Hi everyone,
I hope you are all going well with your respective plans.
I am new and plan on starting tomorrow basing my calorie count of approximately 1600 on an article I saw a couple of years ago online.
I hope to lose about 64 kilo's in 9 months using this system, plus the help of exercise. I know that seems alot, but mathematically it seems possible. I am hoping also that by varying my exercise on a regular basis, I won't bore my body into a plateau.
Good luck to you all, and I look forward to sharing the highs and lows of this journey with you all.
Hi Snowflake and welcome! Glad you have joined us!
Being an American I had to convert kilos to pounds. But that is about 140 pounds in nine months or about 18 pounds a month. I wish you well but would advise caution in trying to lose this fast. I don't want to be discouraging, but losing that quickly could endanger your health.
Hope you will feel free to jump right in here anywhere... it's a friendly place!
You would have to lose about 1,7kgs a week - can be done. I am trying to lose just about that much myself. I am not giving myself a target date as such - as long as I am making progress I am happy .
Welcome Snowflake and I wish you the best of luck with it. All I can say is, very often even if you are very good on the eating and getting your exericse in, you will still find times when you run into plateaus, and the weight never quite "peels" off like it should mathematically. However, as soon as you start losing weight you will feel much better than you did before and I think the high from that is enough to keep us going even when we aren't hitting our goals exactly when we want to. Hope it goes well, post here/read here often and hope to see you around!
Welcome, Snowflake! It sounds like you've thought a lot about what to do. Keep reading here as it's a great source of information!
I had a shock when I first looked at your stats, until I realized that you are dealing in kg not pounds! I'm a silly American!
You've seen some concern from others about setting a deadline for your weightloss. I would add to that concern. Sometimes setting deadlines can backfire if we link success to the number on the scale rather than to our behaviors. If you don't lose weight that quickly, are you going to think you've failed? Even if you're losing 1-2 pounds/week?
140 pounds in 9 months is quite fast. People who weigh less burn fewer calories for everything they do, so typically, we see that as you lose weight your loss will slow!
Are you in a rush? This is a long long haul, and you can use the time it takes to get to goal to learn how to maintain your new habits. After all, the ultimate goal is to figure out how to keep the weight OFF, not only to lose it.
I hope you don't think I'm attacking you -- I'm not trying to. It's just that we see a lot of people come on these boards with big plans and then give up when they don't meet their goals...
Hi Misti, Philosopher, Miles and Wyllen,
Thank you all so much for you replies and very concerned / considerate advice; I certainly appreciate it!
I guess I should put you all at ease and say that I don't mind if it takes longer; I am just curious to see how effective this theory is. Working on the theory, I should be able to lose the weight in 9 months; however, it doesn,t allow for the muscle you gain from exercise, that I am aware of, which would slow weight loss on the scales, but would in turn tone you, which makes you look better regardless. Whether it takes 9 months or 9 years is immaterial really, so long as I gradually look and feel better.
Philosopher, I see you are a newbie like me; I hope you have a great weight loss journey.
Congratulations to you all on your respective weight losses, and I hope you are all feeling / seeing the benifits.
We can win this battle, and ultimately the war. Good luck, everyone.
Hi Snowflake, I am also one for calculating and figuring. Some of us have minds that work like this. That's one of the reasons I enjoy this web site with its challenges and charts and all. Good luck!
celery -- I also love graphs and charts and reports. It's one of the reasons I chose nutridiary to log my food. All kinds of cool reports! Iknow, I'm a geek!
