Summer Bootcamp Series Sign Ups!

Summer is almost here! Whewww HOO! Last summer I participated in several bootcamp challenges. So, this year I thought I would "host" a bootcamp challenge series! :carrot:

First of all, I'm super excited :D for summer and the bootcamp series. Last summer I lost alot of weight using the "bootcamp" method!

Secondly, before siging up..... :drill: I want you to think about what bootcamp is and means. It is going to be hard! It is going to challenge you to rethink your ideas and believes about weight loss by restructuring your goals and plans to really push yourself. After all it is BOOTCAMP ...so get ready to get your :kickbutt:!

Finally.....I just wanted to tell you all a little about the challenges and what they will ask of you....

#1. Plan - :book2: pretty much just have a set plan (YES you can change the plan through out the challenge if it isn't working for you..) this plan can be weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Counting Calories, anything as long as you have an accountable way of watching what you eat! And keep a journal of your plan and your daily intake/accomplishments. :book2:

#2. :trampo: Put in a minimum number of exercise minutes per week. This number will probably be around a minimum of 300 minutes a week...but you decide if you do all the minutes in 3 days a week or do you spread it out over 6-7 days. :swim:

#3. :lifter: Your exercise must include some kind of bootcamp type workout....bootcamp dvd's (or similar workouts) are suggested. This is so that you will continually push yourself to the next level! :ebike:

#4. :beach: Challenge yourself on your water intake....we will set goals to increase water ounces through the month! :beach:

#5. :woohoo: Declutter your home - This is really important because it is hard to prepare healthy meals and lead a healthy life style if the kitchen is always dirty and there isn't anywhere to even sit down and eat a meal at! Flylady.net is a great place to get started with this! But this will be an on going thing throughout each month! (This will also include decluttering the pantry/fridge/freezer and throwing out junk food!) :woohoo:

#6. :cheer: Pamper/Groom ourselves - No matter what size you are.....you deserve to be treated like a queen and to look like a queen! Budgets do not matter here....you can do at home facials/manicures/pedicures/etc. with household items around kitchen! It is a proven fact that the better we look and feel about ourselves the better care we take of ourselves! :cheer:

#7. :dizzy: Each month pick another area of your life to work on that isn't affiliated with weight loss...it could be working out and sticking to a budget, spiritual, organization, relationships, job/career, school, etc! :dizzy:

#8. :yay: Motto/Mantra - Last summer each bootcamp required everyone to pick a motto/mantra to live by for the month...it was fun and motivating to see what people could come up with...and some were truely inspiring! So we will include this also! :yay:

#9. :write: Of course there will be goal setting...this probably should have been at the top...but every month we will start out putting down our weight/inches/etc....and list our goals for the month! We will weigh in weekly, and at the end of the month assess our accomplishments before moving on the the next month! :write:

#10. :balloons: Last but not least....everyone will be required to pick some kind of reward for meeting your goals at the end of the month. This will give you something to work toward! :bravo:

McKenziesmomma 04-26-2009 02:19 PM

Yes....as soon as the May thread is up (Thursday or Friday) go ahead and post all your start information and goal information for that month. Then just come in often and give and get support...

Also...we will have little things like maybe one week I will challenge everyone to find a new healthy recipe on the internet or something and share the link with everyone so we can all try it....this is a great way to get a ton of new recipes fast without having to do much looking! And there will be other things too!

I'm so excited to see so many people signing up....

For those of you who need help with a plan on getting and keeping the house clutter free....go to www.flylady.net

I love this woman! She has to be the most organized person I have ever heard of....LOL...not to mention smart!!! You can look around on that site and spend the next few days trying to get your journal together! You'll see what I mean when you get there

Good luck!

CakeBatter 04-26-2009 09:30 PM

i have checked out the site and I am on my way back there now. I am very excited about that. I have such a hard time being organized...thanks for the link.

Sunrose 04-26-2009 09:59 PM

Okay, I am definitely in, then. I'm excited!!! :woohoo:

tmil206 04-27-2009 01:14 AM

This sounds perfect. I really need to bump up the exercise. I would love to join!

econ nerd 04-27-2009 06:49 AM

I am interested but I will be having major abdominal surgery on June 30th so I will be out of commission for quite awhile into July (and maybe August). But being in for two months to really kick start me might be good... What do you think - should I jump in or sit on the sidelines cheering?? I won't be able to do much exercise wise for at leat two to four weeks post surgery.

Haley8203 04-27-2009 08:14 AM

i would like to participate, im not taking summer classes so i'll have more time to devote to my goals....my daughter will be home (she'll be 6 in september) but ill make sure i make time for my goals or i can include her in some things too!

hi everyone!

2behealthy 04-27-2009 08:47 AM

I wanna join up too! I'm new around here(so new that this is my first post) and this challenge is just what I need!

I think it would be okay...but just to be safe you may need to check with your doctor! ;)

JennyRaye 04-27-2009 09:21 AM

I'm in!

Can anyone recommend a good bootcamp workout dvd?

Jacque9999 04-27-2009 09:30 AM

I'm in....I already am on schedule to count calories and do pilates and cardio 2 days a week. Cardio and weight lifting 3 days a week and pilates alone on Saturdays. Sundays off...although yesterday I really felt like I wanted to do something but obviously my body had other plans...I was wiped out from the whole week and a busy weekend outside. Anyway...I also am starting a real boot camp May 19th so I am ready for any challenge!!!

McKenziesmomma 04-27-2009 09:36 AM

Are you getting ready???

Is everyone getting ready for the May bootcamp??

