Default Need help...

First off, my name is Erin. I am 26 yrs old, and mommy to two beautiful lil girls, Sam(3) and Becca 19months. I am weighing in at a whopping 285lbs. I have tried ww and la weight loss. I lost a lot on la but gained it all back when i had to have my gall bladder out. I was motivated to start atkins this past week, but had to wait til payday and then i kept second guessing myself. I used to have the book, but cant find it anymore, so wasnt sure what foods to get. I dont know if there is any info listed anywhere? Do ppl really smell because of this diet, have heard this somewhere? What are ur hints for being so successful... I want to do this and i am a carb addict that is out of control... I just need support and someone to be there to tell me i can do it... Sorry for the rambling..

You sound as desperate as I felt when I started in late October (30 pounds ago). You have come to the right place! You will always find encouragement, ideas, and a few giggles here, and there's always room for one more As for the hints, tips and tricks... just ask

If you can pick up the book, I think it's really important to read it. Not only does it tell you what to eat, it explains what's happening to your body and why Atkins is a way of life rather than a traditional diet. I found the following link loaded w/info. if you wanna take a look though.

WELCOME!!!

Erin,

Welcome. Your best bet is to go to the Atkins Web site. If you click on Atkins nutritional approach, you will find everything you ever wanted to know. It tells you acceptable foods and everything.

It's a great source of information and I think it's more useful and updated than the book is.

As far as smelling... Sniff sniff sniff nope don't smell any thing there.

but actually as you increase your metabolism you may get more of an odor but that is just your body buring it off. you also can eliminate any of that by drinking drinking drinking not aclohol either.

Welcome there is always room for more!!

I went through a short period of time when my urine was NASTY smelling, but it passed as my body adjusted. I never had the dragon breathe, and I'm sure because I asked friends to tell me so I could take care of it if I did.

You've certainly come to the right place for support!!

There's a nice list of induction accepted foods here:
http://www.3fatchicks.com/atkins/atkins-induction.php

And ebay has TONS of the atkins books for super cheap!

I've never heard the stinking thing...I have 'keto breath' a lot, but I just pop an altoid when I'm coming into contact with a patient if I think it's terrible bad....

We currently have a valentines challenge and have challenges through the year that help me IMMENSLEY, when you feel up to it, feel free to jump in there

Good Luck, I know you can do it!!

I was only 3 pounds less than you are now when I first started Atkins in 2000. Within a week and a half I was down 13.5 pounds. No I take that back, I lost 4 pounds before starting Atkins just by walking and drinking lots of water and watching things. So by the week and a half on Atkins I was down 17.5 pounds. Then after 8 months I was down 50 pounds.

Yes you can do it! I know girls who have lost as much as 130 pounds within a very short time. Of course they did that by very rigidly sticking to induction level and exercising a lot. I don't recommend staying at induction level (20 grams or less of carb) for as long as they did it, but it DOES work!

I was never that rigid, I allowed myself to settle into the diet and just get comfortable with it. I eat mostly meats or cheese or eggs or fish or fats, butter, avocados, sour cream. I eat green veggys avoid potatoes, breads, sweets (unless low carb sweets). I eat a few berries. Try and eat clean avoid phoney chemical foods. Eat natural and fresh foods. 20 grams or less of carbs for the first two weeks.

YES you can do it.

O yeah!!!!
Keep track of it all for free at www.FitDay.com You type in what you eat and it calculates the amount of carbs. I use it everyday to keep up with what I'm eating, but also to check the carb count of different foods.
