Thanks everyone! :) I'm happy to be here!

Speaking of St. Patty's Day... anyone have a good cabbage soup recipe? I love that stuff and it's so light! :)

FullSteamAhead 02-25-2009 11:54 PM

Hi all, I am going to bed but wanted to pop in and say a quick hello.

Petunia, hi there! I wish I could help you out....except for the cabbage soup diet soup which is not tasty, lol, I don't have an authentic irish recipe. Are you planning to make a traditional Irish meal? I have made kapusta a few times (DH loves it), it's polish cabbage soup but has quite a bit of butter in it.

OH I am sleepy so I am headed to bed. I am meeting mom tomorrow so I am happy about that, she is coming over after and I can't wait to show her the wii! I hope you all had a good day and wake up to a new and successful day tomorrow. All went well here and I am sipping on water as we speak, tomorrow is a new day.....let's all make it a good one. :)

Thanks FullSteamAhead! Is anyone changing their official weigh in day because of Ash Wednesday? Mine's on Friday, but I'm not sure how long it'll take to get back to my true weight after the day of fasting. Maybe I won't put this week's weight in the tracker.

Petunia418 02-26-2009 10:28 AM

Thanks FullSteamAhead! I haven't made Kapusta. It's so funny (well, to me)- my grandma is Irish and my grandpa was Polish, and they were always cooking. I have no idea where the line is between Irish/Polish with some of the food they served... I do know there was always cabbage and potatoes!

I'm thinking of making a big pot of cabbage soup, not only because I enjoy it, but I think it'll keep me focused on my St. Patty's Day goal!

I'm down to 177 this morning. Not sure how THAT happened, but I'll take it! :)

Congrats petunia one the engagement, oh and cabbage soup is awful, but here is a recipe
ingredients:

* 1 small cabbage - about ½ lb (225 g)
* 1 medium sized onion
* 1 oz (28 g) butter
* 1 pint chicken or vegetable stock
* Salt and pepper
* 4 tablespoons soured cream
* 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Method:

1. Shred the cabbage finely, wash well and drain.
2. Put the butter into a saucepan and heat . Chop the onions finely and fry gently in the butter until soft.
3. Add cabbage and stock. Bring to the boil.
4. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Reduce the heat and cover the pan.
5. Simmer gently for about 15 minutes.
6. Ladle into 4 warm soup bowls and pour a tablespoon of soured cream on each bowl.
7. Sprinkle with the parsley.
8. Serve immediately very hot.

why dont you try a traditional irish stew, much more tasty though not as kind on the hips im guessing but my mum makes it but more soup like and its tasty :)

Koshinogi 02-26-2009 12:49 PM

p.s miss out the butter and use a little olive oil to make it more healthy

hi girls

I hope your all having a good week. Petunia and freiden , yourmost certainly welcome! :) Well after a bit of deliberation I decided to reinstate the monthly challenges we had here in the past, a few of the gals (from then) had approached me about the ole monthly c hallenges and I have decided to reinstate them beginning this March. It was a pleasure to get to know you all and I do hope we c an traverse back and forth and keep in touch. I always did things on amonth by month basis (exercise too) so it has been difficult for me in a sense to have mid month cut off points but having a great support system made all the difference! In a nutshall, I* am reinstating the monthly challenges and perhaps ex. challenges we used to do as well. Hugs and thanks to those of you for your support despite your own trials and tribulations! Let's keep on truckin....and start march with a bang! :)

Hey everyone! Just wanted to pop in and say hello. This week has been pretty good for me as I've been more OP with food and exercise than I have been probably any other week so far this year! I am feeling good and motivated right now, so I'm trying to take advantage of it. Hope everyone else continues to do well and enjoys a wonderful and POP weekend!

Cybertyper 02-27-2009 02:32 PM

I'll join in on this challenge. Although the challenge started 2 weeks ago and there are 2 weeks left, I'm going to set my goal at 5 pounds by St. Patty's Day - but if I lose more, I'll be happy with that too. ;)

Start wt: 209 lbs.
Mini-Goal 3/17/09: 204 lbs.

frieden 02-27-2009 07:25 PM

I'm down to 129 today from 131 at the start. There was a day of fasting this week though, so I'm not sure if it'll stick.

If those pounds do stay off, that's great, but so weird. I've been on a plateau forever, and the only change I made recently was that I couldn't do as much exercise as usual last week. Weight loss is a strange thing lol

Hattie22 02-28-2009 07:48 AM

Hi all:wave:

I have gone down 1lb and am extremely happy!!

After a very long time of ups and downs, hopefully, upping my cals is working.

:welcome3:Cybertyper!!

Congrats freiden!!! Way to go!!!

frieden 02-28-2009 12:05 PM

Thanks, Hattie, and congrats to you too! It looks like we both jumped off the plateau at the same time. :)

Lori259 02-28-2009 12:13 PM

Just checking in I am at 222(loss of 2 lbs) ~I have 7 more lbs to lose reach my goal of losing 9lbs~I am POP so We will see~ it's gonna be hard but who knows....We will have to see.

Ms Perception 02-28-2009 02:18 PM

I'm at 178.2 with a St. Patty's goal of 174. I know things are slowing down for me, but I really think I can make this goal if I stay on track. I am exercising and eating OP, so hopefully my body will cooperate!!
This weekend I have some packing and sorting to do. Maybe that will help! Not only will I be too distracted to overeat, but the lifting and all may act as a weight session of sorts! LOL Whatever works!
