Women of Color Calorie Counters
Hi I want to start a thread for women of color.Thats means everybody!!!! This is to support each other through a long journey of weight loss and keeping it off.So we can be there for our children, grandchildren, and live longer.
My name is Dee and I have been trying to control my weight since I was 12.So its been almost 15 years trying to keep it off.My short goal is to get under 200 lbs. |
Hi Dee! Great idea. My name is Cassie, and I am 22 years old, and the mother of 2 gorgeous children.
I don't write down everything I eat, but I do keep a general idea of how many calories I am getting; I try to stay between 1400~1600...but it's more like 1800. LOL! It's working though!:D |
Welcome
Welcome Cassie
Glad you decided to join the thread. I just started calorie counting .How long have you done it? Has it worked for you? |

Ever join a group and then FORGET that you joined it?:o Haha, that's what happened to me...sorry ladies! Dee, to answer your questions, I have been watching my calorie intake since Feb 2nd, 2006. It has worked for me....I have lost 45lbs so far, but it could be more if I wasn't soooo addicted to chocolate.:p I don't have a pic of me on here, but there is a link to my MySpace page in my siggy, and on that page you will find pics of me and my children, and if you look reeeeeeeeeeeally hard, you'll find one of my hubby....I think it's in my slideshow, but if not, he is #1 on my friends list.;) If any of you have MySpace, feel free to add me!:) |
Just checkin in. No reported weight loss yet.I am afraid I have all water weight right now, cause of that monthly thing.I did Tae bo yesterday for 55 minutes but may have gone over 1600 calories.I have to log in Fitday to see where Im at now.
Have a great weekend! |

Cassie- If calorie counting worked for you , Goddess, and Susan.Im going to have to step up and stick with it. I just tried everything as far as dieting and nothing has helped, except weight watchers. |
Oh yeah, calorie counting works--as long as you stay within your range!;) That's something that I tend to have a bit of trouble with.:o
|
I would like to add a helpful hint here for you ladies-that the calorie levels should reflect your current weight, and your current activity level. For instance, a woman of 240 pounds should be eating more calories for weight loss than a woman who is 170...because the larger you are, the more calories your body burns a day doing regular activities.
So, if you are at 2000 calories a day, 1900, 1800, or what have you-and you are seeing a loss of 1/2 to 2 pounds per week, then you are doing the right level for YOU. Don't feel pressured to drop your calories further just because someone else is at 1500 or 1400. Enjoy the higher calorie level now while you can, because after another 20-40 pound loss, most likely you will HAVE to be at the lower level. :D |

I think thats good advice.I think you should drop it down if you are losing 1 to 2 pounds. To check in I have lost anything yet, because of distractions fathers day brunch(even though I did mainly seafood, meat, and veges). So we will see next week. |

Hi, I'm Amber, living in GA now. I'm a little foggy so let me try to get the gist of what you are doing, just counting everything you eat?
I was thinking of giving myself a calorie allowance, say 1600 and I could eat what I wanted so long as I didn't go over that mark. Is that the idea here? |
707 Goddess- What kind of scale are you going to get next?
Amber- Welcome  . What we do here is count our calories and try not to go over that or be at a certain deficit. For an example, according to fitday I am suppose to have 2000 because I weight 204. My goal is to eat or to burn 400 calories from that off to lose weight (so I would be at 1600 calories). I cant really sit here and tell you its this or this amount because It really depends on you and your body. Some people say multiply your goal weight by 10.( Ex. 160 (goal weight) x 10 = 1600 calories). But mainly its all tests and trial to see how much weight you are losing a week.So you may want to start off at 1800 and see how that is for a week or two, and if work stay at that range. If it doesnt lower your calories. My deficit yesterday was 1758 and today is 1002. Well I am taking a Human Nutrition class for my nursing program so I wont have to take it next semester, because care plans and clinical is already stressin me out:dizzy: . So this class just reiterates the important of a balanced diet and the calories needed to sustain weight. I learned the average person needs 2000 calories and above 2000(w/ no activity) is considered too much.I will keep everyone posted on what intresting facts I learn.Man this class and this forum goes hand in hand. |

Now to control my little shoppin bug.I am just so excited that I am 1 size away from my goal size which is 12. |
Hello all. I just found this thread and thought that it would be great to join in. I am attempting to get to Onederland. I am currently at 236. I have been counting calories, which usually wind up somewhere between 1000-1300 per day, give or take a few. I track my meals on another site. I drink about two bottles of water with each meal, in addition to about one or two random bottles at other intervals during the day for a total of about 8.
I look forward to a lively discussion about our successes. I am keeping a blog of my journey. The link is in my signature. I will be opening my photo album within a month & I'll provide the link once I get it up and running. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! |

The more you weigh, the more calories your body uses doing things-if a 130 pound woman and a 230 pound woman walk a mile together, the woman who weighs 100 pounds more burns a lot more calories doing that activity-because she is carrying around 100 extra pounds of resistance. Right now, your current calorie level is that of someone who weighs about 100 pounds less than you do... You don't have to start out at 1000-1300 calories a day at your current weight-it actually may end up making it harder for you to reach your goal weight-because when you get smaller and hit a plateau in your weight loss, you don't have anywhere to drop your calories to get things moving again. I would recommend a level of 1500-1700 for you instead. After you lose a good amount of weight and things slow down for you (1/2 pound a week or less lost) then you can drop your calorie level down around 100 calories at that time AND up your exercise slightly to get things back on track. Also, you don't want to make a regular habit of eating less than 1200 a day. Every now and then it is okay if you are not hungry-things happen-but, it is a low calorie level, and it is hard to reach your basic nutritional requirements at that level on a regular basis. |
Hi everyone, I am new. I am a 19 years old college student. I trying to eat right and get healthy. I need to lose about 50 pounds or so. I weigh 162 pounds. I like the idea of calorie counting and exercise. Denise Austin talked about loosing pounds this way.
A question what should be my calorie range? |
Thanks for the advice, aphil. I am trying to find ways to increase my caloric amounts. However, it is hard for me to squeeze more calories in because the things that I eat are naturally low in calories. By the time I put them into the food journal/calculator, I wind up within that range. I eat lots of fruits and veggies, fish, nuts & protein. After I eat, I am no longer hungry and have to sometimes make myself add a handful of nuts in order to add more calories. I am going to add some chicken and potatoes into the mix today. Hopefully, that will boost me into an adequate range.

Where is everyone? :?: How's the progress going?
|
I wonder too how everyone else is doing here.
Well as far as my progress my weight is coming off now.First I was stuck for 2 months at the same weight. Now my scale is going dow.Im updating my avatar 2 pounds lighter:carrot: |
Hi Everyone,
I have been calorie counting since January 2006. I have lost about 50 pounds since the last time I looked. The scale broke and I will not buy another one until I find a good one on sale. I eat 2,200-2,400 calories a day. I burn about 900 at the gym. I am trying to do more weights to help with sagging skin. I don't want to have that issue. |
Hello everyone!! I am getting started once again and this time i chose calorie counting. I was on ww but i didn't lose much and i was eating to much to get the daily points. I plan to start tomorrow and start writing down everything that i eat. I would jus like to kno what everyone's workout plan is and how often a week do you do it?
