit and put the weeks and the our weights. Might not work but I like to see a trend especially going down.

Tyla good for you. What are you doing to be sugar free. No processed sugar?

I think I need to buy. New scale. This morning I weighed myself eary because DH was leaving on a trip. I weighed myself again at my normal time before breakfast. There was a difference of 1.5lbs. I rechecked it 3 times and got 3 different numbers 246/247/246.5 but earlier it was 248. Sigh I don't think my had 1.5pounds of pee :o.

Not as tired today. I had a good Zumba workout. My heart rate monitor showed that my HR average was 139 for the whole hour. I love that the treadmill reads my chest strap very cool.

tyla 08-17-2012 06:13 PM

Lishar, just trying not to eat anything with sugar. I've read there's less cravings being sugar-free. So far, so good. But I've only been at this a couple of days. By the way, I love Zumba! Good job! I also hate my scale. I get really discouraged because of it sometimes, so I'm trying to stay off of it for a while. Just trying better choices and exercising. ;)

Lishar 08-17-2012 07:12 PM

I did end up taking a nap because I could. :o I started with Zumba gold which is for older and out of shape people. Out of shape thats me. I did do better this time (2nd class). I plan on taking a walk tonight when it cools off a bit.

I have been off sugar for about 2.5 weeks. Around when I gave up coffee. The creamer I used was taking up so many calories I just quit. I gave up diet coke when I started drinking so much water and was just not tired. This was HUGE because I was drinking 3-4 cups of coffee and 5-6 diet coke a day (not counting the XL at mcd almost every day). So no caffeine or processed sugar since.

Mountain Mamma 08-17-2012 10:51 PM

Got back to the gym today after several weeks' absence due to vacation/ reunion / company. I HATE getting over that inertia to get moving again!

tyla 08-18-2012 06:49 AM

Wow, this is day 4 for me. :) Love this challenge!

Lishar, very impressive that you not only are you sugar-free, but caffeine- free as well!! I also gave up diet drinks, but coffee is a hard one for me to quit. Kudos to you!!

MountainMama, I know what you mean about getting started again with exercise. Luckily, it does get better. The heat this year has really made it hard for me to get started and get thru it at times, but it has gotten a little easier if I do it earlier in the day.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

My Michelle 08-18-2012 09:16 AM

Hi all, I'd love to join this challenge, my other challenge thread is kinda quiet and I love to see all the happy progress!

My goal is to weigh every day, no exceptions, and stay binge-free! Today is day 4 for me!

Lishar 08-18-2012 11:51 AM

I guess my scale was right :) 245today. 20 lbs lost in 3 wks. Not bad. I want to be in in the 2teens by thanksgiving. I wonder what size I will be for christmas. My mom lost a lot of weight a few years ago and gave me all of her size 14 outfits. I am looking forward to all those size 14 pants. :). Eventually I would love to be a size 12. That was my wedding dress .

Here is a possible way to track our weight loss until thanksgiving.

Snowbrocade: You're right about satisfying the cravings with healthy choices. It was a one day uh-oh. I'm usually pretty good with deciding on better foods but its TOM so my cravings and urges are messed up. :dizzy:

Lishar: I have two scales. The older one may need a new battery because it fluctuates so much in the matter of seconds. I usually stay with the newer scale for accurate numbers. One just happens to be at my mom's place and the other at my dads so when I get curious, I get on whichever scale is more convenient. What kind of heart rate monitor do you have if you don't mind me asking? I was interested in getting one.

Mountain Mamma: I need to get back in the gym as well. Vacations always throw me off routine.

Nothing really new for me. Ate well yesterday which I am happy about. Went grocery shopping today and may try out a tofu recipe that my boyfriend gave me. Getting ready for nursing school to start back up again. Totally dreading it since I've been enjoying my sleep. Hope everyone is having a great day! Keep up the good work. :)

Snowbrocade 08-18-2012 03:31 PM

Day 4

Hi all!

I made a huge salad yesterday with lotsa good stuff in it so I am making a good start on the more veggies thing. There are a lot of tomatoes getting ripe all at once in my garden--wish I could share them with you all--they are so good! cucumbers are tiny but will be ready soon.

Really hot around here--I am looking at air conditioners on Craigslist.

tyla--good for you--egg whites, yum!?

lishar; wow no caffeine--good one. and omg 19 lbs!! that may be part of the reason you are sleepy too--just getting used to no stimulants. I started drinking black coffee on Aug 1--I love half-half and it was way too many calores. when I first started drinking coffee I took it black. it has been almost 30 years since I started taking cream--bad habit! I am proud that I am drinking it black and I actually like it. I still want my caffeine tho.

Mamma: congrats for getting started to the gym!! :cheer2: I set small goals with incremental increases when I am trying to start exercise. like I walk everyday with my dog and I started with 5 minutes thinking I could always do that. then I increased 5 minutes a month and now I am up to 30 minutes. I always give myself the option to do only 5 minutes to get my butt out the door but I end up doing the whole thing once I get started.

Michelle: welcome welcome--I like your goals they are very healthy. I know I weigh everyday to keep in touch with how my eating affects me.

Have a wonderful 100% day all!

PS--Lishar I love size 14--it is a great size where I can find lotsa cute stuff to fit me. I was size 12 4 years ago and it was awesome but 14 would be great. I cant wait to get outta plus size. looks like you and I are really close in weight and our goals!

SunnySide99 08-18-2012 04:40 PM

Count me in!

I've never done challenges before joining this website, but it has really kept me focused and staying on track. I am realistic about things and don't aim overly high, but I am seeing major results.

