98 Days (14 weeks) To Summer Challenge

Hi guys!

Feel free to join in on my challenge if you'd like. I figure, starting today, that we've got 98 days until summer officially begins. My goals are to start eating healthier, drink more water, and lose 15 pounds by then.

LaBonita 03-15-2007 03:58 PM

Hey, I'd like to join! You can never be involved in too many challenges!! LOL...I swear I've joined about 5 so far all at the same time.

My goal is to lose 15 pounds as well....that would put my weight at 129....9 pounds from GOAL! Hopefully I can be at goal before the end of the summer. :carrot:

I'm going to do some small changes from now until then. The Lent challenge I'm doing is proving to me that small changes really works....I've lost 5 pounds since I started it! And to think....before I thought changing EVERYTHING would work, and I didn't lose a POUND! So with this new revelation I'm definitely getting excited because getting to goal is starting to look so much easier.

I'm going to think of small changes and post later what they'll be! Hope to see more people join in on this challenge. :)

canadian mom 03-15-2007 04:38 PM

I'm in I will aim for 7 pounds that will put me at 130. My first goal weight is 135 and I haven't reached that yet. If I reach my easter challenge of 135 I may change this goal.

poppins3 03-15-2007 04:59 PM

Count me IN! Losing 15 lbs. would put me at 123.

Right now, I think I'd like to be down to 115, but I can't remember being any smaller than 135, so I'm not even sure what my goal weight IS!

canadian mom 03-15-2007 05:14 PM

Well If everyone else is going for 15 I will too even though I am quite sure I will not reach it. I will aim for 15. Now I have to change my ticker.

Changed my mind I will do 10

sassyredneckgirl 03-15-2007 05:36 PM

Hi everyone!!... Count me in I would actually like to loose 15lbs by b-day May 13th.. I think I can I think I can I hope I can!!!

Denise

Clover2007 03-15-2007 05:55 PM

Hey all

Count me in too. I'm new and am still trying to figure out how everything works.

So eat healthier, drink more water and lose 15lbs by summer - sounds good. Need to start somewhere!

BBarnes 03-15-2007 06:34 PM

I'm in for 15 lbs by May 14th(that's my anniversery!!!). That'd put me at 204. I'm off to the gym soon and making chicken fried rice (a healthy version) for dinner. Good luck girlies, I know I need it!

futurepixie 03-15-2007 09:44 PM

I'm in!

I am gonna set my goal at 18 pounds, because that would put me right at 140. Yeah that would be pretty exciting. Okay that is a bit more than a pound a week. I can do this!

MeaCulpa 03-16-2007 08:25 AM

Yay! I'm so glad to see that people would like to join my challenge!

Ok, so I'll tell you a little bit about myself, and then you can do the same if you want to. I'm a senior at Pitt, majoring in Psychology and Religious Studies. While I lived on campus, I did pretty well with the whole weight management thing. This year I moved home to save money and to help take care of my grandmother. Oy, what a mistake! I love my family dearly, but they don't always eat healthy, although they try. There's lots of bad stuff to snack on around the house, which was bad for me when I started applying to grad school. When I get stressed, I eat. The more stressed out I am, the more I eat. And since November, I've been super stressed lol. Well, last week I decided to get on the scale just for "fun" to see what I weight. I was shocked to see that I weighed almost 200 pounds. Now, I've always been a big girl, but that was the most I've ever weighed. Well, that's when I decided that something's gotta change. I've decided that when I get stressed, instead of eating, I'm going to exercise. It's been working well so far, at least I think it has. I'm doing the 10 Minute Solutions: Pilates video and I've noticed improvements here and there. My posture has improved and my arms don't seem as jiggly, which makes me happy.

I saw something on the Biggest Loser forum, and I thought it would be fun to try. It was called Around the World challenge, and I was wondering if everyone would like to try it. Basically, you pick city to start at (I guess we could start at Pittsburgh, since that's where I'm from) and pick a destination city. You figure out the miles to that city, and then to get to that city, you and your team post how many minutes you work every day and then subtract it from the previous total. Then the person who gets us to that city can post some fun facts about that city and then pick the next one. If I didn't explain that good enough, check out the forum lol. How 'bout it? Would you guys like to travel "around the world"?

poppins3 03-16-2007 08:45 AM

How about Pittsburgh to Miami?

That's 1,182 miles!

BeezKnees 03-16-2007 09:25 AM

Yea!

This is just what I need! Thanks for starting this!

I'd like to lose 15 pounds by June 15. My goal is to stick to my food plan (1400 calories, no sugar, no wheat, clean eating), drink 3 liters of water a day, do cardio 5 days a week, plyo on Saturdays, and weights 3 days a week.

I'm 39 and have been about 20 pounds overweight almost my whole adult life. The heaviest I've ever been was 185 about 5 years ago. I lost 15 pounds by counting calories, then a period of extreme stress brought me down to about 152. As life settled down, the pounds crept back on and here I am again, at my usual 165. (I was 170 3 weeks ago.)

