One of my favorites is:
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

angeline 11-27-2007 07:24 PM

Great quotes in this thread!

Here are two more...both from Helen Keller.

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”

(I tacked this up in my office after my last break-up (it was a doozy too). Sometime after I met the man who would become my husband.)

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”

(I think it's so appropriate that Helen Keller would know this! It touches my heart.)

Clancy 12-21-2007 07:05 AM

My favorite quote is from Dr. Phil. He was talking about overeating at the time. "You are not four years old. You can tell yourself NO!"

Me23 01-30-2008 03:06 AM

A woman is like a teabag. You never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water - anon

CapriPants 02-05-2008 12:06 PM

The one that keeps me going is...

"I no longer want to be the girl that has to wear sweat pants because nothing else fits"

Tamaroot 03-06-2008 10:33 PM

I was told to clean my plate because there are starving kids in Africa.

25 years later I'm fat, and there are still starving kids in Africa.

Alexistrophic 03-30-2008 11:09 AM

One of my faves:

"Most powerful is he who has himself in his own power" Seneca

MariSue 04-26-2008 08:53 PM

One of my favorites is:

"The only thing standing between who you are and who you want to be is what you do."

I'm not sure who originally quoted it, but it definitely speaks volumes!

"I've worked too hard to take orders from a cookie!"

"Hunger is a feeling...thin is a skill."

And I agree with whoever said "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." That one is my all-time favorite.

preetyladyserenity 07-05-2008 09:15 AM

Mine is by Robert Frost:

Somewhere Ages and Ages hense
Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I traveled the one less traveled by
And that made the difference.

And another favourite of mine, which was ironically over the desk of my favourite college professor is:

"I am here to work. If you want love, buy a dog."

 I LOVE it! I rarely laugh out loud at things online but this one did it for me. It really puts it into perspective too - eh?

"Every bite is a choice."

-me.

;)

Zima 07-09-2008 09:13 PM

Glad you liked it, Spoz :) I actually laughed out loud at that one too because I imagine a little cookie with arms and legs blowing a whistle at me and ordering me to eat it. Then I put on my big boots and stomp the little sucker!

mrsaugie 07-09-2008 09:45 PM

i like all of them. when ever i find a thread looking for motivational qoutes i am just going say read the two in my signature.

Writermom46 07-20-2008 01:24 PM

My favorite quote my brother yelled at me when he was introducing me to running in high school: "Winners never quit and quitters never win."

cephalopod gal 07-21-2008 12:27 AM

"You don't really want to be that guy."

Heeheehee it's more of a reference to a conversation I was having earlier, but true nonetheless... :) Everyone knows about "that guy" and how no one wants to be him. In this case, I consider "that guy" to be the person who doesn't take care of themselves and doesn't care. Definitely don't want to be him. ;)

Hi mine is No one has control of my hand but me.

heleyne 10-19-2008 10:53 PM

I just found the coolest one:
"Losing weight is not about willpower--it's about moments of bravado"

:carrot:

ellis 10-20-2008 08:24 AM

Great quotes, everyone! :cheer3: :cheer2:

That nailed it for me. I'm going to print it out... thank you!

Stopping to Regroup

I found that stopping when I've made enough progress, like a goal. Though I try my best to not slip, I tend to think more when I don't build too much pressure on myself. Has this technique worked for you too?

New member here! Howdy!

ellis 10-27-2008 10:24 AM

Welcome, Dan!

Yes, I know what you mean. I feel great every five pounds, and when I move down to the next 10 (ie: 180...170), I feel that I've really accomplished something.

ibleedlipstick 01-27-2009 08:15 PM

Here is my favorite!
There is no passion to be found in playing small; in settling for a life that is less than what you are capable of living- Nelson Mandela

luvmyboys 02-05-2009 06:54 AM

Great thread!

how about this one I think from oa.

It works if you work it.

:)

I love this poem...

