I messed up yesterday & am paying for it this morning. I think I started off good (could be wrong) I had my coffee w/cream & Splenda. I was so busy yesterday that I did not get a chance to eat anything till around 3 which was when I was cutting up a cantalope & a new melon that I had never seen in our grocery store before. Its a brite yellow sugar (?) honey dew melon. It is very sweet & taste like sure was added to it so I am sure it is not considered primal. I didnt eat too much of the fruits while cutting it up before we had to run out again. When we got home my neighbor wanted us to go over for dinner so we headed over. They made steak kabobs. She made a new kind of salad, an Asian type with asparagus, snap peas, cabbage, cashews & some other stuff & made a peanut sauce that was not too spicey. She also made a potato salad. I ate the Asian salad & DS only eats the potatoes in the potato salad so I ate the onions & celery (in the Helmans mayonnaise mixture) Later DH & I hoped in the hot tub & I drank 2 glasses of my neighbors homemade grape wine (which she always adds some other alcohol to it) Those 2 glasses was too much I had to eat something to help soak up some of the alcohal but eating a salad does not do the trick so after I ate that I grabed a couple bites of a blue berry muffin, that helped. This morning my blood levels are off, 1st time in a few months that they have been messed up. I will be staying away from her wine for a while. I did not think anything of it when I drank it last nite cuz DH & I make our own wine & it does not effect me like hers did.

I noticed yesterday that my family has been eating differently as well. They still eat carbs & junk food but not like they had been. Since I have started DS has decided to cut back on what he eats & to cut out the junk food. He does not like veggies but will eat certain ones. Some of his chooses are not the greatest cuz there are time when he will go to Sub Way or McDonalds for lunch or dinner. DH has cut back on the amount of his junk food but we did just buy ice cream at the grocery store yesterday. I talked to him last nite about running with DS & I. He's not sure that he wants to try it.

Good Sunday everyone. I messed up a little too, but I'm more frustrated than anything. We had company, confusion, messed up plans. Some went out to dinner, some just didn't eat. That was me. I went for my 6 mile walk late at night. Got home and decided to eat because I'm planning on fasting all day today. I cooked up a big three ingredient omelet. Eggs, bacon, cheddar. I cooked six pieces of thick bacon and ate all of them. :)

I woke with the same headache I used to get eating lots of sugar. I can't believe the small amount of sugar in cured bacon would do this, but it did. I need to just part ways with all sugar. They used to call it sugar diabetes. A crowd of friends and family headed out for the lake this morning, I was planning to go but I just stayed here with my headache that just didn't want to face the road and bright morning light. Tested my blood sugar-- 114. Highest in a month. From bacon. Ugh. Guess I have to step up and get the more expensive/primal uncured stuff.

Tyma, with no persuading at all, I am noticing a dietary shift in those around me too. I love it. Dd is off of bread with the exception of getting an occasional Subway with her friends -- less than once a week. My mom has started taking primal ideas to heart, given up bread, but still needs her biscotti with morning coffee.

Nan, the siren call was loud and clear for a month. The first two weeks were much like quitting cigarettes. I fed the withdrawal symptoms with nuts. I cannot say when the cravings turned to distaste exactly, but it happened sometime this month. So I went from feeling tortured cold turkey for a month, to just missing them occasionally for a month, to finally losing interest in the grains.

Good morning!
Welcome Nan!

I went for a walk during my lunch yesterday. I'm not sure what felt better ... just getting out of the building for a half hour or the praise I got from a visitor who saw me.

Absolutely primal food yesterday, with the addition of a protein shake and a glass of wine at bedtime.

Good morning guys and gals  and :welcome: Nan :D ...

Nan, glad you're getting rid of that processed stuff :barf: ... It's really so nasty...

I was not very Primal on Saturday AND Sunday :faint: and this morning the scale rewarded me with 4.5 lbs of bloat... :frypan: :kickbutt: back to the ole grind today again ...

Some running this afternoon and weight training tonight... if the weather clears maybe I can convince DD to do some rollerblading too... Sort of a triathlon sort of day

I am on vacation as of today :carrot: we were supposed to go zip lining this morning but it was pouring rain, we will go tomorrow, the weather is showing some sun :sunny:

I felt guilty yesterday day cuz DH made (homemade) pizza for lunch & invited the neighbors overs. When I cut the pizza I made sure to cut them with smaller slices. I ate 3 slices (3 different pizzas) I also made sure to eat fruit. After eating the pizza & feeling guilty for eating it I made sure to eat good the rest of the day. I also went for a run to help make up for it. I was very proud of myself it was the 1st time I ran a whole mile. I ran it without stopping to walk. I did not warm up long enough cuz when we started I told DS that I could feel it in my groin area. After we got running a little farther I did not feel it & did not feel it stretching afterwards but I sure did a few hours later. The hot tub did wonders for it last nite. I hardly feel this morning but can still tell it is pulled.

