Default sugar question

is atkins actually a NO sugar diet, or is minimal sugar allowed as long as you count the carbs? just curious, because a lot of stuff will say "sugars 1g" and i've been eating it, just keeping track of the carbs. is this right?

modestmouse,

I believe that induction phase is no sugar. I think it is ok in the other phases if the carbs are counted, but if I'm not mistaken Dr Atkins does say that white sugar and flour are the two big . He does say things like an occasional (very occasional) small slice of wedding cake is understandable, but definately don't make it a regular indulgence.

The way you explained sugars 1 gm and count it, is correct.

Yah, no sugar is the rule. It gets confusing also because you can look and it'll say 0 sugar...but if you look at the ingredients it'll say sugar or some type of it. Just do your best to eat stuff that has none.

The 0 you are reading on the packages label is for "sugars" but things can have 0 "sugars" and still be made with sugar. After induction you can have things that are lightly made with sugar but count the carbs a good example is Peanut butter, it has sugar in the ingredients and is OK after induction to eat in moderation.

I'm not an expert by any means, having only just started myself, but I'm sure if the carb count is quite low, the sugars count is usually low. I had some PB on a celery stick the other night, less than one standard serve, and the carbs were pretty non-existent. Don't freak too much

MM, if its teeeny tiny like you said, I will eat it but I try to stay away from foods like that. Its hard though because even some meats have it, oy. And like the girls said pnut butter and there is NO way I'm not going to eat pnut butter actually I buy the carb solution skippy pnut butter, its pretty darn good on pork rinds (yeah better on ritz crackers, but what can you do lol ).

Its confusing.....hey if your losing w/what your doing then don't worry about it to much. In the beginning when I first started, I felt like a nervous reck, but then believe it or not, it becomes 2nd nature.

Hugs !!! Your doing wonderful

The one thing I've learned about this new WOE is that it's adaptable. What works for one won't work for another. So if it's working for you don't sweat the small stuff!
