Nutritional Label vs Ingredients

  • Hi Everyone. I was wondering if you all pay attention to the carb count in the nutritional label when purchasing products or if you look at the ingredients also? I'm just starting, and I bought some Oscar Meyer Precooked bacon and sausage, and they both have sugar in them and I was wondering if I cant eat them. Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks
  • many of the bacons are processed with sugar some of is is so miniscule per serving that it does nto register with the carb count, try it and it you feel the carb monster raising from the gut do not eat it again.
  • I avoid it like the plague for that very reason. Anything i'm not supposed to have stalls me, and a little bit of sugar seems to do it. I ALWAYS read the ingredients. There are bacons out there that aren't cured with sugar. I can't remember the name, Virginia something bacon at Walmart Super Center is gooood. It's thick sliced, and no sugar. Also, Safeway has a bacon (their brand) that says on it 40% less Sodium on it. Read it, and you'll see that it's not cured with sugar either.

You can also go to the Deli of your grocer, and ask them to look up which ones of their lunchmeats doesn't contain sugar. They'll happily do it. Good luck, and like Sue said, if you think it's affecting you, loose it. Better safe than sorry..
  • I have to admit I stink at this. Mainly because I'm not as careful as I should be. But then again, most of what I eat is salad (lettuce) and meat. So hard to mess that up Good luck!
  • Thank you all for your input. I have been so frustrated. I've been eating veggies and meat for like 3 days and havent even turned the stupid keto stick pink yet. Then I noticed the sugar in the bacon and wondered if that was messing me up. Oh well, let give it some more time and see what happens.
  • I don't eat even a hint of sugar because it makes me crave more sugar, and cravings were what put me in a size 26 . If you've only been on Atkins for a few days, hang in there, the worst part is almost over.
  • I don't buy the pre-cooked bacon, but I do buy the Oscar Mayer brand and I count those carbs. My site I use to log my food says 4 slices of bacon has 1/2 gram of carbs.
