April binge-free challenge: keep it under control!
To new and former friends, let's try once more. We'll try not to binge during April, ok? Why not start with advice? Can you say what has worked for you in the past when you DID succeed in remaining under control?
I will start with my last "finding": I am training myself not to eat the last bite and leave it uneaten on the plate. I feel great when I do that, because it is becoming some kind of ritual that reminds me of my problem, though I have been binge-free for some time now. I never want to forget that no matter how much under control I may be, Mr Hyde is still there... What have you been doing that has worked for you? |
I was doing fine and then I got very busy workwise - that means tired, no exercise and back to bingeing because i don't get the opportunity to eat on a regular basis.
New month and new start here comes day1 |
I'd like to join in this challenge this month. I have been having some serious binge issues but I am trying to go through the month of April without one.
I hope everyone has a great month. |
Oh I'm SO glad were starting a new month! March seemed rough to me! But it's a new month and I'm ready to kick its butt! ;-)
Something that has worked for me is keeping a journal- ill list off all of the reasons Im stressed and then make another list of everything that I can do to solve the problems- and I get started on it! Helps me stay busy, de/stress, and be productive! I like that idea Inglesita! :) I think I'll try it through April! I'm totally a plate-licker haha ;-) Gettinfit- let's do it together! :) a completely binge-free month! I'm excited! |
Have any of you read "Brain Over Binge"? I'm reading it now...
|
OK danzingurl - Let's do it. I will be sure to check in everyday.
Violet - I will definitely check out this book. Let me know if it helps you. Thanks for sharing. |
I also has 2 binges in the past 3 days...I would love to join and try to go the whole month without one! i also threw away my trigger foods (trail mix and peanut butter) and hope that will help! the awful feeling after a binge just isn't worth it! good luck everyone :)
|
I find that when I have a lot of time on my hands that's usually when I feel the need to eat my trigger foods :/ I want to try being binge-free this month :D and @AilsaPearl good idea throwing it all out it really isn't worth how you feel afterwards. Good luck you guys!
|
I'm in too....
Had a terrible binge last evening and feel awful this morning...I really wanna skip a meal but I don't wanna get into that cycle either :( |
still haven't binged since 3/9.i'm in for april too.
|
Just finished my first real binge in a while (I've had what I considered small binges but not like this) and I feel pretty icky. Now that I remember what my binge foods taste like, they really aren't that great. Mostly I just wanted them because I couldn't have them.
Now that I've been doing IF I've noticed that whatever you eat when you're physically hungry tastes delicious. I was loving the taste of fruit and salads. My binge foods tonight I ate when I was already full. So in my mind they don't taste that good. I think that's a good thing. |
YES YES YES Im in! :)
|
Happy to be here again today - this is day 2 for me - have a good day everyone
|
Good morning,
Day 1 was good for me. No binges. Working on day 2 now. Have a great binge free day everyone:) |
HAPPY APRIL, EVERYONE!
I'm ready to make this another month that I'm in control. Let's do this thing! Welcome, all newcomers! :easter2: |
No binges today! staying on plan with a small healthy dinner, lot's of protein to keep full! taking it one day at a time. good luck everyone, i'm rooting for you!
|
Had a good day yesterday and got my wisdom teeth out today- its a pain ih the butt to eat anything so I think I'll be safe for at least a few days ;-)
|
It's a pain in the mouth! LOL
Today I found myself thinking of food with the old "what can I eat?" question, though not hungry at all. Fortunately a red alarm started ringing in my head, and before I opened the fridge I asked myself what was going on... I was working on my thesis when the "what can I eat" question started to pop up, so I just smiled, diagnosed myself with frustration, and went on working. It is amazing to realize that the binge wiring is intact, and that self-knowledge and the good working of the no-more-binges alarm is allowing me to keep binge-free... Three months, two days, and counting! |
inglesita64 - Great job on realizing what was going on and catching it before a binge.
Day 2 was good for me with no binges nor the urge to binge. Hopefully day 3 will be as good. |

Her book is about how we have control over our binges and it isn't due to anything emotional or stress, etc. It's interesting so far. I haven't finished it yet as I've had a busy week, but hopefully will finish it soon. She talks about getting control over the "animal" part of our brain. Makes sense. She has been successful, so it works for her. |

I nearly gave in yesterday - I work well with an eating routine and yesterday it got broken - nearly went to the store for the carbs and fat - but managed to draw back and did 30 mins exercise instead - so onto day 3
Hope you all have a good day |
Inglesita, congrats to you for staying strong! What is your thesis about? What are you studying?
