May Wii Challenge!
Fun challenge for Wii users!
Set a goal for the month of May on how many minutes you want to spend on your Wii workouts! Log your workouts each day (what workout & how long) and at the end of the month we'll see how we did! I'll even send everyone who completes this a little surprise at the end of the month! :) How's that for motivation!? Also, use this thread to discuss your Wii workouts, or whatever! I'm Danielle. I have 20 pounds left to lose. I'm hoping to lose 10 of those pounds by June 12 when I have a wedding to go to. I want to buy a new sexy dress as a reward for the occasion!
My goal is 930 minutes. I chose this because at 30 minutes a day, 31 days in the month, it's 930 minutes. Some days I have rest days, but I also know a lot of days I do more than 30 minutes, so I don't think this goal will be too hard to achieve. |
Hi, I'm Wendi! This sounds fun. I'm newly back after disappearing for quite some time. I've been lurking for a couple weeks now, but this has pulled me out =)
I'm going to make my goal 600 minutes. That would be 30 min a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. I'm hoping I'll actually have time to go to the gym too, so I may log some gym time on my wiifit too, if that's kosher ;-p I also have a wedding to go to in June, June 14th. And it's on a cruise, so not only do I have the dress to freak out about, but there's also going to be beaches afterward >.< In my most optimistic dreams I could lose 15 Lb between now and then, but I'll be happy simply with being less than I am now. |
That's fun we both have weddings the same week in June! We can do it!!! :)

OOOh, I like this idea. I need motivation to get the Wii out and use it. I only have access to it three nights a week while at work but whole weeks go by and I never get it out once. And I always LOVE it when I do.
I have this weekend off work but I'm going to commit to 30 minutes a night Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights for the rest of May. And I'm going to do the yoga and the exercise ones at least 15 minutes and not just the fun balance things I love. Thanks so much for starting this challenge! |
Hi! I'm Marcia! Would love to join you. I don't really have a goal, but I use the Wii about 3 times a week. I'll be using Just Dance for my workouts. So far I've lost 12 lbs with it. Maybe this will motivate me to step it up a notch! Can't wait to see how much I lose over the month of May!

Vlad, I do the same thing. I'll go weeks without getting it out, but I LOVE it when I do. I don't understand myself! :P I like your ticker too, I'm going to have to make one of those! |
I use other games in addition to my wii fit plus but I like this idea. I also go to a yoga studio for classes so its not my only exercise but I like having it as an option. I'm going to commit to 30 minutes 3 times a week or 300 minutes. My piggy is close to turning bronze too, so that will be fun.

It's for logging any Wii game! Right now I have Wii Fit Plus, EA Active, & Gold's Cardio Boxing. I'd like to check out the dancing game though...hmm. |
So, using my wiifit to weigh myself this morning, I got a perfect 50/50 balance! That has to be the first time I've ever done that =) for some reason I'm always on my left side just a tad more, 50.5/49.5 or something silly like that.
Since my 'real' scale broke I'm just using it to weigh myself, and check out my progress chart, but I'll start logging minutes on Saturday. |
For right now I'll say 120 minutes for the month of May. That's 30 minutes one night a week :) I have fun with the Wii Dance and it's a great workout. But I've got other workout videos I bought so I better start using them! lol

Nice Wendi! I've never gotten a 50/50! And I've had Wii Fit since it first came out. I'm impressed! :) I think I've gotten a 49/51 though.

I'd like to join. My name is Allison. I need a reason to use my wii more often. We spend all this money on them and then they just sit there. I have Just Dance, Wii fit plus and Golds Gym Cardio Boxing. I'm gonna say 300 minutes.

Ok... decided it isn't much of a challange if I don't set an goal. I am going for 25 Mins (or 5 songs) 3 days a week. ^_^ I'm also going to start my suppliments on Saturday so I'm very excited!!!

I am taking Capsaicen (sp) and green tea. I just hope it works for me like it did for my friend. She almost doubled her average lbs lost. I will take 4lbs a week over 2 any day!

My balance board was clearly trying to sabotage me this evening. There I was, less than a minute away from completing a fantastic advanced step on wiifit, and all of the sudden miss, miss, miss. I begin to wonder where I've gone wrong, I seem to be on the beat, I think I'm on the beat, am I on the beat?!?
The batteries died, killing my score. Granted, it has been telling me for almost a week now that the batteries were nearly dead, but I still feel betrayed. Sidenote: 20 min tonight, but I won't really start counting until Saturday. |
I have a wii but don't have many active games other than the sport it came with, which are not terribly active at all. What would people reccommend? Obviously wii fit is good. It is kind of expensive after all the equipment though. Is there anything you don't have to buy the balance board for?

