  • Mandalinn, now I see your reasoning of adding the sleeping. It makes sense to do that if you are looking at your caloric expenditure! I just happen to only use it for counting the calories up! lol

Michelle, thanks and yes, I have only done counting calories (and working out of course!) although I did it mostly from 2001- 2002, took a break while having my twins, and then started again 2003 ... with a couple gaps here and there for some life issues that came up. I am back at it though ... it's really the only thing that can keep me stable.

  • KELLY... I have also gone back and forth, and taken breaks, because I first started with LA Weightloss back in Sept. 2004 when I was at my highest weight of 259. I've just gotten back into it in March of this year, but not very serious until recently. You have done SO GOOD!!!

AMANDA... I also belong to that site and it is great, but just VERY SLOW! It takes way too long to enter everything and it gets very frustrating, but I do have a lot of good friends there.

SUSAN... I think with time, Fitday will get easier, just like everything else you work towards, eventually does. Today is the first day I actually started to log EVERYTHING in so we shall see. Thank you again for all of your advice and help!
  • Here's a review of the 6 most used calorie counting sites:

  • Out of curiosity, I calculated how many calories I should be eating to lose 2lbs a day at the daily plate... It said 1115...uhmmmmm ....is that healthy??

Not really, though generally it depends on your current weight, height, gender, etc. I'm losing more than two pounds/week but I'm more than twice your weight and likely taller. My basal rate is around 3500/day. So I eat 2000 calories/day and have a large deficit of 1500. This is boarderline unhealthy, though to make up for it I supplement my diet with many vitamins and extra protein.

Most agencies and doctors will tell you that the safe range of weight loss is one to two pounds/week. But that means that people who have more to lose will be safe losing two pounds/week; people who have less to lose (like yourself) will be safe losing closer to 1 pound/week.

Eating less than 1200 calories/day can lead to serious problems ... essentially you body will revert to sources of calories beyond available fat and carbohydrates ... that means protein and you body's protein is in your muscles. Essentially, eating less than 1200 (or even eating a bit more than that for some people) will result in your body "eating" your muscles for energy. There's one muscle that you really don't want your body eating up as a result of going into starvation mode: your HEART!

At 136 you are on the low end of the "do not have too much weight to lose" spectrum ... that means it's likely much safer for you to be targeting 1 pound/week. If you feel that it is necessary to lose more/week then you must see a doctor. You might be successful in your weight loss at the 1150 calorie level, but you'll be doing damage to your health that is irreparable.

Congratulations on the weight you've already lost though!
  • jbrams: thanks, I never really looked at it like "maybe I should only lose 1..." I've always heard that losing 1-2 pounds per week was an acceptable rate, and like to aim high so chose 2. Thanks for the information and concern
  • Where is HandbagAficionado?
  • I have used FitDay in the past and I think it is OK. After reading the posts from this thread I decided to do a search for online calorie counting sites. I found one that looks interesting to me. The site is called www.***********.com. I was able to register in about 10 mins. and it is very easy to navigate. I like it because it breaks my meals down to 6 small meals. Basically it is simple and that is all I need.
  • Ok...what is going on. In my last post, it will not show the name of the site that I put down. Why is it doing that? Have I done something wrong or illegal.
  • JudyChat, if you look up "Tomatoes, raw" you will see in the drop down what you are looking for.
  • Melissa -- Some sites provide competing services to 3fc so we don't allow links to them. The link was probably removed for that reason.
  • Thanks, but I don't see how. It is basically like FitDay. Oh well. Thanks anyway!