In my situation I'm 1 lb away from losing 25 lbs and reaching my second goal of getting out of the 230's. My goal for this challenge is continue eating better, workout everyday and to lose another 25 lbs by Thanksgiving. It will bring me 3 lbs away from being in the 100's!!!!! I have not seen that weight since high school but I hope this is realistic. I'm surely going to try my best! :)

Mountain Mamma 08-18-2012 05:46 PM

SunnySide,

Welcome. Glad you joined us! I like that Sno set it up that we're all setting individual goals. (I'm trying to workout more, too.)

Just one more pound & we'll all celebrate your 25 lb goal!

tyla 08-18-2012 10:35 PM

Just wanted to report that I made it through Saturday. I don't know why I was tempted to keep eating today, but I was! Somehow I got enough strength to get away from the food. This is a big deal for me. Once I go down the wrong path, it's hard for me to stop. I stopped! :yay: :yay:

My Michelle 08-19-2012 09:45 AM

Good job not eating, Tyla! I'm like you, I have to cut it off completely, or I get out of control fast. I know how hard it is to STOP, and you DID IT! Way to go!

Ah, the weekend is almost over! Weekends are always so hard. Today is binge-free day 5 for me, and my food has been perfectly on plan. Every time I'm tempted to go crazy I keep thinking how I don't want to keep starting over again and again, and how much better I'll feel about myself come the holidays if I've been practicing control and being good to my body!

Ladybug10 08-19-2012 10:12 AM

Way to go tyla and My Michelle!

Welcome SunnySide!

I'm happy to report that I stayed on plan yesterday and saw a slight drop in my weight today. I was very tempted for a midnight snack more out of boredom since I couldn't sleep than hunger. Glad I didn't cave in. Have an awesome Sunday everyone. :)

tyla 08-19-2012 12:07 PM

This is day 5 for me! :woohoo:

My Michelle and Ladybug, we did it! We didn't cave in to food like we wanted. I think this is a big deal for all of us! Now that we made it thru this hurdle, we have momentum to stay strong. Bravo to us all! :bravo:

Lishar 08-19-2012 12:20 PM

Ladybug congrats for staying on plan? When I want a snack I have been having a few carrots or a couple fat free pretzels. That curbs the craving and is not really bad for me.

I am a nurse. How long until your done?

My Michelle congrats on staying on plan and fighting those urges. I am a bit worried about the holdays too. All those yummy cookies. I can not have just one. :o

Tyla good job. I have a few things I need to stay away from. Twizzlers is my big one. I will eat a whole big bag. Over 1000 calories. Now I know why I am so fat :dizzy:

Sunnyside welcome and I hope you get the 25 lost soon.

Sno I would rather not drink coffee than drink it black. I will be curious how my weight I will have to loose to fit those 14 pants. Now I am between 22 and 20. I put my 2x shirts away hoping to fit them soon. :)

I have been having spinach salads almost everyday. I am jealous about your tomatoes. Mine never flowered because it was so cold until August. Now there is not enough time.

Well I am down another pound.:carrot::carrot:. I did not exercise as much as we stayed home. I finally cleaned our room. DH is away this weekend so I thought this is a good time. 2 garbage bags later I see improvement. DD exclaimed in our bathroom "I did not know there are 2 sinks in here". Very sad I know. DH keeps books and put the on the counter.

I did get an hour on wii fit adv step. I watched a movies and stepped. I got my fitbit yesterday. It showed the same calories burned that my heart monitor did. That's nice to know that its accurate when I am walking. My heart rate stayed in the low 120's.

I have noticed better weight loss now that I have increased my calories from 1200 to 1500/day. It's nice to have that wiggle room.

littlebumblebee 08-19-2012 12:42 PM

Checking in, I am staying OP!

Mountain Mamma 08-19-2012 02:38 PM

Lishar, gotta love the husband with the sense of humor, over the 2 sinks in the bathroom. Am staring at my own undone chores right now . . .

Wow, good job staying away from the goodies Tyla & Michelle & Lishar. We recently had company & I've kept up my bad habit of nibbling. :rollpin: My excuse is I haven't seen chips in so long I didn't recognize them! But had a long walk today & promise to get back OP now.

Snowbrocade 08-19-2012 04:14 PM

Quick check in--I am keeping it going!

Lishar 08-19-2012 09:07 PM

Wow I had a great walk today with my dog and kids. The kids brought their scooters. I ended up carrying the little one's 3/4 of the way. My dog kept me at a good pace. We walked 3.5 miles in a little under 2 hours. That includes the little break we had to eat a snack. I was dragging them back to the car. I am not sure if I could have walked that far a month ago. It felt great.

Ladybug10 08-19-2012 09:27 PM

tyla: Thank you so much for the encouragement! :)

Lishar: I will be done October 2013. Counting down every last second. I love my classes but sometimes they can be tough. I'm going back for my second level classes this fall which includes mental health and medical/surgical nursing. What department did you end up choosing to work in if I may ask? I always love speaking to nurses about their careers. Congrats on being down another pound!!

Mountain Mamma: Chips are one of my (many) downfalls. lol. I can never stop at one.

littlebumblebee and Snowbrocade: keep up the great work!

My Michelle 08-20-2012 07:42 AM

Mountain Momma - ahhh, chips. My personal nemesis! They are evil.

Lishar - I love fresh spinach, expecially baby spinach and I put it in everything!

Ladybug - Good job on passing on the boredom snack, that's so hard to do!

I'm glad it's Monday, Day 6 Perfectly-On-Plan for me. Yay!

Ladybug10 08-20-2012 09:45 AM

Quick check-in. Stayed on plan yesterday. Hoping everyone has a wonderful week!
