Marie and Herb: Here are the rules we base our miles off of for the Equator Trek (just copied this from an old Equator Trek thread).
"Record your mileage as follows:
If you are walking on a treadmill or using other equiptment that records mileage, use that mileage for your workout.
If you are doing weights, a video, Gym class or other type of exercise that doesn't have an odometer, count every 20 minutes as 1 mile."
As far as "what counts," I think it's based on your judgment. If it's something more than you'd usually do in a day -- like extra walking, hiking, playing a sport, etc. -- go ahead and count it. I can even remember Star counting "bedroom activities" as miles. I personally don't do that, but it's up to you, I guess!