For the first time in my life, I feel dedicated and excited about becoming healthier. It's not just about a flat tummy anymore. This is about longevity and peace too. :) I think that's what's making it "stick."

I have a good moral support system - my husband cheers me on and gave me 6 personal training sessions for my birthday. I have 2 left, and I've decided that I'm going to continue to see my PT once a month for tweaking. That has been invaluable. It helped me overcome my intimidation of the weights and showed me what to do.

The weight has been slow coming off, but I understand that muscle weighs more than fat, that I have to be rigorous in counting calories and getting myself to the gym, and that lasting change takes time. My jeans are loose, so that's a good thing. :)

I'm a 28 year old stay at home mom of 4 [10,9,4,2 1/2 only 1 boy (4)]. I have been at this weight thing seriously for a year now. I have almost hit my first goal , to get to a "healthy" BMI. Currently I do calestetics, free weights, interval trainning and work out tapes. I have no "real schedule except weights every second day. I work out ususally a minimum of 60 mins a day.

futurepixie 03-16-2007 03:23 PM

I am a 26 year old who has fought with her weight her entire life. Mostly because i always wanted to be thin, and never gave much thought to being healthy. I am a social person who used to make bad choices- i love going out to eat. i love food in general. I love going out and partying and i used to love smoking cigarettes. this year i got tired of feeling bad and feeling bad about myself. so, i quit smoking on january first, joined weight watchers, and started making changes. it has been hard, but every bit worth it. i am proud that most people gain when they quit smoking and i have lost 13 lbs since i started and taken up running. But now for some reason the scale refuses to budge, so this is for me! I also live on the coast and didn't go to the beach ONCE last year. that isn't happening this year.

Hello please count me in. I'd like to lose 10 pounds by June.

MeaCulpa 03-17-2007 10:10 AM

Yay! Welcome everyone! How's everyone's Saturday going so far? I'm doing pretty good. I got up and did my yoga this morning and I'm feeling pretty good. What does everyone eat for breakfast? I've just been eating Cheerios for breakfast, and I'm getting kinda tired of them lol. Anyone have some good suggestions?

I'm going to try to organize the around the world thread. I think if I get it posted, then it'll be easier to understand. I know that I'd like to try it, and anyone else who'd like to, feel free to join in! I think Miami would be a good place to pick for the first destination. Definitely much nicer weather there than in Pittsburgh.

MeaCulpa 03-17-2007 10:14 AM

14 Weeks Til Summer's Around the World Trip!

I hope no one minds that I'm stealing this idea. I thought that it was a really neat idea for some motivation.

We're going to take a trip around the world! We will start from Pittsburgh and end in Pittsburgh. Our first destination is Miami, Florida. It's approximately 1011 miles to Miami from Pittsburgh. One minute of exercise equals one mile. The person who gets us to Miami can post some fun facts about the city and then pick our next destination.

MeaCulpa 03-17-2007 10:15 AM

1011-60= 951

canadian mom 03-17-2007 10:17 AM

i have got 30 mins of exercise in so far. I eqat oatmeal or eggs for breakfast they are very filling. I usually have a piece of fruit with them.

Ruthxxx 03-17-2007 10:27 AM

I just merged the two Challenge threads as they are about the same thing.
Good luck to you all but rely on skill and planning.

BeezKnees 03-17-2007 10:39 AM

I usually have a bowl of steel cut oatmeal for breakfast. (Half cup, measured dry.) I also have two egg whites and one whole egg. (I'm supposed to just have the whites, but I just can't do it.)

I didn't feel like messing with the oatmeal this morning and I'm out of eggs, so I had a bowl of cranberry Macadamia nut cereal. Not on plan, but I'm feeling a little rebellious because my scale was down a pound and a half this morning, despite having a Dairy Queen Blizzard last night. I'm guessing that muscle soreness was the reason for my weight gain and I haven't worked out since Thursday morning.

I'm going to do plyo with my husband this afternoon, which counts as strength training and cardio. It's pretty tough.

Would you explain how the Around the World challenge works? Are we all sharing our miles? :)

MeaCulpa 03-17-2007 10:41 AM

Yeah, you would subtract your excercise off of the total that I left. So, if you did 60 minutes of exercise, you would say 951-60=891. Then the next person would subtract their's off of 891 or whatever your total would be.

JasonsLea 03-17-2007 03:55 PM

WOOOT! Summer! I'm in! I'll have to think about my goals though.....

Karma27 03-18-2007 03:15 AM

Always late...but I'm in :carrot:

Goals later.

BeezKnees 03-18-2007 04:45 PM

Okay, did 45 minutes of plyo yesterday, so 891-45=846.

I'm off to the gym, so pack your bags, we're gonna be rackin' up some more miles!

canadian mom 03-18-2007 07:26 PM

846-120=726

poppins3 03-18-2007 07:32 PM

726 - 35 (March 17) - 40 (March 18) = 651

Mellonbelly 03-18-2007 09:39 PM

I would like to join too. thanks. 15 by the start of summer would be awesome. I have a wedding to attend early July and have a great dress that has been in my closet for 5 years. let's see...my youngest is 4 yrs but I can't really count it as baby weight anymore lol.

