Ideas for coping with Vacation eating/drinking?
With vacation season just around the corner, many of us will be faced with the infamous "Vacation" diet (i.e., equipped with Bahama Mamas, etc.). How do you deal with your diet on vacations?:?:

I try not to worry too much, but if I want dessert, get one with 4 forks. Stick with broiled seafood and keep track of liquid calories!

Plan ahead. We're going to the Cooks in a couple months and I'll be bringing along a supply of foods so that I'm prepared (not only is food very expensive there - I'm not sure what will be available). Kipper snacks, tuna, probably a few Atkins bars, nuts. I find if I think and plan ahead a bit, it makes it much easier to make good decisions.

Unfortunately, the vacations we have planned for this summer will involve cooking! No crusies with big buffets in my immediate future. So I'll eat pretty much what I eat at home. I will probably have more snacks, cheese sticks and beef jerky mostly.
Drinking is an issue for me. I know the healthy thing would be to just not drink any alcohol, but then it wouldn't be vacation! I'll try to compromise with healthy mixers or maybe a little low carb beer (Michelob Ultra). I'd be happy if I could maintain on vacation. I don't expect to lose. I will exercise, probably a little more than usual since our recreation tends to be hiking and biking and swimming (in the summer). |
This is something I've been thinking about in the last few weeks.
I have a lot of holidays coming up in the next few months - I'm out of town for at least a few days every month from now until July. Most of these trips will be to see my (long distance) boyfriend, and that presents an issue because he insists on eating out EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Sometimes multiple times in one day. He's not overweight, and comes from a family where they consider it normal to eat out this much (no one in his family cooks). Some of the places they choose to go simply have zero healthy options, and most are locally owned and have no nutrition information available. I'm really afraid of going and coming back to find I've gained 15 lbs worth of water weight and fat from all the salty restaurant/fast food, but I'm not sure how to avoid it besides ordering a garden salad everywhere we go. And I'm on vacation, it's hard to limit myself to bowls of lettuce for two meals a day because that's all I can count on being less than 1000 calories per meal. Sorry I didn't have any suggestions to add on how to deal with it, but this is something I have struggled with and will likely continue to struggle with :(:(:( |
Hello Katheryn and Welcome to 3FC's!!! My biggest problem while on vacation is "A-L-C-O-H-O-L"!!! I wish food were the biggest problem! Anyways...I too had a hubby that came from a family who "NEVER COOKED". Eating out was very common. I would make a habit of ordering foods that were not on the menu (create my own...used to p*ss my hubby off..but oh well), for instance if they offered brocolli/veggies as a side dish to a main entre...I would request extra meat, extra veggies, no potato! You can always get them to whip you up something "carb friendly" and "off menu". Most people don't know this...cuz they will never ask. Hope that gives you some suggestions you never thought about.
Now...somebody help me with the "booze" in "booze cruise"...pleazzzze! Joyce |