I just wanted to remind everyone that the May bootcamp thread will be going up probably no later than Thursday. This is so everyone will have time to log on and put down their start/goal information. Now be sure when you list your goal information it is only from month to month and not for the whole four months....cause your overall goal may change!

During this time everyone needs to make sure they are......

Figuring up exactly how much weight they want to lose per month and then taking that number and figuring up how many calories per day you need to be deficient to meet that number....this will help you know how many calories per day you can eat and how many calories per day you will need to burn in exercise!

E.g. If you want to lose 7 pounds in the month of May then you need to say 7 times 3,500 (7 x 3,500 = 24,500). We do this because there are 3,500 calories in a pound...and to lose 7 pounds you would need to burn/lose 24,500 calories! Now you take that number and divide it by 31 because there are 31 days in the month....so 24,500/31 = 791 calories rounded off. This means that for everyday in the month you need to be burning/losing 791 calories either by eating less or exercising more or a combination of the two.

So how do you know how many calories per day your body uses to know if you are cutting calories? A general method that is used is to take your body weight and multiply it times 10. So, if I wanted to lose 7 pounds in the month of May, and I currently weigh 260...the first thing I'm going to do is subtract 7 from 260.....(because I want to lose 7 pounds) and use that as my start weight....I can explain this to anyone who doesn't understand ....no biggie...I'm just gonna try to shorten this post a little....so 260-7= 253 ....so now I take 253 x 10 = 2,530 and that is roughly the amount of calories my body needs to just maintain a weight of 253 pounds...BUT...if I cut out 791 calories per day I can lose 7 pounds this month.....so lets say I am going to eat 1800 calories per day....then I would say 2,530 - 1800 = 730 calories that I have cut so far per day......So...I would only need to burn about 60-100 calories per day in exercise to reach my goal!

I hope this helps some of you while setting your weight loss goals for the month of May and deciding exactly how your going to do it....don't forget to come up with a back up plan for if it rains or something...also decide NOW what you are going to do to combat those high calorie birthday parties, family reunions, church gatherings, and BBQ's that happen all to often during the summer!

YES! I love Jillians "30 Day Shred" OR Billy Blanks "Tae Bo" or any of his

bootcamp workouts..............I also have a few of The Biggest Loser

bootcamp/workout DVD's!

I can usually find them pretty cheap at Wal-Mart or ebay....but if there is

anyone who is really short on money they can try their local library.....usually

they have a descent selection.

Cool maybe you can tell us what your doing in the real boot camp and giv eus some ideas for this one!

I will do that...It starts May 19th...Tues/Thurs/Friday. Maybe once it starts, I can start a thread and add what we do each day. Someone might have to remind me closer to the time. My memory isn't what it used to be:dizzy:

On another note, I just got 2 books that I think are really good.

Eat this not that....even though alot of the restaurants they have in there I have never heard of or aren't in my area, there still is alot of good info for someone who is counting calories. Plus there are other sections i.e. supermarket shopping or what do do if you are feeling a certain way.

The other is the Biggest loser 30 day jumpstart. This seems like it is wonderful folks who have alot of weight to lose. It's simple to follow and has great tips and motivation through out the book. I think I am already beyond the point that I would need to follow this for 30 days, but again, there is alot of good info in it. I especially like some of the recipes and really like some of the exercise routines.

That is one thing that I have to master....is knowing what to do when I go into the gym. I like to have it written out for me before I even walk through the door. Literally, I write down what exercises I am going to do.

Haley8203 04-27-2009 10:41 AM

McKenziesmomma-it's nice to know someone else will be in my situation for the most part (it's just her and i) my finals are today, tomorrow and wednesday and im struggling to not binge my anxieties during this time lol...good luck on your exams.

Satria 04-27-2009 10:45 AM

I'd like to join! I'm new too ;)

Can you tell me a bit more about the 'boot-camp approved' exercises? When it gets light earlier, I bike to work (3 mi each way) and I was planning on also trying C25k this summer too. I'm not sure I can do those things and another workout DVD on top of that :o

Tamara 04-27-2009 11:17 AM

I'm in. This sounds like just the challenge I need. Plus, I'm actually joining BEFORE it starts. I'll be back later to post goals.

Purplefirefly 04-27-2009 12:11 PM

Alrighty I'm in :D I'll do this month by month and likely for July I won't have as much exercise (I will certainly check with my Dr to get the OK to resume exercise).

I plan to calorie count and for exercise I will do the C25K and the 200 sit-up and 100 push-up challenge. I plan to add more exercise as the time passes.

The healthier I am for June 30 the easier and faster my recovery will be - that is good incentive!

It's also ironic that hubby and I are planning a major clean-up of our apartment (beginning after my teaching and grading and his classes are done end of next week) - we have way too much stuff and need to get that under control too - so your FlyLady thing will be good.

This challenge is coming along at a good time for me

Don't binge!!! Get you some air popped popcorn or something to snack on while you study! I know it can be stressful. My school has split up our finals this semester....Today was the last day of school and Tues and Wed are study days...Thurs through Wednesday are our finals. Good luck with yours!

Just make sure you take it slow....if you follow her steps to creating your "control journal" your life will always be in order....just be realistic and if something doesn't work out rethink it and adjust your plan! What is really awesome is that all her stuff is free! She is truely an amazing woman!!!

I posted this question somewhere else, but still haven't gotten any feedback...maybe you can help. I used to do LAWL but now am counting calories. Having said that, I did really like LAWL and especially the fast forward juice (I think that is what it was called). The juice you would do for 2 days. I also loved the LA lites. So my questions are, what do you use for the juice, what was the menu for the 2 days you do with the juice and what do you use for the la lites?

Thanks
J