I've been doing pretty well the last three days, and I created a new "count-down" line chart to track my daily loss until Aug 10 when I'm leaving for a wedding.

I've plugged in a daily weight for each day that -- if I can follow it -- will result in me being 199 by the time I leave. I know 7 pounds doesn't seem like much, but I've been sitting at this weight for almost 2 months so losing 7 pounds would be a dream for me, especially since it would put me in Onederland.

I'm going to use this wedding (not mine!) as a little extra push to get to this landmark weight which I haven't been for 20 years (actually, I haven't been at my current weight, 206, for 20 years, so woot-woot for that.)

srmb60 07-19-2010 10:53 PM

Woot woot indeed!

I'm having trouble sleeping ... sigh ... so it's me and merlot at the computer.

DH and I went for an hour long walk tonight. It was very nice. I should be sleepy.

CJ I'm excited for you!

Hi Nan! Welcome to the thread:D

Susan, I miss wine when I'm in the two week window. I am trying to get preggers and when it's a maybe, I abstain. If my cycle starts, well, no baby, but there is always wine!

Ilene it was raining here for us, too. What are your vacation plans?

tymaboy, I love that you're getting out there and running. I want to do that. Shin splints plagued me, but I hope at a lower weight I can join you and Ilene in your running efforts.

BibBob, hi! So your bad day is walking six miles and eating some bacon? I think I;m doing this all wrong! I eat bacon lots. I don't get headaches from it though. I hear that the nitrites can do it. So it could be either, yeah? There is so little sugar in cured bacon. (and even if it's "nitrite free", it still has nitrites because they use celery powder which converts naturally from nitrates to nitrites).

Bacon :D

Today for me was a big eating day

breakfast - skipped. wasn;t hungry.

snack - 2 slices of cheese and 8 slices bacon (bad bad bad)

late lunch - big hamburger patty with slice of cheese dipped in mustard, most of a dill pickle, stoneyfield yogurt with mango and honey (new flavor and the first time i picked something ahead of time that had some sugar in it. it had 26 grams of carbs in it)

dinner
romaine lettuce with little of shredded carrots and red cabbage, sliced red bell pepper, purple onion, feta cheese, kalamata olives, fresh squeezed lemon juice and EVOO with salt and pepper

after dinner snack
2 handsful of raw cashews
5 prunes

so at least 2300 calories with good percentages. i;m right before my cycle begins and this is the week i eat. i need to keep it under 2000, though.

Kathy give up dairy? lololol!!

srmb60 07-19-2010 11:10 PM

Sounds delicious Kathy. Did you have any draggy moments? Was your energy good all day?

No big plans but doing lots of day stuff... Today DD and I went shopping near Montreal... Tomorrow Zip lining... Going to a Yoga camp for 2 days, they eat vegan  with lots and lots of carbs... don't know how I'll do that, anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of just eating vegetables bringing some protein drinks, not the greatest but better than carb overloading... Then we're going away in August with another couple not sure where we're going yet  ... Just stuff like that...

tymaboy 07-19-2010 11:12 PM

I was feeling better today so DS & I went out for another ran. I am waiting to measure myself till the end of the month. I am so hoping that I see a change.

I have been buying fresh fruit to munch on threw out the day. I found that as long as I have that I I grab a bite here & there during the morning & do not make breakfast. With the daycare it is hard to eat breakfast some mornings. Sometimes I am hungry sometimes not. On the days I'm not I dont worry about eating till lunch or I grab some fruit till it is lunch time. I am assuming that this is ok to do or am I hurting myself by doing this?

No draggy moments. I think I just need a bit more carbs to keep me good. 60-120 a day is what I'm shooting for. I'm happy as long as my body is happy. :D

Coconut milk! I would bring that with me, and beef jerky if they don't mind you eating it. Other than the vegan thing, it sounds lie a really cool experience.

My husband went on a ten day intensive meditation retreat and he came back a different person. Better. Happier. And was able to keep up an hour a day for a while.

srmb60 07-20-2010 05:13 AM

Good morning!

I'm already cooking bacon. I was draggin' yesterday so I'm going to try "front end loading" LOL!

wildviolets 07-20-2010 06:17 AM

Ilene and Kathy: Oh the yoga and meditation retreats sound very cool!

Tymaboy: I'm so happy about your running....and jealous too (but in a good way). It seems like people lose a lot of weight when they run. I just think it looks so free-ing for some reason. Maybe some day I'll start running again.

Kathy: Last year I gave up coffee, sweetners, caffeine, dairy and some wheat. Now I eat them all except the wheat. I do love my dairy....esp cheese. I probably should cut it out too. It seems everything tastes better with cheese??? ;)

Do you guys have a problem with eating and stress? I'm sure most people do but I seem to always be a little stressed and the only way I feel better is if I eat. Part of the problem is that I am toooo sensitive about things and worry about every little thing. I get on my own nerves. ;)

Oh well it's a new day. Have a good one everyone.
