Default Perfectionism

I told myself when I started back on this WOL, that I would NOT get perfectionistic about it. That I would do the best I could and be happy with that. So right now I am wishing that I could believe in that idea.

I messed up Saturday and I'm terrified that will mean I will keep messing up.

One day does not mean the end of everything that I've accomplished and can yet accomplish. I am back on track, but I don't FEEL the same. Not as confident or something. More disturbed and worried. The scale is up, but I expected that. It isn't up that much, so why am I feeling so unsettled about it?

Fear, I guess, is the problem; fear that I can't keep on doing what I've been doing so far. I guess I need some reassurrance that I'm not spiraling downward and out of control. I'm not. I know I'm not. But that perfectionist inside is beating me up I guess.

Are you doing Atkins or Sonoma?
Or undecided?

Tomorrow will be another successful day, that will be another one

I'm doing Atkins, I ordered the Sonoma book because I want to read it. I might switch if I become convinced it is something I want to try, but I probably won't. Until I read it and understand it I'll stay on Atkins though.

Yes, I have lost (from the beginning) almost 40. But the beginning was back in 2000. Just since restarting I've lost about 22.

Thanks Robin. I'll hang in there. I'm not beating myself up I'm just really worried that those deviations (little ones) will turn into big ones.

One thing that helped me ....... sometimes I mess up and go off plan....I used to just go ahead and eat what I wanted for the remainder of the day. That just made it worse. And harder to get back on plan the next day.

Now, if I go off plan - it's just for one instance or one meal, whatever the case may be. "Yes - I really pigged out at lunch - but I'm immediately bak on plan for dinner and snacks" - that sort of thing. Minimize the damage's length of time and it doesn't become so controlling.

Does that make sense?

Sherry....the easiest thing to do when you slip up is to beat yourself up and doubt yourself. The BEST thing to do is to let it go and move onto the next OP day. I have to thank you for this post. It sums up what I've been thinking. But instead of the "I slipped up one day" I'm living in the "I keep slipping up" reality.....and thinking I won't be able to lose weight or get back on track....so I self-sabotage myself. DON'T do what I'm doing! One day is nothing--you're doing great

Ya. I bought the book too; but I didnt feel it was pcos friendly.
But AFTER I get down to 150 I think I will give it a try; atleast to have a well rounded diet with whole grains.

Dont beat yourself up.
Dont worry about tommorow or yesterday. TODAY is the day. Just worry about getting threw today. And if you mess up? So what . finish the day on atkins and continue tommorow.

You are completely in control of what you eat, so you won't "mess up" unless you choose to do so. You can do this, if it's what you want

After reading this I thought you were crazy, because I cant control my craving, sometimes I feel out of control...but then I thought..well maybe I just need to remind myself of my goal MORE often , and maybe put up little clues in my house.

Thanks

I'm not sure what plan you're on, but if you do Atkins strict induction (totally by the book with NO cheating) the cravings disappear. Seriously! It's not that a cookie doesn't look good anymore, just that you won't have that desperate, obsessive, I'll die if I don't have one craving for a cookie anymore.

Also... you DO have contol. You totally do! When you pick up a cookie, you have the power to put it in your mouth or put it down and walk away. Feel positive and empowered to make good, conscious decisions for yourself - you deserve a beautiful, healthy, strong body, and you can really have it!

Dont think you are crazy. It happens to us all. No one is perfect. When you mess up on a meal, get back on track on the next meal. Dont wait till the next day cause all you messed up on was that meal, not the whole day. You are doing good. Just believe in yourself.

I think one of the big things with Atkins is to make sure you are eating enough of the right foods to be full. I had a large omelet with cheese and some allowed veggies and bacon for breakfast early this morning and I'm still full. I'm going to eat lunch later today than normal because my stomach isn't telling me it's time for food yet.

If you put enough Atkins approved food in your mouth, then you will not be able to eat junk food because your stomach will be too full. At least that's what I find to be true.

By the time you get to maintenance, Atkins does allow you to add back in some carbs in the form of grains and potatoes and stuff like that once or twice a week.
