Default Crap!

So this is day 4 of Induction (again) and my ketosis strip was begin to change yesterday. Well last night I had ribs with BBQ suace. I even went to the store to find the lowest carb count in the BBQ suace. Well today my strip was back to the very first level. Darn it!

At least it is turning color for you. You know the strip can change quite a bit throughout the day. Look at it this way, you know that BBQ sauce might tip you towards a stall. I think you are doing great!

If its any consolation, I have never relied on those strips....there are way too many factors that can cause false readings....such as the amount of water you drink, the amount of fat you eat etc. I lost over 100 lbs and those strips never even turned light pink for me! Don't let it discourage you....stay on the low carb wagon! You CAN do this!!!

BBQ sauce is pretty evil, IMO. Unless you make your own, there are very VERY few out there that have little or no sugar (I can't find ANY at any stores near me). Kraft makes one that I have heard Walmart carries sometimes (called Carb Well--uses Splenda), and Walden Farms makes a 0 calorie, 0 carb one that I have only ever seen online (haven't ordered it to try it). Other than that, most store-bought bbq sauces will have some sort of sugar (sugar, high fructose corn syrup, brown sugar, etc.) within the first 3-4 ingredients. I gave up and started making my own with Splenda.

That's so funny that you all are here talking about those strips, I just got back from buying some at the stores. I just did one and the color was between the first and second shade of pink. I was wondering if that is a good result or if it's better to get a darker shade.

Ketosis is not a requirement for success on low carb. I think those strips just help some people psychologically know they are on the right track.

It's posted in the South Beach recipes section:

I've also made it adding in some sugar free "maple" syrup, and that is good as well (I use Walden Farm SF pancake syrup for no sugar alcohols).

Actually you could be in ketosis and the strip not change color at all. This is because the strips only tests for one type of ketone. When you are in ketosis, your body produces three types of ketone. Therefore, don't be discouraged. Get back on plan and remember you can do this.

Sara - I used to think that the darker the keto strip the more fat I was burning...but now that I've started drinking alot of water (1 gal/day) and working out hard (weights/cardio 6 days/wk)...I still use the strips and they are never more than light pink! However, I'm dropping fat like nobody's biz! One thing I've noticed too...the more water I drink, the lighter the strip...so I definately think that water effects those strips as alot of woman here complain of nausea and feeling like crap while strip is in the dark. I agree with all here when they say that you can totally lose plenty of fat even though the strips are not in the dark shade. As long as you are reading anything on those strips...your doin' good and if your not reading anything at all and you know you're eating clean/exercising...I really wouldn't worry much...something as small as a banana could stop a positive reading, but will definately not make you gain or stop your weight loss. Hope this helps. Joyce
