Question Oooh, to be called "skinny"...

Hey all. I went to the doctor last week and during the appointment I told her I was trying to lose weight and asked her what she thought my target weight should be. She said 155. (I'm 5'7") I have 135 as my goal. At first I was kinda excited because that puts me closer to a goal, but then I started thinking...

I want just once for someone to call me skinny! At 155 am I going to look skinny? Not emaciated of course, but rather thin. Hmmm. This whole thing has got me think'n. How did you guys come up with your goal weights? Was it a doctor thing? Has it changed as you've progressed? Please share.

My Dr. said 145 for me but I really want to weigh 130 something...as long as your healthy go for the goal you want...but with a frame of 5'7 I would think 155 will look awsome I am 5'5 and I look really skinny at 140 (I got there once) so it is really up to you

Some idiot started the theory of 100 pounds at 5' and 5 pounds for every inch after that....at 5' 9" like me that would put me at 145....at that weight I would look like a stick...Im skinny at 155....

Like Marie, I'm also 5'9" and my target is 150 to 155. I just know this is where I look best at.

My sister is 5'11" and weighs about 130 lbs, yeah skinny isn't the word, more like gross.

I am 5'10" and I would like to weigh 165 lbs. Years ago when I had lost 150 lbs and I got to my goal weight which was 150 lbs I thought I was fat. GO FIGURE!! I look at my pictures of how thin I was back then and just shake my head. What was I thinking. Anyway, thats how I got to choose my goal weight (165).

I took my lowest adult weight (130) and subtracted 10 from that. I also consulted the stupid BMI chart and 120 is mid-range for 'normal' weight for my height, 5'3".

I'm 5'10", and my goal is 150ish. I weighed that in college, and I thought I looked my best then.

But, I'm in TOPS, and we have to have a goal slip from our doctor. I haven't been to the doctor yet to figure out what she'll say. I'm kind of nervous for the same reason Kerri said. What if she gives me a weight I feel is too heavy? I mean, I guess doctors know best, but what if she gives me the high-end goal for my height and actually I'd look better at the lower end? I'm just hesitating on going to the doctor. I figure I'll go once I lose 20-or-so more pounds, so I have a better idea of what I want for myself.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll really make a decision once I hit 155. I just remember 135 look'n pretty good. I haven't seen that in such a long time!

Nice to know how ya'll came up with your numbers.

When I was like 16-21 I weighed around 120 (I'm 5ft5in). Everyone said I looked annorexic but I don't understand how cuz I see fat on my belly and legs. I thougth I looked sexy and good and my DH obviously thought so also. That's how I chose the weight. I'd love to get that low again but I'm thinking maybe 130 wouldn't be so bad at my age

I think this is a good example of what kind of a role exercise plays in all this. You can weigh 110 and still look flabby if you're not toned and in shape.

So more than 120, I want to be squish-free.