BeezKnees 03-18-2007 10:42 PM

Did 45 minutes of circuit training :lifter: plus 35 cardio :ebike: :woops:

I am down 1.5 pounds i hope the rest of the weight is this easier but probably won't be now that I am at the end of the weight loss thing it is getting harder. I will go for weeks and I mean weeks without loosing a pound then all of a sudden drop a couple. Oh well I shouldn't complain at least I am still losing.

BeezKnees 03-19-2007 09:58 AM

Oh wait! I messed up and drove us all in the wrong direction! Can you tell I'll never be a math major?!?

651-80=571 (mine)
571-90=481 (cm)

CM, maybe pounds aren't the the best way to gauge your progress anymore?

canadian mom 03-19-2007 10:03 AM

If I do not know what my weight is it will go up and up so I have to keep an eye on it. Over x-mas I did not weight myself and it has taken a while to lose the x-mas weight. Actually it was the first of this month.

MeaCulpa 03-19-2007 11:17 AM

Good morning ladies! How's everyone doing today? I'm kinda achy this morning, since I went up to my old high school and tried running. I got a mile in before I quit, but that's better than nothing I suppose! I've gotta start somewhere, right? CM, looks like you've come a long way! It does get harder towards the end, or so I've heard. Just keep moving and before you know it, you'll be at your goal! We'll all be here cheering you along :)

481-60=421

LaBonita 03-19-2007 12:25 PM

Sorry, wasn't around all weekend! And haven't done any exercise yet, but I'll be back later to add my workout minutes to our Around the World thing. How's everyone doing?

My weigh-in day went better than expected....I thought I had gained cuz I wasn't doing so well, but I maintained (phew!).

Just curious: what do all of you girls do for exercise? What's your weekly plan? I'm trying to come up with one...I can never stick to one cuz I get bored.

MeaCulpa 03-19-2007 02:02 PM

Well, as far as my plan goes, I'm doing an exercise tape called 10 Minute Solutions: Pilates. It's been an awesome tape so far. I've noticed a big improvement in my posture, my waistline and my arms. I don't really like the cardio workout, because I don't think it's that effective, but maybe it's just me...since I lost 3 pounds last week. I'm also going to start walking/running the track up at my old high school to try to get a better cardio workout. I think that after next week, I'm going to switch to another video. I heard that it's better for your workout plan if you switch things up every so often. That's a good idea, since I get bored easily too.

BeezKnees 03-20-2007 12:21 AM

CM - Oh, I didn't mean stay off the scale. I have to keep an eye on the numbers too or things can spiral quickly out of control. Are you happy with everything other than the number on the scale?

As for exercise, I'm still trying to work on a schedule. I meet with my PT on Wednesdays and I never know what we're going to do, so I have to not do any weight training after Sunday in order to give my muscles ample time to recover before PT. This week is the 5th of my 6 sessions, and I plan on going two weeks before the next one, so I hope to have a plan in place soon.

I'm thinking something like this:
Saturday: Plyo (It's lower body and cardio wrapped up in one), Abs
Sunday: Upper Body, Cardio
Monday: Cardio, Abs
Tuesday: Lower Body, Cardio
Wednesday: Upper Body, Abs, Cardio
Thursday: Cardio
Friday: Off Day

Cardio at this point = 20 minutes of sprints on the stationary bike, then 35 minutes of big hills on the treadmill. I'm working up the gumption to do the stairmaster.

canadian mom 03-20-2007 11:08 AM

I don't care that much what the scale says as long as inches are going down. lol I need to get a tummy tuck but we cannot afford it right now so I hope in the next couple of years I will. I tihnk right now that is about the worst of it except my legs no matter what I do they are going no where but I always had big legs even when I was a teen. I hjad to get jeans to fit my thighs not the rest of me and when they fit in the waist they looked painted on my thighs lol

as for exercise well I do free weights every second day, calestectics and cardio. I try to do cardio everyday. Cardio is anywhere from 30-60 mins then I walk for 30 mins everyday.so I exercise anywheres from 1-2 hours/day. My day off or at least an easier day is usually whatever day I am gonna be busy that week like today i only got in 30 mins.

my cardio is interval traiming I do 3 mins warm up 4 mins up 1 min down (5times) then 3 mins cool down also I do 5 min warm up 10 mins up 3 mins down(5 times) except the cool down I do until I hit 60 mins.

Hi! I know I'm late in joining in, but i love this idea with the destinations and w/ setting a summer goal. I am going to wait until after easter to set my summer goal (it will depend on how I do w/ my easter goal), but I'm definately game for the traveling.

It kinda suits me joining in here... w/ about 400 miles left you're just into Florida from Georgia. My 60 min of exercise from this morning will get you even closer to where I live in FL. :)