Did well yesterday. April is going to be a great month! We're going to get through this month with flying colors! Good luck, everyone. :goodluck: |
Good morning everyone
Jalsa - Great job :cp: on staying in control yesterday. So far so good for me too. I'm working on day 3 of no binges. |
GettinFit- woo were still in it to win it together! ;-)
Tyla- congratulations and thanks for the good luck wish! Violet73- I'd like to check in to that book also! Thanks for the suggestion! Jasla- doesn't it feel great? Good job :) Keep up the good work everyone! |
wow, we are all doing great!!! Tyla, I am in cultural studies, which means stepping on slippery academic ground all the time. I love what I do, but it is hard to have a full time teaching job, then a part time translation job, a house to look after and this thesis... Hard work. I always thought that managing my binges would be more difficult than writing the thesis, and it turned to be easier than I thought thanks to this site. Right now I am writing through a "what can I eat" fit, waiting for it to go away. It's like an anxiety attack, isn't it. Now it's fading... Phew! Got through it! If I had not found this page, I would be bingeing right now.
Let's get to the end of April! |
day 2 with no binges! keep it up everyone! I saw this quote that really spoke to me about binge eating "when a craving doesn't come from real hunger, eating will never satisfy it" gotta think about that if the desire ever hits!
|
Wow this is great -Gettinfit, Inglesita, AilsaPearl, Snaggly and Danzingurl and everyone else who's gonna make it through today :)
I ate more than I wanted to at lunchtime yesterday - but it didn't carry on into a binge -soooo it's onto day 4 - |
Is it possible to binge on sunflower seeds??? haha...j/k They really are helping me not grab everything in sight and scarf it down. They keep my hands busy and are so yummy. A little salty, but drinking lots of water is helping. I'm not sure if they are really helping my problem, but at least I'm not eating a bunch of junk.
Congrats to all of you who are doing so well! One day at a time.... |
Oh my goodness, I am so glad I thought of this forum. My bingeing (and purging) has been getting more and more out of control for a long time. I am so desperate to stop, I want more than anything to not be thinking about food 24/7 and the remorse and isolation is suffocating. I have to take things 5 minutes at a time now. I feel like if I commit to anything it only makes it more likely I won't do it (defiance?). I just need to see all of you succeeding and try to get it into my head that I can do it too!! My disease is telling me I can't and its so loud I have been giving in to bingeing every single day for weeks. Thanks for sharing your strength.
|
no binges today! i ate 200 over what i aim for but i was extra hungry, so i'll make up for it tomorrow! no absolutely NO binges for all of april, i'm determind! how's everyone doing? day 3 successful!
|
Always happy to hear about everyone's success! I'm still having a pretty easy time- its a pain to eat anything with these wisdom teeth gone and the pain mess have made my appetite totally disappear- I can barely get in 1,000 calories a day. I just hope it doesn't backfire into a binge when I'm feeling better!
How is everyone planning on handling Easter celebrations? I have a soft food excuse but I know my in laws are still going to try to force feed me whatever treats they can! |
I've now had 4 days of no binging and staying OP. Looking forward to day 5.
danzingurl77 - I hope your mouth is feeling better soon. Congrats - to everyone who made it through another day! We can do this!! |
Congrats to all of us who made it through another day. :congrat:
Inglesita, thanks for the info. What do you plan to do once you finish your thesis? is that for a Masters or Ph.D? Either way, congrats to you for working so hard!! :bravo: Good luck to all of us to continue to do well this month. :goodluck: |
Got through yesterday - with no problems - but today, just now, I almost had a binge - been dealing with some pretty aggravating stuff today ie paperwork and clearing out my study - I really did get stressed -but I've stopped it by coming here and having a little of something sweet, which isn't a binge food.
Day 5 and if I take it easy - I'll make it to the end Good luck to everyone else on the journey today ! |
Erin, if you are so much out of control, my piece of advice is that you go low carbs for some days. That will stabilize your blood sugar and you will not be thinking of food all the time. If Atkins (and similar diets) has anything good, it is that: you stop thinking about food so often and do not get hungry. After a week of eating low carbs, you will see that you are much more in control... Then you will be in a position to incorporate (good) carbs slowly, always keeping away form bad carbs until you are much more in control and can even go hungry for some time without getting desperate. Hope that helps!
Good job, everyone! |
14 hours into the day without bingeing. Longer than I made it most of the week. I just have to think how good it will feel to go to sleep tonight without hating myself for bingeing. My cravings aren't as had today, probably because I stayed away from sugar so far. Need to escape sugar one more time today (coworkers birthday) then i have a chance. I will keep praying.
Thank you all for being such good examples!!! |
day 4 without a binge! i even had my trigger food- trail mix with lots of chocolate, nuts, and dried fruit, and was able to portion it into my daily calories without going crazy! nuts are about the only snack that really leaves me feeling satiated and satisfied, I think it's the high fat content, so i have to portion them out in little baggies for the week and not go over on portion, but they REALLY help keep my cravings down for sugar and fatty foods, i would definitely recommend them (in portion control!) to anyone having trouble with fatty food cravings! good luck everyone, tomorrow is friday and marks the weekend, where I usually have the most trouble. let's all stay on plan for the sake of each other at least!
|
Hey, all I thought I'd check in with you for accountability. I went five weeks without a binge, then I binged & purged last week and tonight. I feel disappointed in myself. I ate a piece of candy today, and ice cream last week which I believe were triggers. Stupid, stupid, stupid! So, I want to spend the rest of April binge free. :)
|
Day 5 complete. Yippee! Have a great evening everyone.