Wendi- I've had that happen to me before! So I bought the rechargeable battery pack, but after a little while of having that, it stopped charging! That was annoying. It still won't charge, but it comes with the cord that just plugs into the back of the Wii console, so I just plug it in and don't waste any batteries. Also don't have to worry about it dying on me! :)
Jessica- My favorite non-board game is Gold's Cardio Gym. I LOVE it. It has some activities you can do with the board if you want to (I never use any of it. It's just extra stuff they added in.) , but all the cardio boxing is just two Wii remotes. Great workout & fun! |
As far as I know, all the dancing games are board-free

Welcome Tonyia! Never too late! :) I started gamefly again for a month to try out some new workout games before I buy anything. I tried to get Just Dance first, but it's availability wasn't very high. On their way to me (should get them Monday) are "Yoga: The First 100% Experience" and "Daisy Fuentes Pilates". Yoga didn't get very good reviews on gamefly, but I've been wanting to try it since it came out, so I figured I'd try it anyway to see what's up. Pilates didn't get great reviews either, but again, I wanted to try it. I didn't mean to get two not-so-great games at once. I was hoping Just Dance would have been available. Off to do my workout! |
I'm one day late - hopefully that's okay. This seems like just the motivation I need. Now all I need to do is dust off my balance board (hopefully I can find it).
Hopefully I am not setting myself up to fail, but overshooting tends to do the trick for me. I am going for 1200 minutes for the month of May. Since it's very likely that this will be my only form of exercise for the month, I think it's achievable. Good luck everyone :) |

Vert- I have gamefly too, unfortunately my other seems to take control of it more often than I. Right now we have Heavy Rain (ok that one was for me) and God of War 3. I think next in line is bayonetta and Call of Duty.
No Wii time yesterday, apart from weighing myself, and probably none today, finals papers due this week. I should be able to bounce in with you guys on Monday though. I put WiiFit Plus and the wii DDR on my wedding registry, I'm crossing my fingers that someone will be cool enough to get one of those for me =D |

I had to go in to work today so I brought the Wii home. I earned 32 minutes on Wii Fit and unlocked the super hula hoop. (a couple months ago all the profiles on the Wii got erased so I've had to start over. The one I miss the most is the balance one wher eyou just sit and stare at the candle. I really liked that one and I haven't earned it back yet.)
The best part is, the balance board said I weighed 250 rather than the 255 of the scale at work. That made me very happy. |
Ok, so 300 seemed to be on the low side for me, so I upped it to 500. I did 70 minutes today bringing me to 110 minutes. I made a ticker for the challenge too. Wanted to do more tonight but my batteries in my balance board finally gave it up, have to get more tomorrow.

I would love to hear from folks who have the "Fit Plus" how it is different from the original "fit". I know it lets you build routines, which would be very nice, but how different is the selection of options. Are the yoga and strength sections basically the same? Are the aerobic and balance games the same? Similar? All new?

Vert-I have gamefly which I like. I've even traded in some games I don't play anymore. I have Biggest Loser and Endless Ocean right now. Not crazy about Biggest Loser. I belong to a yoga studio so I am pretty picky about my yoga. I tried that yoga video and didn't like it. Not crazy about the yoga on the wii fit either. The only yoga in video form that I have found that I like is on My Fitness Coach if anyone has that one. That is pretty close to the real thing-how you really do it in a class.
I like the Gold's gym video too-great work out. And whoever said the original sports video isn't good exercise-I don't know what you are doing on there but there are certainly some things you can do that are good exercise-tennis and boxing in particular. When I've played tennis on there I have been all over the living room-maybe I'm just a terrible tennis player:lol: But the boxing is a workout too-especially if you can get someone to play with you. There are also training exercises you can do and some of those are good workouts too. |

Every night around dinner time I have a small glass of red wine (4 or 5 oz, max). This is a new habit for me, part of my new healthy lifestyle. So tonight I had some wine while listening to the news. Then I did the dishes and broke out the Wii. oh my. I certainly don't feel like the wine had any effect on me however the balance game I love, where you make the balls fall through the holes... i couldn't finish even the beginner level and the advanced. Oh dear. So I switched over to "step" and scored the highest score for me ever (and this was despite having to step around the dog who decided he needed to bug me for attention mid routine. And then I tried the hula hoop, and once again scored the highest score for me ever. So I figure the wine ruins my balance but relaxes me enough that I don't over think the rest of the exercises. Still, I don't think I'll be Wii-ing in the early evening again. The balance games are frustrating enough as it is.... (i'm thinking I'll treat myself to Fit Plus next month if I meet my Wii goal this month.) |

Vlada- I had to start all mine over a few months ago when my ex got custody of our Wii, lol. I got a new one and wasn't even thinking that I'd have to do everything over again. burgundyrayne- Good job! 4 days in and you have 170/500 minutes!! petra65- I agree about sports. Boxing makes me sweat! I had a really bad start to month. :( So far I've only gotten 30 minutes in on Cardio Boxing. But I'm not worried, I'll make it up. In fact, I'm going to go work out right now! |

25 Minutes Daisy Fuentes Pilates My reviews for the two games I posted about renting: Daisy Fuentes Pilates: The moves are good, but the game itself is not. There is too much stopping and pushing buttons, it's hard to ever line up the exact way it wants you to. There's nothing that gives this game a benefit over a DVD. I love Pilates, I would rather just watch an exercise DVD. Not worth the money! Glad I just rented it and didn't buy it. I did a 25 minute workout on it anyway, but am sending it back tomorrow. Yoga: The First 100% Experience: AWFUL! I didn't last 5 minutes with this stupid thing. There's a "story mode" where you can learn all about yoga supposedly...what a waste. The only thing good are the soothing backdrops & other graphics. Again, would be a huge waste of money. Glad I didn't buy it like I wanted to when it came out. |
