  • When fitday won't accept something because it says the calories don't add up, I usually change the numbers slightly. Often by just raising the protein, carbs, and/or fat by just a few tenths of a point (3.2 grams instead of 3 grams) it will accept it. I heard somewhere here that when products are labeled, if the decimal points are between .0 and .5 the companies can round down, so it makes it seem like there are fewer grams of the fat/carbs/protein. That's probably why calculations aren't accepted straight off the bag sometimes on fitday -- things on the bag are underestimates.
  • TARA...Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of purchasing the PC version, but I think if we end up getting a new computer in a few months, I don't know if I would still have the dowloaded PC version for my new computer too, so I shall see.
  • I'm a big fan of free ... so I just use the online version. I like that I can hook up anywhere. I record my food at work even .... and .... the free one can be linked here!

DITTO.....if you use more than one computer (like work and home) the free version is the way to go.
  • Quote: Does anyone here use the Fitday PC version as to just using the free online version? If so, what do you like about it, and also, did you use the downloaded version only, or pay a little extra to also have the CD that they mail to you? I'm thinking of getting the PC version, but wanted to hear what others have experienced with it first, thank you!
I bought the download a couple years ago and love it, but now I have no online journal to share.

I would have to go back and look at the site to remember what is different
  • OK, I looked at the online one again. It is definitely faster to enter foods in the download version, especially custom foods I think.

--and whoops their site isnt loading right now or is loading very slowly. I like that I am not dependent on internet connection and since I work from home, I only am on one computer.

Well anyway - I cant remember - for custom food recipes, can you enter recipes and have it calculate or do you have to calculate manually and then enter? The download you can enter recipes and it is less difficult about finding custom foods. If I enter the recipe for my homemade chicken soup, then to enter it I only have to type "hom" and my soup is at the top of the list.

Also someone asked about how many calories versus what it tells you - I always have to enter my activity level as "bed bound" to come close to matching how much it SAYS I should be losing to what I do lose. Then I manually enter significant exercise. Guess my metabolism is just low
  • ok finally was able to get back on fitday...yeah the recipe entering is the biggie. For that, for me it is totally worth it. I remember on the old one going to a different day, entering all the ingredients, getting the nutritional info for the total and then creating the custom food. Now it is just right there
  • Ditto to ennay. For me the Fitday PC is far worth it for the ease of entering custom foods alone. I probably have about 300 custom foods, and I can change the ingredients list in any recipe that I make in just a matter of seconds. I love that part.

I actually do use it on two computers. I either email the user file to myself or put it on my flash drive. It's simple to use on more than one computer, although maybe not as simple as the web based version.
  • ENNAY & TAMMY...I really appreciate all of your help! I only have my home computer and I don't work, so I would only need everything just on the home computer. I don't understand what you mean by "flash drive" that you download it to? Also, when I purchase it and download it, where does it actually go to on my computer? I'm sorry, but I'm horrible with computer stuff and I'm afraid I will purchase it and then it won't upload right to my computer. Thank you again for all your help!
  • You can choose the location on your hard drive that you want to download to, but you may just want to choose to download it to your desktop so that it's easy to find. Once the executable file downloads just click the icon on the desktop to start installing it. It's very easy.

Don't worry about the flash drive. It's not something you have to have or use, I just use it so I can use my fitday file on more than one computer. It's just a portable drive, similar to a floppy drive or CD.

The downside is that you can't make Fitday PC public, and if you've already done things on web-based fitday, you can't import them into fitday PC.
