ALL of the Atkins Advantage bars contain glycerine...which is a sugar alcohol and Atkins Nutritionals deducts it, which is how they calculate those low net carb #'s.

You are correct, the Advantage morning peanut butter crisp bars do contain 8 net carbs..NOT 2 net carbs like they advertise on the front of the label! The caramel variety are also not the 2 or 3 net carbs they claim to be.

JerseyGirl--I have a quick question.

On the list that you wrote earlier it said not Pork Rinds. I always thought that on Atkins this was an allowed food as a snack. Can you please give me your thought on this. Thanks

That is the list of foods for South Beach...not for Atkins

While many people do eat them on Atkins, be aware they contain a lot of sodium which may cause water retention. Some brands also contain trans fat....stay far away from those!!

For a moment I was hopeful. I saw that list and said I can have pork rinds on South Beach. Then I noticed it was on the list of things to avoid. Darn it, so close to a salty snack.

Neko - maybe the southbeach may not be for you. Have you tried Atkins? That's the one reason I could never stick with southbeach....all the fat free items (tasteless and loaded with sugar), and the whole low fat thing of the diet...Heck!, I love FAT! FAT is good!...and taste great too! If you can stand leaving out the bread, wraps, pastas, rice, potato, and fruits for at least two weeks...then you may do better on Atkins.

Although, I have stalled on the scale, I can tell you that I do see a dramatic difference in the way my clothes fit and what I see in the mirror. And...my boyfriend can see and feel the difference!

Hi Neko,

I tend to agree with Joyce on this....South Beach seems more restrictive to me than Atkins.

Do yourself a favor and read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution & Gary Taubes Good Calories, Bad Calories. Fat isn't the enemy. Refined carbs are the enemy.

My problem with pork rinds is the absolute lack of self control I feel with them. I could just eat them and eat them. Total trigger food, I think they remind me of chips or something, cheetos maybe. I only have them very rarely because of that and in small bags!

Actually, I've been pretty good...no soda (yeah!), lots more water and tea...tea...and more tea...(with lemon and splenda, of course), but hey...a girl's gotta have something. 20 min on the eliptical...and I shooting for 4 days this week. Best I could hope for since my 21 yr old daughter is completely stressing me out!!! Did I also mention...I'm a grandmother of 2 little darlings. They keep me smiling though, but there mother...drives me absolutely nuts!!! I think I lost 5lbs tonight arguing with her!!!

HOLY CRAP, WOMAN!!!! HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY HAVE A 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER? LET ALONE GRANDDAUGHTERS???

expires from shock

...

...

...Hi, this is Fay's cat. She seems to have fainted away, muttering something about 'impossible levels of hotness' and 'surely not old enough to have adult children.' Huh. Not sure what all that was about, but I sure hope someone will be able to get in and open my catfood for me, if the shock has actually killed her. Honestly, you just can't get the staff...

Fay, you are HYSTERICAL, woman!!

I did a goofy thing last night...I am on Day 10 of Induction and something possessed me to eat a sugar free fudgepop with 2 T peanut butter! No wonder the scale was up a pound this morning!!

Awwwwh....thanks Faye! But yes, its true...I have a 21yr old soon to be 22 and a 2yr old granddaughter and 3yr old grandson. At first, I was like..."damn...I am way to young to be a grandma!...How could she do this to me!" But now I see how life works...She was so wrotten to me growing up...that she had to give me 2 little second chances!! smile. By the way...I'm 40...I'll be 41 in April. I get that alot...people think we are sisters. But inside I feel 120!

Well, back to my weight loss efforts. As I last mentioned "mother nature" has finally paid her visit to me. I cheated this morning...as I always feel so skinny first thing in the a.m., and got on the scale...it's only day two of my cycle and I'm back down to 177lbs! So I figure that my temporary weight gain was definately PMS water weight..By end of week, I am aniticpating a few more pounds lost.

As far as my appetite...it's in the toilet. No cravings anymore (I think the chocolate obsession was again attributed to the PMS), no real desire for food. I been cramping up a storm, but pushed through yesterday with a 20 min. walk outside up hills, down hills...it felt great! I'm going to do 20 min. on elipticle in a minute here. I think I'm starting to dig this working out thing!

Mentally, I'm a wreck...I just had to fire my daughter two days ago...because she has become a little Judas and used my company name is get credit for her personally! I nearly had a stroke! But, I guess, she just has got to hit rock bottom before she appreciates me. Oh...did I mention...this came after I took her on a Royal Carribbean Cruise (all expense paid), paid her rent for 6 months and paid her bills to the sum of $2K. For the life of me...$@*%^%)(!

This site is helpful to me....thanks for reading my rant! Joyce

Good for you Bambi! I'm in the same leaky boat right now if you check my posts on the weekly chat. I don't do diet soda or monkey with my total carbs but I was fighting the cut and toss of some of the few remaining pleasures I have left. Mainly a morning cup of coffee and the cream I was putting in it. So, I had to tell myself "Take those out and then see what happens". Or, if I may quote Broadabroad, "Quit arsing around". Prior to January 3rd, when I started, I had around 6-10 cups of coffee a day (with sugar free coffee mate in the am and then black coffee after 9:00 in the morning). On January 3rd I switched to one cup a day. Cutting out caffine is huge for me and I thought the sacrifice to one cup a day in the morning would do it for me but something is not working for me and all I can figure is that the coffee must be it. NOT HAVING IT...IS KILLING ME....and it is only the first day of having a single cup of decaf instead of the single cup of caffinated. Gotta give it a shot though. I'd rather find out if I can pull out of the stall in the next few days as opposed to waiting weeks and weeks.

You can do it!

Default Stayincalm...i glad to see you've made some sacrifices...

I for one know your pain!!! I used to drink coffee all day long! However, I have a question for you. You started Atkins Jan 3rd and you've lost 12lbs so far...right???? Well then..YEAH!!!! Sounds like you are doing great so far!!! Also, you haven't mentioned exercise...remember, that is very important. If you go for a 20 min. walk 3-5 times a week, you will see the difference! Also, you wont have to worry so much about that cream in your coffee which, by the way, is okay (half n half) in moderation. Also don't forget that for about 1 week every month, us woman will hold water (that "special time of the month"). You really don't sound like you are stalling. When I thought I was stalling it was just water weight the week before my cycle (alright...period...I said it!) I actually gained 2-3 lbs up but now, as I am in my 3rd day, the scale has gone back down 4 lbs.

Remember, this is a "lifestyle" change. We will be eating and exercising like this for the rest of our lives! Trust me...as long as your generally staying away from the refined carbs, and sugars, increasing your daily movement and cutting down on the caffeine...you'll be alright. Don't be so hard on yourself...because you want to stay in this race..it's a race for our lives, so remember, no one can live the rest of their lives (happy, that is) denying themselves of everything they love...find a happy medium...and think of it this way "i'll have cream in my coffee...at least i'm not having that damn bagel"... Keep up the good work and don't forget to congratulate yourself for every little gain you make...whether on the scale or in the mirror! Joyce

Faye - speaking of "impossible levels of hotness"...how r u doin??? How are those pills working out for you??? I'm telling you those vinegar, vit b-6, lethicin pills I'm taking have really worked...almost completely killing my appetite and their only $1 from dollar tree under the label "weight loss"...I know...I know...how generic and corny, but they work!! Any horrific workout stories to tell...we miss you...holla back! You have such a fantastic sense of humor...but we haven't heard about how's your day to day in this battle...do tell???? Joyce