“Autobiography in Five Short Chapters”

Portia Nelson

I

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost… I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

II.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

III.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in… it’s a habit.
My eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

IV.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

V.

I walk down another street.

Hope it helps inspire you folks too :-D

So, decided I need to quit buying raspberries as I eat carton after carton of them. Also, every evening I am defeated and eat eat eat which keeps me from making a bit more progress, which I want to do. I feel so good that I have been able to maintain my 18 pounds so far bu ned a bit more progress. I want to stay with this site. it helps. When someone tells me how much wt they have put on it makes me feel so good that I haven't yet. Reminding myself every day what I am supposed to be doing and why is so important. Yea oa.

BellaDiva 05-19-2009 04:27 PM

I like all these quotes!

"I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep but I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion." Alexander the Great
I think this is one of my favorites

bucketwithapurpose 05-20-2009 01:52 AM

Too Cuddly - Who wrote that? That's a great poem!!

Here's my favorite motivational quotes:
"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. That surrender, even the smallest act of giving up, stays with me. So when I feel like quitting, I ask myself, which would I rather live with?"

"I have not failed 1000 times, I have successfully found 1000 ways on how to NOT make a light bulb"

"Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE. The word itself says "I'M POSSIBLE."

"A round man cannot be expected to fit in a square hole right away. He must have time to modify his shape."

"Your day is every day!"

BellaDiva 05-23-2009 12:32 AM

Just found this one today on the back of my brother's graduation program handout:
"Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are foot prints on the moon."

Little Carol 05-26-2009 02:14 AM

This is a very encouraging thread. Keep up the good work, everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodbye Chubby , I love one of your quotes!

"Don't give up what you want most for what you want now". Repeating this in my head will surely give me strength when I am craving that candy or cookie! Thanks for the inspiration.

Don't you just love a quote that reveals itself to you when you need it the most???

Your mistakes do not define you now; they tell you who you're not.- 3 Doors Down

also inspiring to me from the same is:

You hide behind your walls of "maybe" and "nevers", forgetting that there's something more than just "knowing better".

If you're afraid to fly then I guess you never will.

You've got to live this life your given like it's the only one you've got!

HotWings 07-05-2009 12:01 PM

Some very inspiring quotes here!

My sister used to be an athletic trainer for a college football team. Just above the team's entrance leading onto the field there was this and I have never forgotten it - it is so true:

"If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always gotten."

I am not sure who said that, but it really made an impact on me.

Julibee 08-12-2009 02:46 PM

HotWings, I love that quote! It rings so true for me; if I keep up my old habits, how can I expect any change in myself?

I just finished reading Walden by Thoreau and found a few quotes I really enjoyed:

"I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."

"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."

Soyrizo 08-19-2009 01:12 PM

I can't find the person's signature right now, but it caught my eye when browsing before I registered and really stuck with me.

I think it was:

Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Maintaining your weight is hard. Pick your hard.

NightengaleShane 08-19-2009 02:30 PM

Soyrizo -- I believe that quote is in "yoyodieterinvegas" ' signature. :) And I agree, I like it, too. Another one I like is nelie's:
"Eat/exercise for the body you want, not the body you have." I always kept that in mind while losing weight.

MsWannaBSlim 10-07-2009 12:30 AM

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Oh my gosh, I was sooooo close to bingeing out. I came close several times tonight, BUT, just about 10 minutes ago I was feeling desperate so I logged on and thought I might find salvation and I have by all your inspiring, funny and honest quotes. Amazingly I don't even really feel hungry at the moment. Not voraciously anyway  I am going to go to bed and feeling good that I overcame another day of resisting temptation, rather than going to bed chastising myself for giving in and horking out. Thank you everyone!
:carrot:

I saw this same signature yesterday and of all the quotes on here this one struck me as the one I could use in my life. It can be shortened to a mantra- Pick your hard.

Palestrina 11-04-2009 11:34 AM

Love this thread. My quote is in my signature.
