Can't Make Up My Mind!

  • Okay, I've been reading so many different books, read so many articules and
read so many sucess stories from dieters on W.W. Fat Flush,Atkins,The French Diet,Sugar Busters,South Beach...you get the picutre. Welll, I am
totally comfused and my weight is suffering because I can't make up my
    mind which one to choose!!!!

A few years ago I lost a lot of weight on weight watchers but after reading
all this about carbs I don't know if I should do it again and summer is fast apporching and I'm getting nervous

Has this happened to anyone else? and if so how did you solve it.

  • I personally am on WW, just because it gives me something to write down and think about what I'm eating. Although my problem is not a diet plan, but a problem with over eating... so that's different for everyone.

As someone in the health profession, I tend to ignore what the "popular" articles say about carbs and such. You do need some carbs in your life, medically speaking at least... so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

WW also has a plan now, the "core" plan where they focus on getting only the "Good" carbs...
  • Mel, welcome!
As MtaTJac said, we're all so different. What works for one may not work for another.
Personally, I count calories, wear a pedometer, and go to three exercise classes a week. I've always hated counting calories and tracking my food, but after trying almost every diet in sight, I know that tracking is really what works for me.
Knowing I don't have to deprive myself of certain foods (as long as I count the calories into my daily total) is huge for me.
  • Thanks guys!

You know, I did lose 40 pounds on weight watchers and I did it eating so-called "bad carbs"(corn, potatos, bread, pasta and yes even table sugar) so
I was all "rca victor dog" confused when I read these books.

thanks for helping me to focus back on what worked for me in the past.

  • I know for me, I tried several of those diets, and they worked for a while, but I kept getting lazy and quitting... I wound up taking the best parts of diets that I liked and coming up with my own plan. You may find that WW works best for you, but if it doesn't, just keep learning... eventually you will figure out what works for you.

    Good luck and keep posting!

  • Hi Mel

The best piece of advice for you is to find something you like and can live with for the rest of your life. If you can't envision yourself not eating a certain group of foods or food for the REST of your life, the plan is not for you. I, like most of the other lovely ladies, came up with my own plan. I count calories, stay away from simple carbs and processed foods, and eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and fat free dairy. I got a bit bored a while ago and decided to try low carb. I couldn't hack it. I love fruit too much (and chocolate!) I couldn't imagine living my life without eating a couple of tangerines every day.
  • Thanks guys!
btw, Lala, love your avatar and I love the marx brothers movies too!
  • There's a poll somewhere on these forums about what kind of 'diet' folks used. I believe that 'something I figured out on my own' ranked right up there with calorie counting. Lots of people take parts of several plans and just sort of work them into a plan that works for them.
