Push up Challenge
I need to work on my strength... more specifically, my upper body strength. Not to mention, I would LOVE to keep up with my military hubby who is the push up master.
One problem: I can barely do 2... and even by doing it the girly way! I was given the link to the hundred push up program by a fellow 3FC lady and thought I would start a thread for those of us who are up for it! I'm in fauxtini.....I'm ready for some kind of challenge focusing on exercise! I need to get back in the exercise game! I will try to take the test this evening and let you know where i'm at!

I did day 1, under the first section. I did 8 pushups in the final 'do as much as you can' level. I was happy! when I started this program and stopped a few weeks ago, I could only manage 5 and that was pushing it! |
I'll take the test tonight after work, though I have a hunch I'm within the "5 & under" category ;)

I'm in. However, I will be starting with the wall push-ups due to a past shoulder injury. I started those while in physical rehab for the shoulder, and even those were hard for me.

I'm in! Though, I don't believe I've ever completed 1 regular form push up in my life...I'm willing to learn!

Rfrank: That's what its all about.. just do what you can and build from there. The site helps a lot. you can watch videos and stuff on how to do the proper form. I'm doing pushups on my knees and I still can't go down as far as I should.. but I plan/hope to get stronger and better everytime! |

RIGHT I'm back! 4 n a bit proper ones (except I don't think I went down far enough) or 15 knee pushups... so I'm going to kick off doing knee pushups... when I've built up more strength I'll re-do it doing 'proper' pushups :) Will start tomorrow! |

I got back... so... not only can't I even do ONE push up, I can't even do one modified bendy-kneed push up! :lol:
So! I've modified the modified and am doing Against-the-wall-uber-beginner push ups. I'll start there for some weeks until I maybe do one actual modified push up. |
Ok I am with denial.. I did 15 knee push ups, I tried regular (with good form and managed one..maybe...) So my goal is to do the 100 with the knee kind then move into regular pushup after the first time through.
Now I gotta go figure out how to do the program...want to get it started off today since M,W,F works best. |
Ok, I am in too. I am positive I am a rank 1. I will most likely start with the wall push-ups too. There is no way I am getting on the floor, nobody is here to help me up except my 10 year old. That would just be BAD!
...... Ok, I just did 10 good wall push-ups, I stopped before I went face first into the wall. So I guess I will start with week 1, day 1 tonight but I'm gonna do the middle column of 6-10. I will do it Monday, Wed, Friday along with Curves. What I like about this challenge is there is NO excuse to not do it. You can do it in your nightgown with a mud-mask on and curlers in your hair, and if you do I would like pictures hehe. Fauxtini thanks for the challenge. Being a Blueser is already paying off. :) |
Edzard: I want to do that too. i'm doig knees now in the first section. When I finish that I want to work my way up in sections and eventually move to regular pushups!

Okay so I managed 15 good form girly push ups! WOW!
I was proud of myself! So that puts me at level 3. Are you aloud to do girly push ups for the test or do you have to do regular ones? Welpers...I'm gonna start week 1 on Monday!!!! :D I hope we start a challenge SOON on TBL....here I've waited all this time to be in that challenge and nothing is going on???!!!! |

Melissa: I know it! I can't wait for some challenges to get going!! Maybe if we nag chellez? hehe no no.. that's just rude.. and im just anxious! that's a good idea to start on Monday. I will start a week one thread then and during this week I will try to up my endurance and see if i can up it a level! Week one starts next Monday: Sept.22nd I will start a new thread for week one on monday. In the mean time... use this week to practise up and chat here! Good luck! |
Hi push-up friends.
I started tonight, but I did my push-ups without reading the directions :rolleyes:. But I did three sets of ten on my toes (but I do believe my butt was sticking up a bit more than "proper form". Whatever. I'm going to bet I will be sore for days, so I will start the real program Wednesday. |
Ok, I talked a friend of mine into doing this with me, and she talked me into moving up to the more than 10 push-ups column. It will be more of a challenge this way and we will be doing it together. OK, my arms are tired now, off to bed. Nite ladies.

