July 31st goal: 260
Omgoodness... I have definitely gotten out of practice in the exercise area. I tried to roll over in bed this morning to nurse my daughter and I yelped from all my soreness. lol It actually hurts to sit down lol. I lost 3 pounds in one day... is that even possible? I did start the SlimFast 321 diet yesterday and the home exercise trainer thingy on freetrainers.com. It took me, in my opinion, way to long to finish the exercises, but I've only just begun! Yay me!

:running:

Forging onward...... I am afraid to weigh myself for fear of being disappointed. You would think I would learn my lesson after last week, so I will be patient and wait until weigh in day which for me is Saturday.

Echo 07-13-2010 11:33 AM

i read an article about weight loss today and in it they mentioned the benefits of daily weigh ins, below is the excerpt, and if you want to read the full article, here is the link:

http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?p...th_weight_loss

i personally am a firm believer in daily weigh ins. for me personally it helps to keep me on plan on a daily basis, as i know i have to face the scale the very next morning. but i also understand that there will be normal fluctuations.
Quote:

Dr. Binks first learned about daily weighing while working with Dr. Patrick M. O'Neil of the Medical University of South Carolina, a leading obesity researcher. There he discovered how to help people, to learn how to measure weight both frequently and appropriately.

"The reason that it's so controversial is that people beat themselves up about the number on the scale," he says.

What he recommends is pulling out a piece of graph paper or using an online program and creating a longer-term view on paper. This way you will learn to stop reacting to the daily fluctuations," and instead pay attention to the overall trends. It's OK to notice the fluctuations but don't see each one as a success or failure. Just look at how the line trends over the course of each month.

If people are willing each morning to "stand on the scale and put the dot on the graph, they might be a little more likely to make a healthy choice for breakfast or take a walk."

In other words, once again, small steps add up.

He also says: "There's a side that we never talk about, but when people have a really good number on the scale, it's sometimes seen as permission to go off the plan." Attending to long-term trends on the graph eliminates this, too.

Advocating such daily weigh-ins might have at times had some patients and colleagues wanting to "run me outta town" but Dr. Binks says that this method can--and has--taken the power away from the scale for countless people he has worked with over the years.

Weighing every week or two weeks and not knowing what number will appear is like playing Wheel of Fortune. Will it land on jackpot—a weight loss--or bankrupt—a weight gain?

Weighing daily and graphing it "keeps you aware of the long-term impact your overall plan has on your longer-term goals and keeps you from going off the program."

Morning is the logical time to do it, but weigh-ins can happen any time of day, as long as it's the same time each day.

"It helps you to teach yourself that the number is a variable, that it's not carved in stone," he says. "One day it's down, the next day it's going to spike up. It's a way to keep reminding yourself that it's just a number, one data point of the many you might track."

Even if a person sticks with the plan, daily numbers will rise and fall. Daily weighing proves that those fluctuations are normal, and by allowing a healthy weight range--say, a few pounds up or down--it allows someone to relax as long as it's within your typical ranges and the overall trend is downward.

If it's not trending down, then "maybe it's time to start monitoring and measuring and tightening up your plan a little."

- happy to see the scale is going down! last night, i was hungry, and really wanted bread with aubergine curry, but i resisted! so i just had aubergine curry with yogurt. as i know that if you eat food that will release insulin before bedtime, than you lose those hours during sleep when your body is burning fat. so seeing the scale go down this morning, reinforces that i made the right decision, even though it was hard! :)

ninepaw 07-13-2010 01:54 PM

Thanks for the article, Echo! :D I'm big on my daily weigh ins, too. Keeps me accountable on a daily basis, all that good stuff! hat just reaffirmed my belief that I'm doing the right thing for me. ;)

He said, "I never realized you were that big. Umm, not that you're that big now. What I meant was..." lol... I tried to sit there with a grumpy face as long as I could to see how long he would keep going, but the giggles just poured out lol

lol... He's such a goofball... Last night I asked him to make me a glass of chocolate milk (I was nursing baby) and he got it for me then realized I had asked him to help me stay on track at night... so then trying to be helpful... he held it away and said, "This is for your own good. You wanted me to help." Then I threatened him within an inch of his life that if I didn't have something chocolate before I went to bed... He wasn't getting anything before bed and that he may not LIVE til bedtime (I've been really moody lately, thinking about taking another pregnancy test.) I got my chocolate milk lol... I have been working so hard and I just needed a little bit of chocolate... they were eating smores... so I compromised... Nesquick lol

Lippy - I have been moody lately too, and I am not nursing anyone...I used to be so exhausted when I was nursing (I ended up doing it the hard way with my twins...I pumped then gave my girls the bottle).
I am glad that their were not any smorse in our house last night, I might not have been able to make as good of a compromise as you did.

Our month is almost over!!! How is everyone holding in there? Are we at least close to our goals?

Today I weighed in at 236... My goal weight for the end of this month is 235. Now, I've known my weight to drop off overnight and(shockingly) actually stay that way, so I'm holding out a little hope that maybe, juuuust maybe, I'll actually meet my goal! If not, that's alright too. ;) One pound off is pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!

1lb is really close.

 I met my goal for July, I am looking foward to the August challenge.

Well I haven't met my July goal, but am only 2 lbs away. Course weekends of camping and the bf bringing home pizza and KFC I am sure has set me back a little. I still figure 8 lbs in one month isnt too bad. Still determined to do better in August! I will weigh in for official August start Sunday morning and do measurements again. Just doing those once a month.

Great job, Envelope! :D You kicked some serious butt!

Peaches, 8 pounds in a month is still REALLY great! Certainly still a loss you can be proud of! Of course, ANY loss is one to be proud of! ;)

Unless someone beats me to it, I'll probably start a thread for August tomorrow sometime. Be thinking about those goals! :D I'm so ready to hit this next month out of the park!
