What are your trigger/binge foods?
What foods for you trigger binging?
For me, the absolute worst is granola-type cereals. Especially Kashe "Go lean crunch". It is high in fiber and fills me up, and isnt very processed, but I can not eat it out of the box or I will eat three servings. I also have a tendency to binge on stuff like celery and agave (this plant nectar that tastes like honey, but is vegan and lower in calories), or carrots and hummus. Apple cinnamon oatmeal- thank god it takes time to boil the water to add to it, and comes in single serving packets. I can not make myself open two packets but, if it was loose, I know that I would eat the whole container because it tastes like apple pie. Flavored apple butter- it has the consistency of honey, and comes in flavors like raspberry, cranberry, honey, cinnamon, and mango. Even though it is only 20 calories for a tablespoon, having it around the house tempts me to binge on it. You can also mix it with oatmeal (which is the reason why I will not get oatmeal that isnt in single serving packets) Applesauce- Once again, thank god for single serving cups. When we get it out of the jar, I'll eat the whole damn thing. Dried fruit- I don't keep this around the house, especially raisins. For some reason, eating fifty raising feels more acceptable than fifty grapes, even though the calories are the same. I eat less of the fruit when it is fresh. Bananas- As far as fruit goes, in my mind the banana is the invention of the devil himself. Because there is NOTHING that I crave like banana with peanut butter/banana and agave. Raw nuts- I adore nuts, even without salt. Anything but peanuts is very tempting What are your trigger foods? |
Almost everything served in that place sitting under the golden arches.
Pasta - specifically the big shells as I like to dip them into the sauce as I eat them. My version of chips and dip. Those bite sized pizza rolls. Little Ceasars Crazy Bread. I bring it home and add more butter, parm cheese and garlic salt. I do NOT have portion control on any of these things so they are all off limits until I can get a grip. |
Chocolate, nuts, nut products. Though in a pinch, anything with sugar will do.

Cheetos ... I have forbidden anyone in the house to buy them. Before I started this journey, I could open a brand new bag sit on the couch to watch some tv and before I knew it the entire thing would be gone.
Granola ... I never thought of this as binging but I have used it to replace chips and other junky snack foods at work. I'm very much a grazer and the first time I brought a Tupperware of granola to work, it was gone before lunch. I still use it to snack on, but I bring a lot less. Also, I consciously put the lid on and put it in my desk drawer after I grab a little bit so that I don't just sit there and mindlessly munch. Chinese food (American style) ... not good for you anyway, but I can't go to the Chinese buffet or I'll eat my own weight. |
Well OP, sounds like your triggers aren't horrible things for you so that's a plus! ;)
My triggers are ANYTHING with the word cake in it, particularly cupcakes(sort of sucks for me since I am in the business of baking). Peanut butter!!- Oh this one is bad, that's why I haven't touched the stuff in almost a year. Candy of any sort, especially chocolate. Pretty much anything sweet. I have always had a horrible sweet tooth, now I just try to ease it with smarter choices. :) Processed, bad for you foods in general seem to be a trigger for me. I try to avoid them at all costs. Oh and pasta. I am a HUGE fan of pasta, always have been, I try to pick better for you pastas now and I find that if I only cook enough for me to have one serving I don't over do it. If there is left over pasta sitting in the pot, chances are I am going back for it. Better to not make extra at all. |
Thank goodness I'm not much of a sweets addict, but I am in love with and adore any nuts, especially cashews, pistachios and macadamia nuts. Also, most kinds of cheese...Sargento's Colby Jack slices. Mmm. And, I love pizza, if it's made well.

Chocolate: I can't eat small amounts. I have been told get a good dark chocolate bar and eat just a little bit a day...its all gone with in the hour so no candy bars
Chocolate chip cookies: can eat AT LEAST 5 in one sitting. So no cookies Those are my biggest bad food nonos My good food nonos are Wheat thins: they are like potatoe chips (can't have just one) Fruit: fortunatly most is very low cal and I don't like adding things like chocolate peanutbutter sugar honey to my fruit so I can get away with eating a whole bunch it just becomes my breakfast or lunch that day lol Natural frozen yogurt: Cant keep it in the house I eat too much! (like the whole carton) |
Chocolate is my main binge food of choice. Any kind. Followed by sweets, cake, sometimes ice cream, but anything if I'm low enough. Sugar straight from the bag, anyone?

Cereal--same thing, gone in 1 -2 days Muffins, Cake, Cookies Granola Nuts Chocolate Candies, Gummy Candys Pretzels, Chips, Crackers It's so sad that I cannot buy any of the above for fear that I will eat all of it. I just can't seem to make myself stop or save it for later. |
Pizza and garlic bread, ugh. Today I thought I could eat an appropriate portion of homemade pizza (pretty low-calorie, 200 a slice). NOPE, I ended up eating 4 slices and a bunch of garlic bread with butter :/ I guess it's no more pizza for me, ever. UGH, I'm so mad at myself.

Cheese pizza (but I'll eat practically anything if I'm in The Binge Zone) and ice cream. I ate a whole Breyer's low-fat mint choc chip last night (but because I had a huge calorie burn day, I've not destroyed my goals). I can eat ice cream out at parlors but my kids can't have any ice cream I like (or even "tolerate"). They'll go check in the morning and from the kitchen I'll hear "ah mom, you ate it all?" Bread, too, is really bad but I generally have had it out of my life for the most part.
Breakfast sausages or bacon too. I've gone vegetarian because of my lack of control. On a retreat last weekend, I was stunned to find the last breakfast was a buffet (a BUFFET!!!) of pancakes, sausages and cut fruit. I ate tons and tons of sausage links and pancakes. I was so mad! I went home and worked out til I couldn't tell what would make me puke first--too much food from breakfast or too much exercise. I was miserable by 6pm. Ah man. |
Zero nutrition, cheesy carby stuff lol
Cheeze-its, cheddar gold fish, cheestos, cheddar ruffles! for some reason I go to these when I don't give a crap anymore, and then hit up the chocolate and sweet stuff If it were up to me, they wouldn't be around |