my arms are a little sore this morning too! hah crazyness! i like it though!! I sould probably rest my arms for a day between practising.. but we will see how i feel later. Im going to try t push myself harder in this challenge. I think I will get DH to train me tonite.. AHH! I don't know if I dare! hehe

Mainly because I have never had the strength to do them. Sign me up for this. I'm definately level 1. |
I don't know what it is about pushups that are sooooo hard. My body just doesn't like them. I worked my way through 1/2 of the NROLW program earlier this year and there were pushups in it - I did against the bench ones.
And I do pushups every morning (ok, *most* mornings) against my cedar chest. But I cannot cannot cannot do regular full, on the floor pushups. I can even hold a plank for a good bit of time, but I *cannot* pushup. I wish I knew why. I wonder if it's mostly mental or what? Maybe I'll work my way through this challenge with my bench/chest pushups and see if when I get to 100, I can move to floor pushups. So weird! . |

Oh my goodness, I would have never guessed that push-ups would make my armpits this sore. I could hardly make sharp turns driving today!

Im just about to see how many pushups I can do again today. my goal is More than 8. mind over matter.. mind over matter i keep telling myself! hehe I can't wait to start week one on monday.. it seems so far away! hehe
Edit: Im proud! I did two sets of 8 and they were actually low to the ground ( Well lower than usual) baby steps! hehe |
Hey all!! I'm still around! LOL! I've had some tests this week so it has been crazy...I THINK I've almost gotten me a schedule that will allow for some regular exercise. I am still planning on starting the push up challenge on Monday....I will keep everyone updated!

The pushup site changed the charts..
Ok has anyone else noticed that the numbers for the week one challenge have changed on the site? I printed mine out but I wanted to go back and check something, and I noticed my chart didn't match theirs. At the bottom of the chart it says NOTE: The above workout is a modification of the original plan. Then it says the original week 1 is still available for a limited time and gives u the link. It has the same thing for the other weeks as well. Of course, the new charts have an increase in the amounts to do, so just something to be on the look out for when you start week 2. I think I will just switch over to the new modified versions in week 2 because I don't know how long the old one will be available.
Anyway, my arms are so sore. I did Curves today too and I could tell a difference just from one day of push-ups. I'm off to do day 2 now. |

So I had DH help me with push ups tonite. He stood over me and helped lower me as low as i should go and keep a good form. They are so much easier when someone's lifting you back up! hehehehe |
I did my Wall Push-ups last night. It makes me feel good for certain, but definitely sore.
I started with week 3 of the challenge, because I could do about 20 or so wall push-ups. So my sets looked like this: 25 17 17 15 and then the last one (as many as you can) I managed to do 30! I'm very happy about that. :) |
I did my NROLW workout last night, which included 3 sets of pushups. So I skipped day 3 of the challenge. It's going to be interesting coordinating the challenge with the NROLW schedule. ;)

I can do 2 regular pushups. five minutes later, I can do 4 girlie pushups. So, I'm starting at the lowest level doing girlies until I can do regulars, then I'll re-think. Holy cows, that's hard. I definitely need this, thank-you, Fauxtini.
Photochick, what is NROLW? Never run on lowly worms? New runners only love watermelon? Nightly row over lakes wetly? Nasty riddles or lovely words? |

OMG! I'm dyin'! I couldn't do ANY girlie pushups at all. My upper body and core are so weak. I'm going to do counter pushups for a few weeks until I can do girlies. I did 3 sets of 8 counter ones.

I did 3 sets of ten girly ones today! im amazed! Mind you.. i should probabaly be going lower to the ground.. but each day is a bit better. I can't wait to officially start the challenge on monday :)

I was surprised by all the low numbers here and honestly thought I'd be able to knock you guys out of the park. Yeah right! I got 0 real push-ups and 5 with bent-knee. I even re-did the bent-knee: still 5. I guess all those times I've done push-ups in the past, I've taken breaks every few, or in the case of regular form, haven't been going down far enough. Anyways, my upper body strength has always been a weakness so I'm excited to improve. |
