50 Miles in December Challenge
So, with December upon us, it is time to get :carrot: and :broc:
I know that it is hard to keep up with the exercise program this month. With so much to do, we chicks tend to put what we need last. I know that for the last two years I have completely stopped exercising in December and then it takes months and months to get started again! :( So, for all you chicks interested in keeping track and holding yourself accountable, join me on the road to 50 miles!!! We can do it! |
Since I started the thread, I'll update first.
Dec. 1: 0.5 miles :running: and 0.75 miles :swim: Dec.2: 3.2 miles :running: So, I'm at 4.45/50 ::woohoo: |

I'm in! I haven't actually started to exercise for December yet.....we were out of town and today is my first day back to reality.
I'm just heading out the door for my 4 mile hike.......it will be finished before I come back in the house. :) |
I am in for December! My December goal is 90 miles, as I exceeded my 80 mile goal in November. I am also aiming for 1500 minutes of exercise, although I'll be tracking that separately. Doing the Couch25k program this month (starting tonight).
Dec. 1: 2.8 mile walk Dec. 2: 1.65 mile C25k Dec. 4: 3.2 mile C25k + extra walking Dec. 5: 6.7 mile stationary bike; 1.9 mile elliptical = 8.6 miles Dec. 8: 2.5 mile C25k + extra walking ---SICK---:( Dec. 15: 2.5 mile walk ---FEELING BETTER--- Dec. 16: 3.15 mile walk (in the rain...haha) Dec. 23 (back on track...for good! :drill:): 3.3 mile walk December Mileage Total: 27.7 Let's go girls! :cheer: |
I LOVE this challenge! It has made a huge difference! Thank you! I did not make my goal last month So I am tacking on the 9 miles, and aiming for 59 miles!

I'm in a bit of a quandry here. I walk 90 minutes a day......in the woods with no way to measure the distance. I walked yesterday on the road so I could later take the car and clock the mileage.......I walked 8.5 km in that 90 minute walk BUT in the woods I'm not probably walking as quickly and so much of it is uphill it must slow me down so I've decided to count my 90 minutes as 4 miles. That might be a bit low but I should still easily accomplish 50 miles.
The snow continues to deepen so it won't be long till I'll be changing to snowshoes but I still think the 4 miles will be a fair score if it's okay with all of you. |
I earned 1 mile last night at work. It helped keep me awake! I hate nightshift! Total 6.4/59
PS* Timlin your mileage sounds fair to me, I love getting to walk outside too. It has been raining, and I haven't had a chance. |
Hey girls....I have been exercising, just not posting!
12/2 - 1.65 miles C25k W1D1 Yesterday - nothing...way too busy. Well, I did walk puppy for a mile, but I don't count that. Today - 3.2 mile walk/jog C25k W1D2 plus a little extra walking I also PLAN on going to the gym tonight to hop on the elliptical. Hoping to log at least 3-4 more miles. Timlin, it's really your call as they are your miles and your goal. :) I use www.mapmyrun.com to map my outdoor walking/jogging, but I don't know if it would be of any help to you. Walking in the woods sounds kind of scary! Zeta, urockmom & Lewis, you girls are doing well! Keep it up! I know this will be a busy month, especially mid-way through, so I am trying to stay on target and even get a little ahead. |

I walked 2.o miles last night at work 8.4/59 miles. Thanks for the support! Everyone keep up the work. It gets hard to squeeze things in during this time of the year!

i want to join! ive ben doing the c25k so i ging to estimate im at last at 5 miles so far so
C25k, some extra waking and the eliptical = 3 more miles 10/50 miles done as of 12/10..I got some more work to do! |
Managed my full 90 minutes today......in about 4" of new loose snow. It's so cold here I really have to move to keep me from freezing up!!!
Thanks for the comments on my mileage. I'm using 4 a day. Walking in the woods is not scarey......it's like everything else once you get used to it you're not frightened by it. (When I see fresh bear skat in the summer I do look about and begin to make noise and move more quickly for sure. :) Now the bears are not out and about and it's fun to see all the traffic that shares my trails......moles, mice, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, fox and either a large dog or a lynx is active along the way. I know we have lynx, I've seen them when driving home from town but they are so shy I've never seen more than what might be a paw print in the snow when walking. I love walking/hiking where no one else goes.......it's soooo peaceful. |
Hi everyone! It finally stopped raining, but still only 39 degrees! but I did get out and about for 4 miles today! total 12.4/59!

