I already eat like that and have been for several weeks, and i'll tell you I haven't felt better! When I first began Atkin's I went ahead and bought the artificial sweetners, lots of bacon (still buy it but natural, and only once a month for a nice Sunday breakfast) lots of cheese (which could be aiding you in your inability to have normal bm's) and ate just like the book says.

However, I decided to change certain things like only buying grass fed organic meats, organic veggies, using more olive oil instead of butter, eggs high in Omega 3's (cage free as well -- oh boy, they taste so yummy!) and so on. I told myself that if I was going to eat such healthy foods, I could go ahead and cut out the artificial stuff, and any other processed things I was taking in.. I included the bars, and atkin's shakes in this catagory. So I did this, and feel absolutely wonderful. Before, I was ok, but now I really can tell the difference. It's hard to explain.. but I guess the point is... eat the good meats, fats, and veggies and there shouldn't be any complaints. I find it even funnier that your husband eats so terribly but has a large opinion on your way of eating. LOL Men sometimes.. <grins>

Rockgirl - I would love to hear how you feel after making your woe even more healthy. I know you'll see a difference.

Yay! Today is day 3, and weighed myself this morning...the 3 lbs I put on are gone...back down to 184. I'm gonna bust out the ketostix tonight and see if they'll turn. I made it through so far with no headaches or withdrawals, so maybe I didn't do as much damage as I thought...
He still hasn't said anything, I still haven't told him. He's working 12 hour day shifts until Friday, so I haven't had to deal with any of the "why aren't you eating what everyone else is" yet. I know, it's funny-he's one of those people who can eat whatever and not gain, and doesn't understand why other people can't. On top of that, you can't convince him that just because you're not overweight doesn't mean you're healthy...

I refuse to give up bacon! I love bacon!

But I do try to make the rest of my protein lean cuts of meat and use lots of veggies.

My DH was against Atkins for awhile too, now he's doing the diet too. I've had your problem with BM"S. That is why I always take psyllium husks every day, and stool softeners, because mine were so hard I would bleed afterwards. It seems to work ok for me, because otherwise I have to go the wheatgrass route to heal me up. Sometimes you have to turn a deaf ear to loved ones that don't understand the process. You have to do what is good for yourself, though it's hard especially since nobody likes to argue or have a disagreement over it, but sometimes you just have to. I sure had to do my share finally we called a truce and now he's eating the same way. Judy

My husband never thought Atkins would work, but now he fully supports me. My specialist even asked him why he wasn't on it too. He said "because I don't need to lose any weight". The doctor then said, "even thin people get sick and have heart attacks". And, said "anyone could benefiit from the way she is eating". This made me feel good. My general doctor is all but supportive, but he's kind of dumb in the first place. LOL

ROFLMAO!! Yeah.. I had to laugh. I had my share of one this week! You might already have the answer to "Do I need to change doctors??" Especially when you refer to them as dumb.
