Default No to Boris!!!

Struggling here in London on Monday, Bank HOliday -- and
NO ,FAY -- I DID NOT VOTE FOR BORIS!!! In fact, I felt as bad as if the whole of New York City had voted for Bush!!! I mean how could that have happened?!?!
I don't have my British citizenship yet ( don't really like the idea of being 'subject' to the Crown), so I can't vote...but I am going to sort that out... I felt gutted by it. And he is also going to try and put a stop to industrial action by the transport unions..... doesn't even bear thinking about.

I am feeling rather miserable becaUSE i ate a carton on vanilla ice cream today! I was working on my talk, and feeling discouraged, and i just walked, like a robot, over to the corner shop, and bought the carton and came home and ate in -- slowly -- but ate the whole thing nonetheless.

SO I am turning over a new leaf for the week.....

oy. Ruby

Week 10 of being laid off and I am EATING MY WAY until the Election tomorrow -- arrrgh - so hard to Post when so OffPlan, ya know?

Just caught up with the Chat - WTH is everyone? Not thatI haven't enjoyed those of you Posting - but part of my endless excuses for staying away was that I never would be able to catch up.

Polls open 4:30am tomorrow and run for 24 hours - we're making signs today & going to set up a screen house outside the Union Hall . . . try to stop by & vote for me, eh Lolitas!

Talk when all this turmoil is over gals!

I'm here I'm here!!!! Yippy skippy. It is a fab day. I'm relieved that the big cheese is back from another vacation (yes...he did take one in March and again in April). We had cinco de mayo potluck at the office today and everyone brought yumminess to share. I had lettuce with taco meat, sour cream, a sprinkling of avacado and tomato. Felt virtuous. All the tortillay goodness was calling my name though. "HELLLOOOOO....OH SCALMIE...COME EAT ME. I'M A WARM, BUTTERY FLOUR TORTILLA...". I even kept up with my water today. Everyone hates me right now because when the big cheese was gone I refused to stock the fridges with sodas. GMAB. For the seven years that I have worked here the company has stocked the two fridgies with coke, diet coke, 7up, orange drinks, rootbeer, flavored water, bottled water, iced tea and it is free for the employees. Along with free coffee, tea, creamer and quite often massive amounts of snack food. I got sick of seeing people walk out of there with a sixpack at a time so I asked the operations folks to skip the purchase for a couple of weeks. Guess what? The world didn't end. In fact, I think people got used to bringing or buying their own drinks pretty quick.

Auddie: Good luck on the election! I want that darn strike to end now. All the staying at home fun has been sucked out of it for you by now.

Ruby: Tomorrow is another day love. Onward and hopefully downward!

O.k. That's all I've got to report. Someone is sniveling outside my office looking woefully through the window like one of those hideous paintings of children with huge eyes. Gotta run.

Long day but it's over now. I was slow to get out of bed today and late to work although no one really pays attention to that here as long as I get all my work done on time. Had a staff meeting because some of the nurses are unhappy with my unit which has apparently become a very different place since I arrived but I was told by administration that is what they wanted. Well apparently what administration wanted and what the nurses wanted wasn't the same thing and I was stuck in the middle and we all had to get on the same page. We seem to be getting referrals from new sources in the community so apparently word is getting out that we are doing something good.

I did good with food. Took my lunch to work which is good because they served pizza at the staff meeting and I might have been tempted otherwise.

My scale is actually up a pound today but I didn't change my ticker because I'm pretty sure it is water. I was 220 yesterday. If it sticks around another day, I'll change the ticker. I measured myself today and I've lost a lot of inches so apparently something is happening even if my scale doesn't seem to want to move.

Vet has decided to go ahead and treat Tammy for inflammatory bowel disease. We started prednisone tonight and she will be on it for months! I hate prednisone! However, she will gain weight-not necessarily the kind we want.

hello, I guess I was so tired yesterday I posted to last week's thread. Oops. I think it was about being off plan a little (or a lot) this past weekend, so I'll leave it back there in last week and move on. Today I have to leave work early to go to DD16's track meet. It's the conference meet which means track season is about over and I forgot to go to any of the meets. Oops. so as punishment I must drive an hour and a half to conference and see her run one race which will take about 4 mins. Go figure.
Aud, I know you'll win! I know your voters love you. Can I have a Bud lite if you win?
SCalmie, I used to work with a women who did the ordering for the office. When it was time to buy school supplies, she'd order a crate of pencils and bring half of them home. She's been gone for three years and we still have tons of pencils. Isn't it amazing what people believe they're entitled too?
Ruby, Step Away From the Ice Cream. And move on. Start over until it takes, right?
Well, need to get some work done. DH will be here to go to the track meet with me and tempt me to eat stuff I shouldn't.