Lewisempire~Thanks for the dust. I really need it! I didn't get any miles in at all over the weekend and have tons of stuff to do this morning. I am hoping to get to the gym later today. MUST keep moving in December!

I will join 50 miles in December. I haven't kept track of my miles so far this month, so I will start at 0 today. Since the it gets dark so early I am finding it much harder to get my miles in.

I dug my way through a new snowfall of loose snow.....gah!!!! 4 miles behind me and I bet if I weighed myself I'd be down a bit just from the persperation...and it's -10C out there! Thank God for mp3 player and the book I'm listening to.

Weekend was really bad intentional exercise-wise, but I did get a lot of activity in on Sunday playing at the park for 3 hours w/ my puppy. Can't count that tho. ;) I got back into the exercise groove yesterday. Last night: 2.5 mile walk/jog (C25k W1D3...on to week 2!) December Mileage Total: 18.75/90 Am either heading to the gym today for some bike/elliptical work or am taking a 4-5 mile walk. Gotta get those miles in! Timlin, on second thought your walks in the woods sound lovely too. I grew up in urban areas, and now live in the desert (Arizona), so never really got to experience wooded areas. I guess the only thing I do that comes close to your walks are my hikes in the mountains. It's good hiking weather right now for us too! :sunny: I have to admit that I don't really miss snow. :p Zeta, urockmom, Lewis, you all are doing phenomenally! :yay: :welcome: lisa and luvmyinnerdemon! I love this challenge. The girls here are super motivating! |
3.9 miles yesterday before I went to work. I am hoping to get that to be a new habit. I sure felt better, and more energetic at work last night!

I did get in a :swim: today of 0.75 miles but now I can't lift my arms or move my shoulders!!!! :D But I am feeling better as I was getting really stressed out about the holidays-:eek: how am I going to get this all done!-but decided to head to the gym instead of the cookie jar. :) So, to date, I am at: 24.45/50 still flirting with the half-way mark but maybe tomorrow! Hope everyone is doing well and getting in their miles!! :carrot: |
Hey UROCKMOM- Great job on chosing the gym! It is easy to lose sight this time of year. It is really important that you make time for yourself!
I had to really talk myself in to my workout today too. It is very cold and wet, and I am not used to this weather. All I want to do is curl up under a ton of blankets! But I did get 2 miles on the nordic track which warmed me up for a while! lets keep each other moving toward our goal!:cp: |
I am down for this challenge! I often walk my kids to school because we only have one car right now. School is 1.4 miles from the house and I have to walk that four times a day when I don't have the car so, I will start tracking the days I do that on here. I will also try and pay attention to what I do in the gym when I run on the treadmill.
Here is what I have walked so far... Monday, December 8th - 5.6 miles Tuesday, December 9th - 5.6 miles Wednesday, December 10th -5.6 miles I will be headed for a walk a lil later today hopefully I can get in another 5.6 miles today! |
Blech, I have been sick for the past 3 days w/ the flu. No activity happening here. :(
On the plus side, I am beginning to feel better today. I am antsy to start exercising again....if I feel up to it, I am going to try for a leisurely walk a little later on today. I know I won't be up to doing the C25k today...but I am hoping I can start Week 2 tomorrow. I am excited to get the 2nd half of this weight off. I've been sitting on my laurels for the past couple of weeks and now, especially after this sickness, I am remotivated to reach my ultimate goal! How is everybody else doing? Probably busy, right? :p |
Ohhhh Esperanzabella.... I am so sorry to hear you've been sick:( I am glad you are feeling better, just take it slow until you are 100% again. The Flu sucks!
I took advantage of some decent weather today, it was cold but not rainy! I got 4.25 miles in for a total of 28.5/59!!!! Hope everyone is is doing good, and staying healthy! |

12/15 2.5 mile walk December Mileage Total: 21.25 I am just going to try to do what I can this month, as opposed to trying to meet a goal. I really want to do more exercise-wise, but at the same time I don't want to run my body down while it's trying to build itself back up! Lewis, you are doing awesome this month. Keep it up! :cheer: Zeta, glad to see you getting those miles in! :carrot: I am going to take a 3 mile walk today. Am hoping and wishing to get back to the gym tomorrow. This is so frustrating!!!! I took a walk today and it started raining halfway through, but I had a rain jacket w/ a hood on so I just popped my hood on and continued on my way!
