Almost one week in, and I feel the irritableness coming.

  • Sigh, when I eliminated sugar and grains from my diet (but primarily the sugar), I found that I would have less patience and get super duper irritable in the first month. I feel lately like I am getting that way and I want to try and calm it down as much as possible.

    Does anyone else get irritable their first few weeks of clean eating? I am not feeling hungry, and can't really say that I have been hungry since I started the diet. I do find that at times my stomach hurts in a different way. More like an empty feeling, but not so much in terms of hunger.

    I would love any advice you have to give, as I want to relax the level of irritability as much as possible.
  • i wish i could give you some advice, but i hit the same obstacle and i have no idea how to finally overcome it.

    instead i can tell you im right there with you! i hope you can get through it- maybe find some fun distractions!
  • the only thing i can tell you is that if you persevere it is going to get better!

    sugar is known to work the way drugs work, so yeah, when you "come off" it, you get the same sort of problems, it's just that the majority of people have not even thought about it so they don't really understand. they're like "oh, you're not eating sugar? why not"

    i was lucky in that it took me around 4-5 days for the sugar cravings to completely stop but now i can see people eat/drink sugary stuff and i just shake my head. it DOES stop and it DOES get easy.

  • thank you, everybody. I know I just need to try and ignore the cravings. I have even gone back to regular milk because the soy and almond milk I was using had added sugar (I didn't care for the plain versions so much), also, the lactose is comforting and the higher amount of protein helps a lot.

    I am just trying to relax and de-stress as I dislike the irritable feeling and want it to finish as soon as possible so I can be more of a happy camper.
  • I haven't posted in a long time! But I wanted to tell you that it is very much like coming off other addictions. When I quite eating sugar i had the same withdrawl symptoms that I did with quiting smoking! It does get better when it is all out of your body. make sure you check all lables, that it is not sneeking in and you dont know it, because that will cause the withdrawl symptoms to linger.
