Default Just wondering if any of u do this...

I have always done this, but just now really realized how often i do it. I have this really weird habit of walking into the kitchen and opening up the cupboard, even though I am not hungry and just looking at all the foods, looking for something. I do the same thing with the refrigerator.

If any of you have done this, how did u break that habit?

Standing in front of the open refrigerator door, Oh Yeah. That usually indicates boredom for me.

Mine is walking past the really big walk in pantry where the door is always open (cuz there are tons of water bottles etc on the floor) and gazing in. The ONLY thing that helps me is to plan, plan, plan- and just say NO to BLTS's (bites/licks/tastes)- given any more slack I will add calories one roasted peanut at a time....

I always open the refrigerator when I walk through the kitchen. I've done it since I was 11 or 12.

I'm going to experiment with a new strategy. When you find yourself doing something you're trying to change (even just having thoughts), you just say to yourself "Next." I love how neutral that is!

Like Bargoo, for me, it's a sign of boredom. I'll be standing there - looking for something, and luckily (due to calorie counting/planning), I'll realize that the something that I'm looking for is NOT food. And I'll close that baby right up and get myself busy with something. Just not food. Very often for me, it's straightening up the house. I find that to be my instant gratification. Other times it'll be working on the computer. Sometimes I'll have a glass of water in place of food or a hot cup of tea. Plan ahead some things that you can do when you find yourself roaming into the kitchen though not hungry. Taking a walk, making phone calls, a puzzle, writing, reading, sewing, errands, chores, exercise, paying bills...

FIND and develop for yourself some strategies and skills to rid yourself of this habit. Count your calories. PRE-PLAN your food intake. Journal your food - you bite it, you write it - no matter what - that will put the brakes on. Get some self-talk/mantras going - "if hunger is not the problem, food is not the answer. if hunger is not the problem, food is not the answer. if hunger is not the problem, food is not the answer."

Yeah it's mostly boredom...so I try to stay busy!!! I also have pictures of me in my skinny days on both the pantry and the fridge. That was a GREAT motivator to step away from the kitchen.
Now I really could pics of myself now up because I feel as though I now look just like I did in the old pics.

Thanks for all the ideas ladies... I have to agree it is usually when i'm bored. Those were all great ideas and points. I really liked the "Next" idea. I'm gonna have to try that and find more things to keep me occupied.

Thanks again!

I do that all the time as well. It's a boredom thing. I usually grab something, though, which leads to grabbing something else...and something else...and then I've eaten 3x daily recommended calories.

To try to get me to stop, I just have to consciously tell myself not to. It's kind of like a subconscious thing. Sometimes I'll go to the kitchen to get something not food related and I'll just go straight for the 'fridge--completely forgetting why I was there in the first place.

OMG thank you so much, now that I think about it, Im a BLTer. I have to bite/lick/taste everything all the time.

Now that I can name my problem, its way easier to talk to myself and say: NO Z, no BLT.

Wow if you were in front of me, i would hug you.

First thing in fixing a problem is finding it no? LOL

Lol, yes I do, and it`s *always* sheer boredom!

Do you actually take something and eat it? As I don`t which is probably the main thing!

Yep, I do it because I'm bored.
I don't really care if I do it or not as long as I don't actually grab anything out of the fridge when I'm not hungry
Usually I realize it, laugh about it and close the door.