Hello, I'm back in the "Try Try Again" mode. We got about half way to the track meet yesterday (forty mins down the highway) when DD called and said she would run until after 6 - giving us over three hours to kill. If I had been by myself, I would have gone directly to the track with my paperback and my umbrella, but DH wasn't going to spend three hours at some strange high school track, so we went to TGI Fridays and I drank a couple of Bud Lite's in honor of Aud. Really, at the time it seemed like one of those opportunities that you can't waste. You know, playing hooky in the middle of a stressful couple of weeks. Had to do it! I ate on plan - we spilt some grilled shrimp and then took DD out for dinner and I had pork and a salad, but can't really justify the beers. Oops.
I have a quick work vent if you guys will let me. Have you ever worked for a company that seems to go out of it's way to make sure you know you're not important or valuable? I swear, they do that on a daily basis here and the truth is, I think if ever did find another job (and believe me, I'm looking) they would realize how much they need me. I don't think they would ever tell me that. I don't believe I have any leverage what so ever. But when I'm gone, they'll be screwed. I just wish I could find another job. Unfortunately, I've always worked in the same industry and I have few qualifications for anything else. But I'm going to keep looking!!! Thanks, I feel a little better. Now I need to get back to work.

Awwww Lynnie: Sorry that work is the suckage right now. My boss tries really hard to let me know how much he appreciates me but I've never been lucky enough to have that before...ever. Maybe its why I'm so loyal to him in a sucky industry. There are times when he is gruff and nasty but at least we can both yell at each other and get over it. I'm so sorry you are not feeling the love. Isn't it awful that we spend so much time worrying about work (probably because we spend a majority of our lives doing it)? Then we spend the rest of our time worrying about family and friends and the awful things in life that we can't change. I hope you are able to change soon! An awful corporate culture is very difficult to overcome.

Auddie: Finger crossage. If I liked beer I would hoist one. I'm hoisting a chardonnay instead. Actually, it isn't that I don't like beer...for some reason I can only handle a few sips when its ice cold. After that I pass it off to DH.

Petra: Sounds like you are bringing a much needed breath of fresh air to your unit. That is how I would look at it. Proof is in the pudding if referrals are up.

SB: WHOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!GOOD FOR YOU GIRLY GIRL!

Nau: Sometimes technology sucks. The only way I know how to fix a problem is to keep turning the computer on and off, while praying to the technogods. Of course that rarely works. We had the geeks on the run squad take our home unit the other day since it froze up and they removed over 1000 viruses off if it including a trojan virus (not the condom kind). That was followed by a problem with this laptop which also needed to be addressed by a professional.

LOVE TO ALL - I'M SENDING YOU ALL SOME GROOVY MOJO!!!!

Attagirl! Yes, I agree about the George Bush thing - in fact imho he's basically what you'd end up with if George Bush and Lucius Malfoy got together for a night of hot (and magical) monkey sex and produced a son and heir. He's like a jolly blond Death Eater.

Hope everyone's having a good week? I'm frustrated to death that my scale still hasn't moved, but I'm also menstruating & hoping that once my period's over I will see some movement on the scale. Also, I went to the gym yesterday & feel very virtuous. New regime is in the offing, I swear.

Last night, though, I didn't eat dinner - it was hella hectic, and when I got home at 10pm it was too damn late - and today, although I had a massive steak-and-fried-egg-and-lettuce breakfast all I got for lunch was a packet of sunflower seeds (and half an hour of weeping in the ladies' loos, after a meeting with my boss - long story short, it's all fine, really. But I'm too bloody thin skinned and emotional). My eyes still hurt and I look very much like I've been crying, which is a bit tricky when you've got 21 curious six year olds looking at you suspiciously, but I think I managed to bluff my way through, more or less.

The guy I fancy? Still fanciable. Damn him. Ditto the lass.

Okay, right - gotta dash, but just wanted to swing by and say hi to you good people.
