Default Wine Festival Bingeing

I LOOOOOVE Wine. Therefore I LOOOOOVE Wine Festivals. It's just a fun time to go out with friends, bring some chairs and a picnic, and sample a lot of different wines from the area. So Spring and Fall are always prime festival seasons. My question is is there any way to stay on a diet and go to a wine festival? Or do you just accept it as a blown day? I went to one yesterday and fell into my same habits. I said to myself that I would only do a couple of tastings and then not drink any of the wine that my friends bought to drink with out picnic. Well the fun of it all made that all go out the window and I drank and ate as much as everyone else (who are all very thin). This is probably the first of a few festivals that I'll go to this fall. So should I just accept these days as my days off or should I find a way to maintain my diet and enjoy the festival? Not sure if anyone else has had this same experience. Let me know your thoughts please.
