Yupp, definitely!! I used to dislike this quote because it always seemed a bit "pro ana" to me.

I am now lost about 25lb and am experiencing for myself that the quote holds true. When I want too much of a bad thing I remember what it was like to have as much as I wanted but be large and miserable about it.

I just finished reading Walden by Thoreau and found a few quotes I really enjoyed:

"I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."

"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."

Julibee, I LOVE these quotes. Especially the first one. Thanks so much for posting them! I am going to have to get Walden out of the library and read it again. :)

Okay call me cheesy, but I just read Jack LaLanne's new book (you know, the juicer guy), called "Live Young Forever." It's absolutely the most inspirational and motivational book I've read!
Here are some of my favorite Jack LaLanne quotes:

"You have got to take care of the most important person in the world, YOU!"

"Living is a pain in the backside, because you have to work at it. Dying, now that's easy."

"You eat everyday, you sleep everyday, and your body was made to exercise everyday."

"Would you get your dog up in the morning and give him a cup of coffee, a cigarette and a doughnut?"

"Exercise is king and diet is queen; put them together and you've got an empire."

:)

healthygal, I love those quotes. I don't think they're cheesy at all!

Especially love the last two. So true! Haha. Thanks for posting them! :)

It's always really hard for me to get back on track if I eat something I shouldn't. But, remembering this quote really helps me:

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there. -Anonymous

"Every failure carries with it the Seed of an equivalent or greater Benefit."
Napoleon Hill

"We are indeed much more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless help us to be much more than what we are."
Adelle Davis

"Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick, is to feed your sickness."
Hippocrates

"Stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Coincidence? I think not!"

I LOVE this quote. I will have to remember this one whenever I am feeling down. Thanks for posting.

Hannah, love the last quote in your signature. Oh so true.

Gracie, love the Napoleon Hill quotes, especially the first. I find that to be very true in my experience.

"If it doesn't kill you, it'll only make you stronger."

This quote is simple and straight to the point. It gives me alot of motivation whenever I feel like I just can't do it anymore! I use it on every single difficult aspect of my life.

Like when I'm running and I feel like I'm dying and I'm ready to give up anytime, I tell myself it's painful but since I'm not dead yet it probably is making me stronger.

And the feeling of victory afterwords is just sweeeet! ^^

Amen to that!

rebeccamichelle777 03-19-2010 04:15 AM

My version of "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is "What doesn't kill you makes you weirder!" LOL ;)

I just saw this one today and think it's great:

"If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right."- Henry Ford

I loved all your quotes, copied quite a lot in my diary :]

Here is my contribution:

While reviewing my weight loss action plan, found a quote that always puts things in perspective:

The process of changing from what you are to what youwould like to become can be either arduous and frustrating OR easy and rewarding. The effort required for both paths is the same.- Stan Goldberg

When I'm coping with 'cheating' on my diet...

When I had a bad night of binging, or a weekend of having too much fun, or just have put off going to the gym...this quote really impacts me--

"Get back up and finish what you started."

Here are some of my favorites, I apologize if some have already been posted :)

Sacrifice is giving up something good for something better

You don’t drown by falling in the water; you drown by staying there

Success is the sum of many small efforts

The road to success is lined with many tempting parking spaces

It is easier to suppress the first desire than to satisfy all that follow

Better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness

Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor

A diamond with flaws is better than a common stone that is perfect

The only job where you start at the top is digging a hole

There’s always free cheese in mouse traps but the mice there ain’t happy

A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for

These are 3 of my favorites.

I am beautiful as I am. I am the shape that was gifted. My breasts are no longer perky and upright like when I was a teenager. My hips are wider than that of a fashion model's. For this I am glad, for these are the signs of a life lived. ~Cindy Olsen

“I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be.” -Douglas Adams

..."I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humainized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming."

I'm not sure where he got it, but my trainer told me this one the other day:

"If you have to eat a frog, don't spend too much time looking at it. If you have to eat two frogs, eat the biggest one first."

I now think of my dreaded exercise workouts as frogs. :D I saw my trainer last night when I went for my exercise class, and said to him, "I'm here to eat my frog." :hat:
I've spent most of today avoiding my run on the treadmill. I was trying to take a nap, but all I could think of was, "Darn it, I haven't eaten my frog yet! Better get it over with."

I've done it. ;)

I love this!!

I'm a noob here! But I've been reading stuff from this site for quite some time now, and it's great. I really love this thread, so I thought I'd put in my two cents.

"If it's going to be tomorrow, it might as well be today. And if it is today, it could have been yesterday. If it WAS yesterday, then you'd be over and done with it."

I just read all 8 pages worth of inspiring quotes and now i'm really motivated! :D thank you all!
and I guess I should share one too :P

"You can't lose weight by talking about it. You have to keep your mouth shut"

Just a few personal favorites. :D

Don't squat with your spurs on.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.

When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.

Making it in life is kind of like busting broncos. You're going to get thrown a lot. The simple secret is to keep getting back on.

Go after life as if it's something that's got to be roped in a hurry before it gets away.
